    Hey guys, I'm Emrah. You can ask me anything about KickShaper. Full disclosure, Paul and I are very close friends. Our friendship started when Paul just started his RUclips channel, and we share ideas, talk about everything, and help each other. Paul wasn't paid for this video, there is no affiliate link, and he is just helping his friend to spread the word about a great plugin. KickShaper is a premium plugin and a big problem-solver. I have been mixing and mastering songs every day for four years in a row, but my engineering journey has started 25 years ago. I have never sent a mix to a client without using KickShaper in my workflow since the first KickShaper concept was released as alpha/beta. It's really hard work, and it took me years to achieve a problem-solver plugin. Thanks to everyone who supports KickShaper.

      Thank you Emrah! I recently picked this up! It looks really good... I can't test it yet because my Rig just died unexpectedly! (It was far too young to die!) 😭 Just a bedroom sing a songwriter producer... So it's going to take me some time to get up and running again. Looking forward to trying this out! Paul's demonstration of how it (naturally) shortened the sustain on low bass was what hooked me! Great work!

    I initially passed when the flyer came from WA... Not that they are bad (Obsidian is crazy good), just thought it wouldn't do anything better than my current toolkit. I was wrong. Bought it after watching the vid! This does the job quickly and efficiently. Working magic on kicks from old sample packs and flabby analogue donks. Nice!

    I'm still confused with the "Thump" Section, Emrah explains with other transient shapers 4:44, which is associated with Attacks of the sound (Transient shaper is usually associated with the Attack right?, but how is it related to Kick's Sustain?
    analyzing high frequencies for catching attack is something I understand but I'm still confused how Thump section is related to the Sustain of the sound.
    Could you elaborate more on this section Paul? :)

    • @PaulThird
      @PaulThird  8 месяцев назад

      Read the pinned comment which explains what thump and click do.
      Traditional transient shapers (I know.. Why do they call them transient if it does attack AND sustain.. instead of transient shaper, just think of envelope shaper) affect the attack and sustain of the whole frequency spectrum of the source.
      Emrah has seperated it so the transient detection (attack) of the envelope shaper is only triggered by the higher frequencies and the sustain of the kick is only triggered by the lows.
      This solves the timing issues involved with shaping attack and sustain at the same time.
      Transients are mostly very short fast bursts of high frequency energy so in theory the transient part of the envelope shaper should only read high frequencies and not be "distracted" by the slower sustaining low frequencies.

    • @Mixyap
      @Mixyap 8 месяцев назад

      Transient shaper plugins do have attack and sustain. For the Kickshaper, we could not call it Attack - Sustain due to fact they both works differently. The Click only affect the higher portion of a Kick sample and never touches the low frequencies. And thump section is only touching the low frequencies and it never takes away the sharpness of beautiful kick attacks. It's working as multiband Transient Shaper under the hood but it's triggering algo is unlike anything you have seen on the market. It beats all classic transient shapers out there that I have ever compared to it.

    Bit of extra info to add context to the discussion 🤓
    (also full showcase with audio examples in description)
    Frequency finder
    Your journey starts here. With the simple press of the Finder button KickShaper intelligently identifies the dominant frequency of your kick, instantly determining the perfect way to enhance your kick's tail. Of course, this can be manually adjusted if needed. This ensures that KickShaper’s processing always aligns with your kick's musical key.
    Deboom
    At the heart of KickShaper is the Deboom dial. If your kicks have tons of low end and struggle with distortion or overpower your mix, this feature is your salvation. It's not just another low-cut or compressor. Instead, Deboom ingeniously shortens the wavelength of low frequencies, giving you kicks that are punchy and impactful, yet concise. These kicks will effortlessly work together with your earth-shaking basslines and 808s. No longer will your kicks dominate the entire low-frequency spectrum; they'll blend seamlessly with the rest of your track.
    Tails
    KickShaper boasts an exclusive approach to crafting kick tails, setting the plugin apart from simple sub-generators. This Tail module resonates with the filters, producing frequency resonance that's entirely devoid of nasty boomy artifacts. By extracting the sub frequencies from the original kick and naturally harmonizing them, KickShaper tails integrate with your original kick, ensuring a clean and cohesive sound every time.
    Thump and click
    The Thump knob analyzes low-frequency wavelengths and fine-tunes your kick's sustain, exclusively impacting the low end while preserving the kick's core. KickShaper's Click module introduces an advanced transient shaping algorithm that handles unpredictable kick patterns, rapid-fire kicks, and varying tempos. By analyzing high-frequency wavelengths, precise transient shaping is acheived, making KickShaper your go-to plugin for catching transients.

