The VICE Drive is my favorite ball. I'm an aging golfer, but still a mid single digit handicapper. Everything about the Drive is perfect for my game. It is the longest ball I have found for my mid 90s swing speed. I no longer want to stop the ball quickly, finding far more success playing a little less club and allowing it to release (when I'm short sided, I throw it high and deal with the mid length putt--much safer than trying to spin it with slightly less confidence than I once had). And the 50 compression is fantastic for my aging wrists, elbows, and back. For older golfers, and for younger golfers who don't have the practice time to keep spinny shots consistent, I really believe this is the type of ball that would lend the best chance for consistent play. And if you think you're giving up on going really low with this type of ball, I shot my lowest score ever with it (a 4 under 68) and my handicap has not suffered at all.
You are so right! I am like your golf twin. More spin means more side spin which means bigger curves on your shots. I only know a few scratch golfers who benefit from more spin. If you are a 4 handicap or higher, you would benefit from straighter shots. Straighter shots equals lower scores for almost all golfers.
I play the orange/yellow fade, it's so easy to see and looks like a little fire going through the sky. My eyes are going, but I still can hit drives 330 or so when I get a hold of one, so those or the lime green help me to see so much better. Love the Vice Pro Plus!
I would encourage people to choose the ball they like for their wedge, pitch, chip and putt.
Or you can just do what some seniors I saw doing. Play a piece of junk onto the green and then switch balls to putt with.
Good video mate. I currently game the Vice pro soft. Purely because i won a dozen. Love the feel both off the tee and around the green. The most impressive thing i had noticed is how tough the cover is. I have been known to hit the odd tree and bunkers 🤣But after 3 rounds they have been in very good condition.
Once again SAS, the timing of your videos are most interesting. Just found on OfferUp several boxes of "Maxfli HT-100 Balata Liquid Center", $20.00 dozen. They should play well with the MacGregor persimmon woods and Walter Hagen or Ben Hogan irons I'm dragging around the links these days of 70*, no clouds, bright sun.
FYI: Set of Maxfli Red Dot in the crosshairs for next week. Set of Epon personal 2 P2 - $2,000...Yikes!!!
✌ 🙏
I love the vice pro plus I’ve been using them for about the last six dozen and they performed just as well as a pro V1X in my opinion, including track man data to prove it
Look forward to trying these, when i acquire them in my usual way
...finding one in the trees while looking for mine
I gound a Vice ball and tried it. Was surprised ar how well it performed. Will buy some
Great review! This is exactly what I was looking for.
Dare I say that there is a lot of "bull droppings" talked about golf balls. Maybe you could test a Pro V1 (or even a Vice Pro Plus?) against a Srixon Distance? The question to be answered would be "is the Pro V1 £30 a dozen better than a Srixon Distance?", maybe for a pro, or low handicap amateur, yes, but for the average amateur (10+ handicap), they won't notice the difference! Go on, dare you!!!!
And you see high handicappers rocking up with Pro V1’s.
I think balls that spin a lot actually hurt amateur golfers. It exacerbates a slice. They should play a lower spinning, cheaper 2 layer.
I agree 100%. I hit two piece balls just a little straighter than a urethane ball. Ask yourself, are my bad holes because my well struck shot into the green rolled out too far from where it landed, or because the ball maybe spun too far left or right? My bad holes aren’t because my approach shot with a two piece rolled out a few more feet from my ball mark on the green. If the ball goes straighter, most golfers (other than truly scratch or pro golfers) will shoot lower scores with the two piece. Don’t get dickered into more expensive urethane golf balls. Unless you play at a course with totally rock hard greens. I don’t see course like that here in the Northeastern USA.
@@scottdean27 absolutely spot on. I'd also encourage people to keep track of all approach and short game shots for a few rounds. I'd be shocked if those that come up short don't vastly outnumber those that go long. So why the hell are you obsessed with playing a ball that stops faster?
I played with a really bad high handicap golfer a few years back (not a problem by the way) and he had no touch at all, but he played pro v1 and said it was because he felt it gave him more feel around the green! This guy had zero feel around the green and his ball was not the issue. But i realised that if i played with a pro (i'm a 10 hc) they would probably think exactly the same about me! What was i gaining playing a premium ball? So i swapped to srixon distance balls and i have literally seen no change whatsoever in my scoring. I mean nothing. I'd been steady at 10 for a few years, i play the same amount now as i did then and i am still steady at 10. I think scratch (or bloody close to it) is the minimum requirement to actually gain anything from a premium ball.
A really good video. Plenty of things to think about. Driver figures especially interesting. So much down to the short game control.
As a higher handicap golfer, I absolutely care what a ball looks like, as the brightly colored balls are easier to find in the rough and trees... 😀 I am on the verge of a switch in balls from Cut Grey to Vice Pro Soft, but I must admit, it's only because Cut was out of stock on their Atomic Yellow balls when I had a bad round and OBed my way to being short on supply. The dispersion on all the shots was shockingly similar. I might have bought the myth that the urethane cover is worth the added cost over the less expensive Surlyn (Vice) or Ionomer (Cut) covers.
