I think you're my favorite artist content creator. You do a fantastic job at talking about your art and your struggles with your pieces without being overwhelmingly negative or unrealistically positive about it. I know you've said in the past that you struggled with how people want you to sound about your own art. You're relatable and funny, and you are so enjoyable to watch! I don't leave comments on videos often, but I felt the need to share with how wonderful a video this was. Thank you for the content you put out!
That's actually such a great idea. My mum used to love photographing landscapes and wildlife. I wonder if she has any photos she'd like to offload to my reference library?! That perspective on the carpet really isn't that bad, because I'm assuming this photo is probably 70s/80s and hideous carpets with deliberate mismatching patterns were actually quite common.
Love this! My mom and I never had a good relationship before she passed away and I like the idea of painting an old photo of hers to "collaborate through time," it would be a great way to connect with her as a young woman before the stress of a large family and cancer got to her. Thanks Al!
I've also been painting from family photos! My mother died some years ago and it feels like I get to be with her again. I wonder if this is just a thing our generation will do since we have such a rich catalogue of personal color film photos. You learned so much in making this piece, I'm so proud of you for pushing yourself, just look how much that effort made you grow! I would cherish this piece forever, and hang it somewhere communal, it's beautiful. PS the rug is perfect, you allowed yourself to get painterly there!
I absolutely love the end result?? Like I know it's not my mom's photo but it immediately feels like I'm out with my mom and her friends bowling and making silly photos ❤️
Very cool! I actually think the shift in perspective in the carpet adds something interesting and I thought it was intended before you mentioned it. Love the nostalgic vibe and uniqueness!
I love this painting it turned out so great. The socks really are chef’s Kiss! I know you don’t like the jeans as much but I think that the jeans looks so great. Like you can see the softness of that pair of jeans you wore in high school nearly every single day, where it no longer has the rough stiffness of when you bought it. It is now that really soft pliable fabric. I can feel those jeans. It’s nice. Such a cool way to memorialize your mother’s past. I am glad you took the time to talk about your slay period and how you’re really just making pieces that you are incredibly proud of. You should be proud. This is a great piece.
That painting came out so well!! I love the difference between the realism of the shoes and the more graphic background, It's so satisfying to look at❤
The backdrop for the shoes is SO aesthetically pleasing. The warping adds to it, I think! Since it helps the atmosphere feel all wobbly and surreal. A happy mistake :>
We're proud to see some of our Blick Studio oils in this artist's kit! This large canvas was quite an accomplishment! But we're not surprised that it came out so well. Using a red earth color for the imprimatura- a practice popular among 16th c Venetian artists- was a terrific choice that provided a unified, glowing quality to the entire piece. We hope to see more works in oil from this artist, who just seems to go from strength to strength every time we tune in!
I loved the video you did about you and your mom as if you were young together, im sorry the video didn’t do as well as you hoped. I loved it, and I’m excited to finish this one too 🖤
I wouldn’t know where I would put such a big canvas except in my attic where it would collect dust, but sometimes I think it would be cool to do something so huge
Gorgeous! I love the color palette of warm orange and cool blue, and this piece works with it really well. The carpet being a bit wonky in the corner doesn't bother me at all--is it weird that I think that its chaos and funkiness feels even more like bowling alley carpet than real-life bowling alley carpet? If that makes sense!
As soon as you showed the reference I was in 100% agreement-- perfect painting subject. How cool that it was your mom's photo!!! Generational colab!!! You did it justice!! Love it
I LOVE your nostalgic pieces, sooo good!! Oddly enough I kinda like the subtle perspective change...I think maybe because it draws the eye to focal point and adds some energy/weight making it feel like the foot is in action plus it is a little trippy like the carpet itself.
This is so fire ! ur truly in your slay era, the concept the execution the music choices in the video?? What a banger mothers say weekend drop, made me want to call my mom. 10/10 bestie
Great video!! I love the way the carpet changes perspective! I think it adds a slightly trippy effect that gives the painting some movement! Thanks for sharing 💜
You’re definitely in your slay era! The painting turned out amazingly! And you brought new life to the image with your artistic eye and voice. It sounds like you and your mom have a great relationship, and I think it’s so sweet when you speak about her so fondly. Keep up the hard work! 💜💜😊
Wow this painting is amazing Al! I also love the meaningful art pieces you’re doing lately with your moms photos it’s really a beautiful series. The colors, the textures, the meaning ugh it’s all so great! This made me want to get up and paint ❤😂.
THIS PAINTING IS STUNNING. You truly are in your slay era!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Honestly, i love the way the carpet slants, it gives a very dream/memory vibe to the painting

This is such a cool idea! I love the vintage feel you’ve got with muted colours 😊
You nailed what I'm thinking! Also I feel the excitement, can't wait to see what else you make in the future Al 💛
