Masons family and its horrible fate fitted so perfectely into the story because it showed how the world works. Innocent people, children are dying when evil people won't get stopped. I don’t get why you guys are confused about the ending. Jonah killed Mel, they were done with mafia (Ruth being a victim of their happiness) and moved to Chicago. The ending is pretty straightforward. There is no way that Jonah would kill his own mother especially after that car accident that brought them close again. The ending was good, I just feel bad for Ruth, she didn’t deserve to die.
Im a little pissed about this show. I mean, the ending wasn't bad but it didnt feel like a series finale at all. It leaves you with the question, What tf happened next?
They continued on being criminals and solidified themselves as the next powerful family with lots of skeletons in the closet. Wendy was never gonna stop until she got killed, Marty is too weak to stop her and will continue to be her support, Charlotte was pretty much going along with everything for most of the show...the only detractor was Jonah, but the ending shows him coming around and committing to the “family business.” So now the family is whole, and they’re all on board to protect the business making them even stronger. They become a facsimile of a cartel, a mafia.
They messed it up. The deaths of major characters we'd followed for 3 or 4 seasons were really anticlimactic. Frank sitting there yelling at an irrational psychopath in her own home with no back-up seemed absurd. Ruth's death wasn't done well. The show ending on Noah shooting the PI made sense from the point of his arc but the way it was delivered and happened felt like it was shoehorned for the sake of it.