I guess I’ll keep saying it. Play the ball that works for you. Just bought a bunch of callaway warbirds. High launch and low spin. Catch it out the middle and it takes off like a rocket
Lol. If you can get past the disgustingly hard feel of it sure.
@@shmirginhymer1867they don't feel any harder than a ProV1x. The Warbird's weakness is the low spin on chips and mid irons--making it hard to hold the green. It's high flight is what holds the green with wedges.
It does scuff a lil easier than other distance balls IMO.
@@shmirginhymer1867 I don’t mind the firmness of it. I like the launch and spin properties of the ball. I understand that it doesn’t spin well around the greens and have learned how to play it
@@DoBraveryFPS I hit a high shot anyway. I rely on decent angle over spin to stop the ball. It’s working pretty good so far
@@ryanwalters694I like Warbirds. They're easier to keep on the fairway with a driver than a lot of balls. I feel one can compensate for the low spin. The whole notion that a distance ball must feel like a brick is outdated, or reserved for smaller brands.
I have always struggled being a very low spin player and struggled in lower irons ect to get the ball to stop on a green , had a fitting and got a shock changed from mizuno to q star tour 3500-4000 difference in spin , didn’t really care about distance
Have heard that soft balls may be better for players with slower swing speeds as it may be a bit easier to compress a softer ball.
I’ve used vice. They aren’t bad but the matte finish is awful. Hard to spot in the ground. They actually aren’t that cheap compared to Kirkland etc. didn’t do great in mygolfspy testing either. That being said I think it’s a good product for some people :)
nothing matte performs really well, brand aside. the other Vice balls performed well for MGS in 2023 though.
Great vid, a lot of good info to consider when picking my next ball. Though I will be real, I am not good enough to really get the most out of the higher tier balls.
another great in depth video and so true we all desire more distance especially us vets
Surprised with the results especially on distance with driver. Good info M8
What about the pro zero?closer to a tour or a pro soft?it has a urethane fused cover and its 3 piece..
I think I remember Rick saying years ago, to never pick the ball off your Driver, they are all going to go roughly the same distance.
Recently played a round with the Pro Plus. I had a better round with it than the Titlelist Pv1!
I started choosing golf balls by appearance. Makes it more fun. I have a shop in my neighborhood that is a lost ball/ice cream shop. I have an ice cream and pick through the A+ bins to buy balls at 1/3 the price. They do not go OB at the same ratio though.
16 handicap here, sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe Sh!t...i prefer a urethane cover because of the feel...but its the feel off the putter more than any other club. Bit of a weird one i guess 😅
Great video, but Vice has one more ball the Pro Zero.
Another, really nice hat ❤
Another great video
I just buy random golf balls like .. whatever I see on sale on Amazon lol .. got a dozen chrome soft truvis USA flag balls for 30 bucks … not bad when theyre usually closer to 50 …
Please do a video showing golfers when to throw away damaged golf balls.
YT golf channels always get ball testing wrong, either because the methodology is wrong or the data analysis is hopelessly inept.
In terms of testing methodology the gold standard is how MyGolfSpy tests, although I would argue that they do not have a large enough data sample for each type of ball for each swing speed. Sadly their data analysis is terrible.
The key to doing the data analysis correctly is statistical significance and crucially whether the results are by chance or show actual differences between golf balls. You would need a professional statistician to determine what the correct data test should be to determine whether the results are chance or not.
The biggest myth in golf ball testing is one MGS have pushed for years - "soft is slow" - that wasn't even true based on MGS' original data.
I have used the Vice Pro in the past and found it to be an excellent ball although on balance I prefer the TP5
Until I can GIR most holes. "Cost effective" Nitro balls will do.
Actually we need more variables amateurs probably can’t make 1 in 10 dead Center strikes and all we can hope for is ball consistently. Price is almost as important as consistency, with the ridiculous prices and fear of losing a ball we are more confident with a cheaper ball that compares to the so called premium balls!
The cover of the green balls scuff too easy! I like the ball, but don't like that they lose color too easily.
Watch later, rolling up on first tee.
71* no clouds
Nice! Play well 😎
28.99 is there normal price, just a "feel good" scam. shame on vice.
Vice balls perform well but turn yellow very quickly. They are very poor value for money.
not a fashion show--- the low score is what matters bud
i get balls based off putts lol
Glad I wasted 15 minutes here.
Simmon, You must realize studio / computerized Data is no where near any real Data on a real golf course.
Appreciate that, but only way you can seperate them by averages. As rough, wet, lie, would make it very difficult to distinguish them. But in exactly the same conditions this balls will react differently, even if slightly for the average golfer such as myself. 👍