      The plugin has all of emrahs techniques in it which is the whole point of the video.
      Of course it's promoting the plugin, that's a given, but the main purpose of the video is to explain the method behind it which includes detailing many solutions to various problems that occur when mixing kick drum.
      I wouldn't have took so much time editing this down for just a fucking free advert.
      It pisses me off that it's viewed as just another plugin advertisement (I know what people mean by this) when I specifically asked Emrah to come on the channel and take time out of his schedule to explain why he made it which in turn is giving my the audience the secrets behind how many professional engineers achieve such clean loud punchy low end.
      The video could have been how to achieve it via the long winded methods he used but he took the time to put it all into a super affordable plugin. The plugin is a lesson in itself, from a techicical master of mixing and mastering.
      I use it and I promised my audience id only feature plugins on my channel that I genuinely use

      @@TheJohnsofDoes I am sorry if I did not make myself clearer with the meaning. Reducing the wavelength indeed in theory typically refers to making the sound produced by the kick drum have a shorter or higher-frequency waveform. This is how pitch and frequency work as you stated. But in practical terms, it may refer to shorter wavelength too. To be more clear, when you have a sub-frequency energy that is longer and sustains a lot, you may need to make it shorter. We often use fade-out right? In practice, it's also reducing the duration of wavelength. But it will change the characteristics of that very specific kick drum. This could be an unwanted process.
      By reducing wavelength I mean reducing the duration of the specific frequency and KickShaper will analyze the power and duration of the most dominant sub-frequency on the fly and reduce the length of the wave. As it will only affect the problematic area it's a much better solution than a say fadeout or low cut or any compression in that manner.
      KickShaper never touches the pitch that would be silly. It will simply perfectly reduce the duration of wavelength and the result will be punchier, tighter kicks every time.

  • @doktagc01

    I really wonder what a "healthy" kick is like. When I think of the sample packages for edm music and comparable genres a precompressed kick with almost nothing around 100hz, a big sub around 40-50hz, a punch between 150 and 250hz and a nice click above 1k comes to my mind. Or is a healthy kick from a classic drum machine where there is the nearly same amount/volume of signal/info on almost every frequency (30hz to 20khz)? Asking for a friend ;) btw: I really like the plugin - bought it without right away, because it really saves a lot of time.

    • @PaulThird
      @PaulThird  7 месяцев назад +1

      I would define a healthy kick as a consistent kick that doesn't suffer from excessive bloated low end and doesn't mess with the timing of the limiter. One that gives you a "healthy" amount of low end that remains tight and punchy whilst still giving you the feel. Boomy low end plays havock with the balance of your mix and too much of it uncontrolled can really affect the timing of your limiter.
      That's my take on it anyway

    • @PaulThird
      @PaulThird  8 месяцев назад +2

      I know what a straight up advert looks like. If we are going to call this "just an advert" then we should class EVERY video using or showing a plugin in the video an advert. Of course it's promoting the plugin, the title and thumbnail is obvious but the content matter behind it is all about how a professional mixes kick drum and how his tool encorporates all of those methods. As soon as Emrah made it I was like.. Now I can get you on the channel.
      It was a collaborative video where instead of me talking about a plugin that I use when mixing kick, i got the man behind it to expand and give away as much of his secrets as possible.
      Its not my fault that my audience is mostly only interested in my videos that incorporate a plugin.
      If I made a video called "how I mix kick drum without plugins".. It would flop.
      1. Because im not viewed as a trusted professional source for mixing
      2. My audience want fed plugins
      It might seem I'm taking this out on you but I'm just venting now. Do you understand how annoying it is to make content to help educate people that always needs to have a fucking plugin attached to it for it to do well?
      We are both on the spectrum, so you'll know I'll obsess over my channels stats and look for audience patterns and the overwhelming pattern for my channel is to include a plugin that people can demo or buy on the cheap.
      I've wanted to have emrah on the channel for years but it would involve Emrah showcasing a lot of plugins that were unavailable cause he made them himself via melda mxxx. It would just frustrate people, where I waited till he had made something that was accessible to others.
      Its frustrating cause this is a video that's been years in the making and hopefully the open door to bring Emrah's wisdom to the English speaking audience now he's got over the hurdle of worrying about his translation and accent
