.....started watching this series at 330am, took a breakfast break and did some morning things & stuff.... half-way or so through the Rosa Madolin series at 930am!!!
blkjckgtrnut just came in from welding a bunch of equipment that my son tore up. Took about 3 hours this afternoon and he's still got more that needs welding. Thanks for watching.
This series of videos on the construction of "The Rosa Mandolin" are absolutely fabulous. I keep learning everyday and beeing surprised by your ability to find a new solution for everyday problems in your line of work. The more difficult the job instead of making you hold back makes you look at it from a different angle. You thrive on difficult jobs and keep "Forever Young" in your mind! Well done Jerry. and what an interesting video the construction of the Rosa Mandolin is. Thanks for sharing all this with us.
Jerry, you are sometimes like a magician performing sometimes. It’s so nice to see you got that extra little mile to build a real sweet instrument. I liked what you said about your neck joint. “Do it right the first time...” Those are words to live by. Thank you for your time to film this.

As I've watched this series I've been praying that you would take care of your most important tools, your fingers. Now that you have made your sander and belts safe I can say prayer answered. ( and space for a comment)
I love the look of a laminate neck. I use laminated necks always with only one exception on a coming build and it will be cut and reversed glued for strength. Looks great so far Jerry, already seeing the curl pop on the neck carve.
I grew up with a father that believed if you want it then you need to build it. We had a woodworking shop, so at the age of 14 I built a guitar. Trust me your job is very secure. LOL! I have built plenty of furniture, and other things, but instruments, no so much! Regards, Solomon
Seriously, who gives this a thumbs down? Best I can figure it was the production engineer from one of the Chinese copy/knock-off manufacturing facilities. Impressive work sir!

Hi jerry, i too use the v joint for strength, i clip a small mirror on the back of my band saw to line the marks up to the blade. Only took 15 years for me to figure that out!
scott hennis the mirror is a good idea. My only problem with mirrors is that everything is backwards in them. I'm not very good with backwards. Thanks for watching.
Hey I know you use a coarse rasp to shape your necks a couple tools that made it easier for me is the Japanese Shinto and a shaper blade just a suggestion my friend your work is outstanding
George, you may be right...there are two 182's, but Jerry is busier than spit on a hot skillet and you have to forgive him...'sides, who counting, I'm just glad he takes the time to put a vid out!

Don't want to make you feel self-conscious, but I was going to say you've been looking really tired these last few videos (I know you have said you are crazy busy)...turns out you have rings "around" your eyes...LOL. Have you been wearing some safety glasses that are leaving these?
Thats why God made young men and young backs, teach them how and why we do things a specific way. I'm still cleaning up from the Hurricane spent yesterday as a chance to teach how to sharpen up a chain saw after you use it, that way its always sharp coming off the shelf.

Jake I agree with that line of thinking. My only problem is I usually cut so much wood when I'm out cutting I'm too tired to even think about doing anything else. I just can't wait to go crash. Thanks for watching my friend.
Yes yesterday I filled my truck to the top of the cab with a load of dead wood from the backyard. I was getting really tired watching those young men loading it up. I'm so OCD on things I wipe down all my tools and sharpen the blades when I done, it would drive me nuts if I didn't. My oldest loves coming to my shop, he knows where everything is and its clean ready to go, its a habit (or illness) I learned in the service. Also put on all new stainless brake lines on my Bronco this weekend, 1 line blew, time to change them all out.

Fourth reason for laminate is a nice permanent centre line .
If your laminated block was just a bit longer you could have gotten two necks out of it with less waste and less total work.
