As someone who no longer has parents, I hope you continue to do this with your dad. My father always wanted to write his memoirs, never got to it, and died with a lot of his stories. We were lucky and got another 10 years of stories from mom. Still a fan, though I'm not a maker, I simply love your work.
Hey Jimmy - love your channel, vid style, and skills - I look forward to having your resources and skills one day - would love it if you checked out some of my vids on my channel!
Awesome video! I love hearing stories from the old timers, your dad reminds me of my old landlord from when i was 10 yrs. old he introduced me and my brother into woodworking. I still cope my trim the way i was taught the way i'll always do it ! now i get to show my 7yr. old how it was done.
Wow, what a treasure to be able to listen to your dad ... I love to hear the old guys hold forth on how they worked. There's gems of wisdom everywhere. Thanks, JD!!
Love the segment with your Dad. Great Memories, my Dad passed some years ago, but he is always with me in the shop. Enjoy your time together, life is good. Thanks for great memories.
Thank you. Brought a tear to my eye Jimmy. Being able to chat with your Dad is a blessing. Make sure you give him a strong hug next time you see him. Seeing him in his K of C shirt reminds me of my Pop when he would wear his. Cheers
What ever happened to Taylor making her own RUclips? I remember you saying that once upon a time ago and I was super excited. Would you let her know, Jimmy? Even if she only gets to post once every few months. It would be such a treat. Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words Brother Jimmy. I had a blast and look forward to doing it again sometime soon in the future. Your generosity and openness to share is the standard Makers should reach for. Thank you!
Sorry to see your dad was injured... still, he's looking pretty good!! Glad you are taking the time to chat with him and get it on "film"... My biggest regret after my father and my grand-father passed was not having any recordings of them... Good job jimmy, love your stuff... Keep it up!!! Thanx...
There is something about listening to an older and wiser person.... It's like everything around you stops and you just listen and try to absorb as much as possible. Great Video Jimmy , cherish these moments. See ya in Atlanta ....Thanks Bro
It good to spend time with your father, I miss my father greatly, he's been gone 7 years now. Dads are wise so never just stuff them in a corner! I enjoyed the "Tip of the day!"
Jimmy! Great video. Love hearing from your father. The old timers have so much to teach us. My co-worker just taught me how to cope mitres on Friday. The additional tip he showed me was, once you cope the mitre you wrap a piece of molding in sandpaper and you can smooth out the coping cut you just made. Hope all is well and keep up the great work. Cheers brother, John
Thank you for sharing Jimmy! Being a carpenter by trade and a creator by passion, I love your father's quote on trim, "Make it look like one piece" In the field I always tell my guys, make it look like it grew there.
Jimmy my dad has almost run his race and his time is short. When I got my tablesaw and had it for six years he came and spent a day in the shop with me, in that day I learned more about tablesaws than all the books, TV shows, demonstrations, etc. combined. He was an old from the ground up kind of guy from foundation to shingles and everything between. That to say this - cherish your time with him. Document it for yourself even if you never share it with the rest of us. Your brothers will appreciate it as well. Dad and Mom are the only ones up there with my wife kids.
Absolutely loved this video, you're Dad is amazing. And the connection you share with him is pricele$$. Money can't buy love like that! My sincere thanks
That was a fun video, JimmyDiResta. Tell your pops Rich says HEY! Gonna have to go back and check out your Puerto Rico videos now... Happy #Woodworking and #Metalworking and on and on... :-) #KeepTheChipsFlying!
Man Jimmy that PR music made my heart smile I instantly remember my friends in Chicago and the food they gave me. I love my PR friends and I love their music and food.
I am a BIG fan and I am also a Knight of Columbus, Fireman, craftsman. I could listen to your dad all day! He needs his own Chanel, that's my tip of the day.
This is something I always wanted to do in the 80's, my niece had talked about arranging a radio interview with my parents her Grandparents, but it never happened, big regret, what you are doing will be treasured for ever! Believe me!!!
What a great guy your dad is, I could listen to him tell stories everyday! Certainly understandable why you became such a great guy as the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I think your dad needs his own channel where he just talks. Could listen to him all day! Also: Get that Vegemite on some toast or bread, it is the best!
I lose at least one or two chickens during the winter to hawks, circle of life. The brands are going to be awesome! Listening to the wisdom of our elders never gets old for me, just sit back and listen and absorb. Another great one Jimmy.
