The routes in SMTVV remind me of the routes in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. You can't get a real complete story by just playing one route, BUT the game at least tries to make you think you get a complete story. Which has its own problems (characters like Edelgard and Dimitri looking shallow and one-dimensional when playing their route, and then playing a route where they're an opponent, fleshes them out).

The biggest problem with shinjuku is how late it’s introduced. By the time I got there I was feeling kinda tired of the open format and very ready for a linear dungeon like in the older games. But shinjuku is massive and when I finally beat it I was given the worst dungeon in the game to explore shakan. The best dungeon isn’t even in the vengeance route. Just can’t help but feel like there’s a best version of this game that exists by combining the two routes together a little more. I don’t think the story stuff from creation is really vital to understand the vengeance route, but one thing that is (although the base game was worse) is the game never really explains what magatsuhi or the demon summoning program is. Just expects you to know from previous entries. Also safety speedruns of this game are 🔥

I'm playing vengeance for the first time without playing the original, but I knew some of the story beforehand due to watching some reviews for 5. Having that context really helps, since I was already familiar with the characters and setup. When I got to shakan and they kept talking about the demon king I realized how much vengeance expects you to know creation since that was the first plot point I wasn't very familiar with. I still think the story is good, it's just a shame that you have to play both routes to really get it. I was originally not going to play creation but after seeing vengeance reference creation a lot it got me curious about the differences, so I will play it after I beat the superbosses.
Also the mitama DLC is definitely overkill for the main campaign. It's nice for the postgame when you need to grind though.

Damn, I never checked but now I don't regret not owning persona Q2. If it's not dub, that's just lazy. Strange journey is all about the gameplay so whatever. Persona games have so much dialogue.
