I was fortunate enough to see John perform several times in a very intimate setting at the Dakota Bar and Grill in Minnesota. He and his accompanying musicians were fantastic and he would always, at my request, play my favorite in his repertoire, “The River is Blue,” a song he wrote for his high school girlfriend. Classy, talented, and kind man (like his dad, the great, late guitarist, Bucky Pizzarelli.❤
I lived in Las Vegas until 2015 and saw him a couple of times there. I had the pleasure of seeing him this past Saturday, here in Salt Lake City at the Capitol Theater. My adult daughter "Oh, I hate jazz" went with me and liked it. He was with a vocalist named Catherine Russell--I was not familiar with her but she is terrific and they had a great show. Even thought it was 28 degrees when we left the theater.
The whole conception is extraordinary. John holds the whole thing together. The pianist is exuberant. I love the restrained rhythm section and the accentuating base. These men are first-class musicians. Make me feel glad to be alive. I know that other people feel like I do. And a few very special ones can put that into music.
I've been a huge fan of John Pizzarelli for years and really enjoyed meeting him and his brother on a jazz cruise but I have to say that this is some of his best work ever! Keep swingin', John...
Sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Nova Braylen i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
This particular cover blows my mind every single time I hear it. In principle, I’m against calling any song perfect. But this one makes me wonder. John Pizzarelli was my BUS COUNSELOR!!! What a lucky kid!!!!!! John, if you see this, it’s Brook Zelcer. I’m truly happy for your success. I always appreciated your warm sense of humor and consistent excellence in dealing with the kiddies. Oh, and that guitar!!!!
Agreed, very tasty. But regrettably, the last couple of times I saw John in-person, he was touring as a trio (piano, bass and guitar/voice). He left the drummer at home. Don't know if this was a cost cutting move or an artistic choice. I can imagine with airlines raising the fees for luggage that taking a drummer and his kit on tour is a consideration. But on the other hand, without a drummer on the road, who is responsible for shagging the chicks for the band members? I mean, we all have our unique skills. The bass player usually is in charge of ironing the tuxes. Because I am a drummer and have always enjoyed the 'sidemen on the skins' that John has brought on the road with him, I very much miss the drummer on both swing tunes and also the latin part of his catalog. Let me just say that the next time you pass through Minneapolis, I can suggest several locals who would be honored to sit in . . . including myself!
Wonderful! It`s just coincidence that I stumbled over the original 1967 LP of Sinatra and Jobim two days ago in a record store not far from my place. The album is terrific and Pizzarelli and his band do justice to it :)
You are fantastic. You make it easy what is really the opposite. I have the book of scores you did a while ago for simple guitar. As I see that you use the seven-string guitar, also I recently, it would be helpful for everyone to make another book but with the chords you use. Thank you very much for all the music you do. From Barcelona (Spain)
Wow! Love it! "Sinatra & Jobim @ 50" el último trabajo de @itsthepizz en el que rinde tributo al álbum "Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim" editado en 1967, una obra de arte que el guitarrista reproduce aportando su toque personal al trabajo de dos de sus artistas más admirados. En 1968 el álbum original fue nominado a 'Álbum del Año' en la décima ceremonia de los Grammy, pero perdió ante el "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" de The Beatles. #NOWandThen #Bossa #SmoothJazz
Would love to see these guys perform on a starry night, right in the rooftop garden lounge of a breathtakingly beautiful skyscraper overlooking the Bund in Shanghai or the Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.
Can somebody help me find what I thought was John P. but with a quartet including a pianist who passed away at age 60(?) and had to spend his last years in a nursing home. He was just incredible but I forgot his name. Didn't John Pizzarelli have a quartet too?
Baubles, bangles, hear how they jing, jinga-linga Baubles, bangles, bright shiny beads Sparkles, spangles, your heart will sing, singa-linga Wearin' baubles, bangles and beads You glitter and gleam so Make somebody dream so That some day I may buy you a ring, ringa-linga I've heard that's where it leads Wearin' baubles, bangles, and beads You glitter and gleam so Make somebody dream so That some day, some day I may buy you a ring, ringa-linga I have heard that's where it leads Wearin' baubles, bangles, and beads

Tom Jobim Frank Sinatra canta.
Baubles, bangles, hear how they jing, jinga-linga
Baubles, bangles, bright shiny beads
Sparkles, spangles, your heart will sing, singa-linga
Wearin' baubles, bangles and beads
You glitter and gleam so
Make somebody dream so
That some day I may buy you a ring, ringa-linga
I've heard that's where it leads
Wearin' baubles, bangles, and beads
You glitter and gleam so
Make somebody dream so
That some day, some day I may buy you a ring, ringa-linga
I have heard that's where it leads
Wearin' baubles, bangles, and beads
Frank Jr.? Yes, Frank Jr.!
Sweat
No me gusto nada
Really wanted to like him,
Love
Sinatra
Marten
Michael Buble
Etc
But not feeling it.
Sounds like he's whispering not singing.
Bummer!!
this is how bossa nova singers sing, in a whispery, soft tone.
Get off the stage nobody tops Sinatra !
El jazz o el blue me aburren, prefiero escuchar otro tipo de música.grs