Best part...? The two of them talking at 4x speed and the Lawn Guy-lan accent still coming thru. What we saw there was Jimmy still learning at his father's knee. Respect is not earned or learned and certainly not commanded - respect is fostered between two people. I respect you beacuse you respect me because I respect you ... and on it goes
Jimmy, your videos are the best! Always full of inspiration, feel good vibes and useful tips! I absolutely adore the videos with your Dad! What a character! He should have a channel of just interviews of him! How cool would that be? Just the Fire Fighter stories would keep viewers coming back! Thanks Jimmy!
Super Valuable and amazing for future generations, especially the one we are in now. Someday I;m gonna be just like Mr D, and I hope I can share my experiences with my kids. Its great to see people that care. You Honor your father well Jimmy Thank you for sharing with us this video. God Bless.
Jimmy, I'm a carpenter's apprentice. My boss copes everything, just like your dad mentioned. He's taught me to do it that way as well. So let your dad know there are guys out there still doing it the right way!
I am always amazed when I see thumbs down on any makers page. They get the content for free and tips to make their own work easier. There are some pages I don't particularly like the content. I just don't go back. I do however appreciate their attempt to educate us here on RUclips. Thanks for your page Jimmy. I always go away learning something new.
Two reasons to cope the inside corner of moulding. 1) You get a perfect fit if the corner is not perfectly 90 degrees due to the back bevel. 2) It reduces the gap due to seasonal expansion and contraction in half since only the coped board pulls away. The expansion and contraction benefit only applies to solid wood moulding on long runs.
Hi Jimmy, I'm following your channel here from Brazil my city Itajaí, Santa Catarina state !!!! Congratulations on the channel, just post more videos per week rsrsrs
we used to cope every thing because most houses do not have a square corner in them so instead of searching for the angle you cope that way your miter always looks perfect
+jimmy diresta: I just saw you interview with the NYSAIS--NOW and reminded me the how I seem to have problem learning the way the other children learned. I realized now in my old age that it wasn't me having a problem but the teachers. I do not want to blame them because they had 25-30 kinds in the class. But I did study and I think I learned better by schooling myself. I progressed in life but (you did better and happier). I am very glad for your achievements. All adjectives, preposition, and all grammar should be flushed down the school toilets and let the kids be free of fears. In your case like mine the teacher were disadvantaged not you. If the had understanding teacher the kids would learn. It was great to have met you on you tube, you are an inspiration to kids when the school failed for some of them to find a place in life without indecision.
Another reason for coping was that wood movement was less of an issue, as opposed to a mitred cut. Although now days the materials used for moulding don't have nearly as much movement due to humidity/weather
I can listen to you and your father chat all day. what a great guy.
100% agree.
Your dad is amazing. Lots of knowledge there. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of the world!
As someone who no longer has parents, I hope you continue to do this with your dad. My father always wanted to write his memoirs, never got to it, and died with a lot of his stories. Your Dad was a NY FireFighter? ultimate respect! anyone who fights fires has my respect but in NY wow!

I had a rooster for a couple of months. once I had my fill of 5am crowing, I converted into a delicious stew.
Mr D, great seeing the K of C shirt. We all learn from our dads.
Awesome video! I love hearing stories from the old timers, your dad reminds me of my old landlord from when i was 10 yrs. old he introduced me and my brother into woodworking. I still cope my trim the way i was taught the way i'll always do it ! now i get to show my 7yr. old how it was done.

words of wisdom... to have someone who speaks them out is a privilege
Makes me miss my Dad. Good video brother!

Hi Jimmy, I'm following your channel here from Brazil my city Itajaí, Santa Catarina state !!!! Congratulations on the channel, just post more videos per week rsrsrs
The only way to mitre moulding or trims is to cope , works every time , words from a true OG in the trade!
Great Video!
I was also lucky to have a Dad who gave me tips and a lot of other valuable things (ideas) for my life!
Great video Jimmy, and Mr Diresta 👍🏻👊🏻
we used to cope every thing because most houses do not have a square corner in them so instead of searching for the angle you cope that way your miter always looks perfect

Nice to see you chatting with your dad

the doors in PR are incredible and inspiring. yeah and coping is/has become a lost art for sure.
