If you want to come close to doing this effectively, you need a coach and a bjj gym. And you need to practice it for hours.
Very true
By hours, I hope you mean weeks. I've done bjj for a year and this wouldn't be easy for me to do.
@@kaufmanat1 I believe @redrizzla1989 means cumulative hours over a long period of time training only these techniques in order to do them proficiently enough to prevent the slam. That attacker picked up that poor woman quick, she would have had to hit the ankle grab IMMEDIATELY to have a chance.
@@lukehudson9684 I'm 5'8", about 165, definitely stronger than the average Joe, but nothing crazy. Even me goin up against some 6'2" 200 lb dude puts me at a huge disadvantage. Truth be told, for most women, they need to be remarkably skilled fighters to be able to stop a determined attacker, and unfortunately I don't think this gets conveyed enough to people today. I've heard too many women (and men) say, "O, I'd just go crazy in a fight," which, I learned after about 30 seconds of rolling with a skilled fighter, is not really a winning strategy. Turns out months of consistent practice is the only real defence against a strong determined aggressor.
id say more like years people dont understand to get efficient ar something you have to spar as much as you can
You don’t just follow someone 24 miles for a robbery
Exactly
Most people cannot walk 24 miles without their feet bleeding at least non stop

Training is so great
To be able to execute these moves fast enough, one has to practice them and drill them over and over again until it becomes natural instinct
Even then it won't work. You can't perform these unless you _already_ know there is a fight situation. Sport fighters always assume they know they are in this situation ahead of time, but sneak attack takes much more time to process the information. That time exceeds human reaction speed.
Best move is learn how to fall, then get position once you realize you are being attacked.
@@kris3451 All those movements are reactive. If they aren't trained repeatedly they won't happen. Selection sounds nice, but it's actually reaction still. If you wait to consciously select reactive movements it's too late.
Trained is one thing, naive selection is multiples longer than reaction. (Reference "flow states in cognitive performance").
@@kris3451 Which her "body" could only select if she had trained them in the fist place. Movements have to be trained before they can be selected "unconsciously". Which supports the poster's point here.
It's a good way to get yourself killed. These aren't practical in a real life threatening situation.
@@onebylandtwoifbysearunifby5475as a woman who has fought off an attacker when I had next to no training I can tell you that some amount of knowledge is absolutely better than no knowledge of what to do in these situations. Doesn't matter if you can do these things without thinking about it. You are still better off because before you had no chance, now you have a tiny sliver of a chance. And when you're talking something that could be life or death a tiny sliver matters a lot.
Situational awareness is the best weapon against attacks from behind.
Think there was a fumble of words, Rener meant 24 minutes which is still a long time. 24 miles walking 2-4 mph avg walking speed is 6-12 hours.

“Step 1: draw a circle. Step 2: draw the rest”
I see so many people often times doubt these videos. The male instructor in this video is Rener Gracie, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu that practically specializes in self defense Jiu jitsu. His wife in the video is also an accomplished Jiu jitsu athlete, if you are going to take self defense advice from anybody, it is these two ❤️
Correct. Eve is a purple belt and is the head of the Women Empowered program.
She's also a former WWE Diva.
So whats the point? Stupid advice from most inteligent person is still stupid. Women shouldnt fight and give agressor more reasons to hurt you. You give him want he wants and run or just run at first. Probably girl from video has no change against regular fit male so what is your chance?
@@PerkoVVokreP the point is, crappy people that try to rob or hurt someone are looking for easy victims, they aren’t looking for a fight. So a little training (even for females) can learn and do enough to make these crooks scamper off when they’re not easy victims.
There are plenty of self defense videos of women escaping attacks by intelligently defending themselves.
You are correct acknowledging the the size and power differences. If you follow more of the training by the Gracie’s, you’ll find that they also acknowledge these differences and address how to handle that. That’s why there’s training available.
The Gracie’s even acknowledge for men that how to win every fight is to avoid every fight as best you can. But sometimes you can’t avoid it, so some skill can come in pretty handy in those moments.
There are also some tools people can use and train with to offset the power disparities in these cases.
Either way, compliance is sometimes the best option bits it’s not always going to guarantee your safety. Not everyone is ok with just being a victim, some people are self defenders and will fight no matter what.

This is the worst advice. Run!!!! Scream!!! Men and women are built different we are not the same. A high school boy can take on a full grown woman.
@@creamy3803 nope. Not if the woman is trained and the man isn't. And if you knew the first thing about fighting, you'd know that. Now, you should still definitely run and scream if someone is attacking you, but the average woman can definitely fight off the average attacker if she is trained.
End of the day… don’t get bear hugged from behind!! It’s an uphill battle from there. If they are stronger than you and lift you off the ground quick, it’s lights out.
You are my hero bro. I love everything you stand for and everything you're doing.
With all due respect, these techniques do not seem very practical. They all seem to rely on the attacker letting go as he falls to the ground. If anything he will be more likely to continuing grabbing on. Furthermore, ‘breaking a knee’ as the techniques in this video suggest is not nearly as straightforward and easier as it is made to look.
Whilst I appreciate Rener’s efforts to teach techniques that he thinks may help, integrating non-conventional methods of self defence with Jiu Jitsu, such as groin strikes, eye pokes and biting would be far more effective.
And I agree with other comments that emphasis the most important factors: situational awareness and other preventative methods.
Remember to go fast practice slow!!! Slow is fast fast is smooth
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast
Slow by definition is the exact opposite of fast. Not the same.

