it happened on willingdon ave next to the BCIT campus, i was there for an evening class when it happened. Corvette was stolen and the guy crashed it and took down the hydro pole which knocked power out to the whole campus. Was between classes and remember seeing tons of cops driving around the campus and looking through the large parking lots on the east side of the campus.
crv is at fault. literally stopped in the middle of the road. also cant really tell from the cam but i dont see any left turn signals from it either. cant believe they just drove away after potentially killing someone like that
I live on Canada Way, and I have to admit the accident at 3:40 was kind of a surprise. I was totally expecting the Lexus that's a full car length in front of the stop line (and halfway into the lane) was going to make a move. Well played, random blue SUV.
The middle lane there is a left turn lane for both directions. It's better to turn into in then merge into the normal traffic lanes. He probably slowed down because there was traffic coming, which arguably he shouldn't have turned left at all, or just sped up and merged further down the line. I would give them the benefit of doubt and suggest they probably hesitated because they misjudged which lane the traffic was in, mainly due to rushing after that van turned left in front of them and blocked their view.
4:10 that car just left the scene??? wtf without checking it was their fault, the car that crashed was because of them they were trying to avoid them. UNBELIEVABLE
The very first clip. BOTH vehicles have a STOP sign. You can't SEE the sign on the right, but you can certainly see the sign on the opposite side, and there is no STOP sign on the crossing street. So there COULD be a situation of "courtesy" but NOT in this case. So the rule is very simple. ANYONE GOING STRAIGHT, NOT CHANGING LANES, HAS THE RIGHT OF WAY ....EVEN IN AN INTERSECTION where the "lane" still exists. The clip at 0:38 ....almost completely satisfying. None of the other vehicles touched. I would have preferred to see a direct, straight-on hit on the telephone pole ......AND THEN A FOLLOWUP CLOSEUP VIDEO OF THE DRIVER. EVERYONE watching these videos SHOULD be learning, ....whether intentionally or not (SUBCONSCIOUSLY) ......to be DEFENSIVE when turning left at ANY intersection. . .
didn't you know, the corruption in the Richmond DL office was so bad you could literally buy one from it. 90% of the staff were fired and charged when ICBC finally cleaned it up.
4:11 so how would the insurance claim of this situation work? That driver didn't hit the jerk that caused this whole situation, and from the video context we don't see the idiot stopping... So what happens then? Single vehicle accident? Blamed fully on the accident driver?
Watching this is like playing a game of geoguessr lol I've driven a couple of these roads and you can always hypothesize an accident occurring anywhere. But seeing one actually happen on a road I frequent is a different story.
Maybe, but I'm not sure. She was driving into the truck's blind spot and getting boxed into the lane, but from the video the truck start to merge into her lane, she honked, and only then the blinkers came on. Putting the blinkers on is not a free pass for turning, one needs to be sure the blind spots are covered before executing the maneuver.
@@AlexKasper Whoever is in their own lane is always in the right when someone crashes into them. And someone changing lane, either just for fun or because it's the end of their lane is always at fault, period.
This is what defensive driving is supposed to solve. Look ahead.. see that the lane is ending.. see that there’s a big semi occupying it.. and either let the semi in or accelerate and get out of the way. Nope.. people are clueless to their surroundings.. only driving a car length ahead of them if that.
People don't seem to realize it's a lot easier for you to hit your brakes on your car vs the semi driver driving a 80,000lb load he's not gonna slow down or slam his brakes while merging so you need to give them the right of way in these situations
5:44 because of people like that Acura driver the people that got into car crash will have to go through a whole lot of bullshit for something they didn’t even do and were following the rules I hope icbc catches the real person at fault here
@@AlexKasper exactly. So the truck driver committed MULTIPLE offences, and these people insist the truck driver was on the right. I wonder how good under people are with driving or even have a driver license.
I love how all these people who cause accidents like the one in front of the multi-coloured townhouses just carry on either ignorant or uncaring of the mayhem they leave in their wake. I would love to see someone set up a camera at a number of on-ramps and filter lanes in Vancouver especially the on ramp to the Deas Tunnel southbound at Steveston Hwy and document how these people have 0 understanding of how to merge into traffic
why do people drive in the perfect blindspots of giant trucks - especially in bad weather. Just get ahead of the truck or stay behind them (with a big distance infront or behind).
By watching crashes in Vancouver ive made 3 facts in my mind. 3 biggest problems on Vancouver roads: distracted driving, left turns and driving on red light. Also just basic stupidity of people but I won't count that...
When you come to a stop behind another vehicle you want to be able to see where their back tires touch the road and then stop another foot or two back from there.
THAT many of them though?! The more likely explanation is that they're just really stupid people. There are so many people in the general public that are just brain-dead. They nearly cause a crash or they do cause a crash and they don't even flinch. I see it all the time. Humanity is far dumber than we give them credit for. I'm surrounded by idiots every time I go out in public.
This is why I keep a safe distance between me and who I'm behind. The likelihood of being rear ended is almost 100% (if you drive everyday it will just eventually happen with these type of dummies on the road). But I ain't going to be sandwiched between two cars. To those of you who get mad that I keep proper distance, flashing your high beams, honking and spazzing out inside your vehicle, just for being safe? Suck a lemon. XD
Many, if not most people can multitask, or at least listen to music. If "listening to music" was a major contributor to MVAs don't you think there would be some degree if public education at least. Stupidly, plain and simple is a much bigger bigger problem.
