Mind you, most math rock didn't always sound this pleasant and accessible to the ears as it does nowadays. Around the early 90s, at its inception, the progenitors of math rock were quite abrasive and featured a hell of a lot more post-hardcore influences into the genre, where math rock originated from in the first place. However, around the late 1990s to mid 2000s, artists like Battles, Tera Melos, Foals and Minus the Bear would take the genre into more of a relaxed direction, garnering notes from post-rock, Midwest emo and jazz fusion, thus making way for the third-wave of math rock that continues today with modern bands like CHON, TTNG, American Football and Polyphia spearheading the genre into more mainstream attention, incorporating elements of trap, R&B, pop and even IDM into the mix.

This was one of the beautiful mixes that started my real descent into songwriting. I was writing lyrics to all of these songs by myself, and it was so fun!! I wanna just make covers of these songs with new lyrics because I can't find the old ones!
It's been five years, I have 3 albums on bandcamp, and I graduated with an associates in psych! Thank you. This helped me get out of highschool and into college without feeling fear that i lost my best writing years. I felt I could still be an artist as an adult, which I've now learned is actually how you're supposed to feel.

math rock somehow feels like walking to school on a chilly day in the fall in the early 2000s. i know thats incredibly specific but its like aloe vera for the soul. its like it is just complex enough to absorb all of the complexities in your brain that are driving you crazy, and yet familiar enough to let you breath.
That's quite good.
"aloe vera for the soul"
I love that example. Ive been searching of a way to put those feelings into words
Incredibly specific and damn it fits. I think it was around 2007 when I discovered El Ten Eleven and that became my go-to-chilly-morning-walk-to-school music.

Rock is such a broad term... the term rock doesn't really tell you much about what you're about to listen to other than guitars. I mean, rock is the same word used to describe these bands, as well as other bands from King Crimson all the way to AC DC.
