A lot of that colour in the water was probably the indigo itself, rather than dirt or grime. When thinly dispersed in the water, the dye can have a pale green hue, which can look a bit yellowish. I get the same thing even with brand new items that I'm pre-soaking. Particularly if it was natural indigo, then some of the indigo molecules might not have completely oxidised (oxidisation makes the dye go from it's raw yellow to green and eventually blue).

I was always wondering why I got that yellow in my soaks; I assumed it was the starch, but it makes sense that it’s the indigo.

Woolite dark for my denim, I’m looking at getting some of that soy based natural soap from samurai though :)

Man, that looks fantastic on you. I got real lucky and was able to buy Naked & Famous's Kikko Denim Jacket, which isn't sashiko, but has a similar texture. I love it, and I think a lot of denim-adjacent textured jackets tend to do well and sell out cause people have an easier time wearing them with jeans without feeling self-conscious about the double denim look (I know that was the case for me). I wanted an indigo sashiko jacket for so long, and kinda settled on the kikko one, but after having it in hand, I have no regrets. Still, I'd be curious to try a 100% cotton selvedge indigo sashiko jacket like yours.

I’m about to buy a sashiko 12 oz shirt from railcar and they are telling me to order a whole size up and do an initial soak. Recommend? I always hand wash my nice shirts cold and hang dry.

The subtle character change after the wash looks great. Man, I still regret not buying this jacket a few years ago. Much prefer the look of the OG without the hand pockets.

I've decided not to stress on when to wash my denim! Plus, I'm too impatient! I get anxious to see the transformation! Lol!!

I always shower with any denim piece prior to first wear
Slightly warm water , then do a range of calisthenics to break down the textile and establish wear mark patterns custom to my body . Go to hang for a few hours them back to a wear and typically a wall out side to dry out more and conform to the physique. Hang again , blow dry with a hair dryer then another cycle an hour later of calisthenics. Hang overnight 24 hours then season the piece with oils / attars Ensar and or Maison Anthony Marmin along with a beastly niche fragrance that smells amazing on clothing. Leave it for a few days for a maturation and ripening then 72 hours later it’s ready to start fading . One of the things I really love is the denim and sashiko pieces hold onto the aromas for several months and it’s is pure magic . After about a week or two it mellows out and just has an amazing subtle aroma and it’s intoxicating to anyone that is fortunate to get in your vicinity. The initial rinse expedites the entire vibe and aesthetic of any piece . Pants shirts and jackets and I find that breaking the fabric in this way has several benefits that most will never know of until they try it . Peace

Bro the Orslow slim fatigues are £255 on End nowadays! Would you say they are worth that much? I know you paid like £100 less for yours…

You can easily get new orslow pants on the 2nd hand market especially if you live in western europe. I got a pair of their 107 cut jeans in the 2 years wash for 80euros on Vinted, and they were brand new with tags ( shop price was 325 euros lol ). And i keep seeing their fatigue pants come up on the website, if you know your size i would consider 2nd hand definitely ! Hope that helps :)

I kind of agree with the second hand option. They aren't like jeans which you fade 'your way' and to be honest they are best after they are worn in. So, if you can find a second hand pair from Vinted or Marrkt then go for it. Would be a big saving. I can't believe how expensive they are to be honest.

Love that jacket and it looks great on you. What loafers are you wearing in the video? Love them as well. I've got a pair of Joseph Cheaney Hadley Loafers and they're starting to wear in beautifully but never considered wearing them with denim. But after watching your video I'm going to give it a whirl! Thanks.

Ahh well it’s a first for me. Too. I’ve just got myself a pair of penny mocs from Oak Street bootmakers. Never really had loafers before but my boat shoes are pretty much gone and I wanted to try something new. Just testing them out with different outfits. Video to come on those. Loving them with the OrSlow fatigues actually!

I remember the first review of this jacket and being blown away by Sashiko as a fabric.
I'd not heard of it until then.
I ended up grabbing the RGT sashiko cruiser and still absolutely love it.