Never. Ever. Ever. Voluntarily put yourself on the ground.
Its fine to put yourself on the ground if you're already going to get slammed onto the ground. At least you have a chance to get up, unlike if they drop you on your head.
Dude: This is self defense tactics; not an mma cage fight. Do what you’ve got to do in order to break that hold
@Pete G exactly itsnot an mma cage, why would you willing want to be on the ground? I usually agree most of what Rener shows but I don't like this one. But he shows other options which is nice!
People need to understand the difference between MMA and street fighting.
Jiu jitzu is great if you are fighting an unskilled, unarmed person.
It will get you killed if they have a weapon.
Violence and fighting are very different things. You want to get the fuck away from them at all costs and I don't care how big or tough you think you are. There are no rules on the street and violence doesn't give a shit what school you got trained at.
@@Warriormedic68 😂 you’re one of those guys who thinks you can beat a trained fighter in real life because the “streets are different”, you don’t know anything about fighting so keep your opinion to yourself
First of all, people don't attack someone equal or bigger than them.

This is so good!! I love how you can see the person working on the weather get confused when Scara changes it and the details that show New Khaenri’ah is underground
this is spectacular. gotta rehearse this, practice this. thank you.
This plan will fall apart if the attacker is super violent and starts punching or have a knife
I'm pretty sure I passed you in LAX on March 9th. I would have shook your hand but I was going to miss my flight..mabe next time 😂
Very well shown. It’s usually not as simple as doing these moves but still having the general idea of the moves may help if the situation happens and you need to defend yourself or deter the attacker.
The modified tani otoshi at the end was 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Go to the ground in a street fight with an arguably much bigger and stronger attacker? No! That should be the last resort.
You are wrong. If you are much smaller and can't run away, you have much better chance buying time by kicking from the ground.
@@oknevalsI’m 6’6 220 pounds. I never usually meet people bigger than me. I was practicing with a 6’9 280+ pound dude and he took me to the ground. At that moment it was over. He was on top of me and he could have done some serious damage if this was a real fight.
@@manealst7249I'm around 145lbs, been doing bjj for about 6 months, was able to defend myself from a less experienced guy that was around 225.
I wasn't able to submit him, but he wasn't able to submit me either, it was a stall.
There are girls smaller than me that I can't do anything to.
I mean it's crazy how when you practice an art that's all about controlling someone on the ground, you're able to control someone on the ground.
To be clear, I believe this is also true for most combat sports. I would never want to go against even a 130lb experienced female boxer.
@@manealst7249 I'm 180-190lbs. I've been fighting guys in 220-280lbs range in Judo and in Krav and even on street couple of times. Big guys with no Judo && JJ or wrestling background were fairly easy to drop. If they are trained, it is shitshow. They are fairly slow though (with rare exceptions). On the ground, unless they are on top, they lose a lot of advantage and are still slow (unless they are very fit and in great shape.) The size is no doubt advantage especially if the guy is trained but, I've seen some really big guys getting beaten up really bad by much smaller guys. And that was in real fights. I taught my kids to fight me from back targeting my shins, knees and groin. I could commit and prevail especially because I was in good shape and trained but, it was definitely more work than just grabbing them while standing. Most people, especially big guys are not comfortable getting on the ground. Every confrontation is matter of odds. If you can't outrun or prevail, you want to try to buy time and get attention. Screaming and kicking has its merit.
If they've already got you in a rear body lock and are about to slam you you should be using your last resort.
There’s no way the average woman can pull this off in any way shape or form against the average man.
😅😅😅😅😅😅
Right because a lazy fat ass like yourself whose never been in a real fight or trained would know
Well this guy will give you a blue belt if you buy his online bjj course so… Something tells me he just wanted to put out a video for some ez views.

However If you don't practice all these AT LEAST a handful of times with a partner that ain't gonna baby you, you can forget it working real time
Naw bro it gonna happen so fast I’m ded
Plenty of CCTV footage showing that Jiu-Jitsu is incredibly effective.
It happens so fast because your mind can’t process it fast enough. With training your mind would be able to process grapples or strikes faster and things will “slow down”.
Bloop, unfortunately with that negative poor attitude, you're absolutely right. You should start training
....and sadly, you've already decided what will happen to you. Glad I'm not you
Same as what i would be doing. Great teaching!
In wrestling when grabbed from behind sometimes we would just grab around their inner thigh and go for a single leg. Probably more simple than this for the average person.
Don't give people false confidence with nonsense. Years of practice is needed to make these work.
At no point did he say you could watch this video then immediately be able to defend yourself?
If you can't work out that practice is required to be able to pull off a skillful maneuver you've never learnt before, then you're honestly pretty stupid
Most woman won't be able to pull this off. The minute they're on the ground it's over. Train bjj or wrestling to learn how to avoid this.

My ninjutsu mate taught me the first technique, but he explained as this: punch towards the ground to slip the bear hug, it's a lot more efficient than hunkering down which they can then switch position on you, punching down can also throw their centre of gravity off. Because there is a follow up move, doesn't always work, but as your punching down, u can use their forward momentum to actually flip them like a fireman carry/judo flip throw over your shoulder, like I said, doesn't always work, but it is an option that's available as a follow up move to the punching down whilst in a bear grip. ❤ ossu

The first one is questionable. Why should the ideal outcome of your technique be putting yourself on your back? Literally the worst thing you can do in a self defense situation or street fight.
