This social enterprise saw how empowering women helps children and communities | Common Room PH

For social enterprise Habi Footwear and Lifestyle, empowering women artisans was a way to help children and communities. Working with both urban and rural communities all over the Philippines-from Payatas in Quezon City to Basilan in Mindanao-Habi started because of the volunteer work they were doing for kids. Janine Chiong, Habi’s co-founder and general manager, saw that finding ways to empower women had positive effects to the children and their community. What began with just footwear made of woven fabric, Habi now carries different handmade lifestyle accessories made from different materials and weaving techniques. Common Room PH is a collaborative space for artists and makers in the Philippines. Our physical
stores provide a venue for local creatives to showcase their handcrafted products and original artworks. Our web store and digital platform on RUclips enable our community to reach more, not only through their products, but also
through their stories. Our hope is that whether online or offline, these venues provide a home and a safe space for creatives to express themselves, support each other, grow together, and empower others to make with their hands.
