I got my first Lasius N . a month ago, since this 4 weeks she has around 30 pup and at least 40 eggs and 12 workers, It's unbelievable how quickly the colony is growing, and the little ones are really bad ass, aggressive when it comes to food.
If you don't mind me asking, where abouts do you live, like what country and also is it typically quite warm over there? Its cold where I live, and my lasius niget colony is no where near as quickly growing as yours.
@@jkabrandon08 Watch my flag, then u will know where i do live, and yes it´s cold here, this year for example it´s a real cold/stormy and rainy summer, so my heaters are running 24/7-but we got a good geothermal heating system, which make it easy to hold my room temperature in the right range (24-26Celsius) for the ants. Maybe try a heating mat with a thermostat.

Hi, I'm Brazilian and I wanted tips on how to take care of Camponotus atriceps, I found one at night and I keep it in a pot with cotton (to be more exact I found 4 Camponotus), and you can leave them all separate, and I don't know what to feed them and their basic needs...
The species would be hard to tell because I don’t think much has been done to classify and name species. The fly was probably a type of phorid fly, tachinid or Microdon. Certain species of flies and wasps have specialized to attack certain ant species. They’re also hosts to certain fungi. I’ve had a few queens die and within a day or so, fungal fruiting bodies emerge from their bodies and extend out covering the ants in this creepy fungal fuzz. The macro world is amazing.
heya, I also caught 4 queens on the last flight they had here and 2 months later they are all doing well and just wanted to ask whats the best way to let the others go now they have there first workers? cheers
I’m about to make a video on that with my extra tetramorium colonies. Put them outside with the test tube enterance open for them to explore. Make sure the tube doesn’t get rained on or anything and it’s not in direct sunlight or the tube will get condensation and it will flood the tube. From my experience they will move super quick
I didn't know ants would lay infertile eggs. Man, I caught a big-headed ant female alate and tubed her despite her being winged and just chilling outside on a garbage can. She layed eggs but now that I know infertile queens can lay eggs I'm worried again, I thought I was out of the woods once she did lay eggs.. but they're bunched together like normal, but she still has her wings. I don't know. At least one of my camponotus penn. queens eggs hatched and she has her first larva. Another camponotus died over the week I left her alone. And the other one ate her eggs and almost drowned from her cotton ball leaking. But she's been surviving for so long despite being heavily damaged and me fretting too much and having to rehome her. I Fed her a dead insect and sugar water that she accepted so hopefully she can make it! I have odorous house ant queens and I know at least one was bred because a male ant mated her when I enclosed them together. No eggs from her yet..
from what i’ve heard they won’t lay any eggs if they haven’t mated, they’ll just die after a few days in captivity. my formica fusca still has both wings and 3 workers and it’s been over 6 months so you should be good!
I loved watching the colony 3 move because this is what i do with my snts just as a improvised moving method i thought of with no real experience

Those lasius neoniger look to be lasius americanus. A afternoon-night flying lasius sp that flies during July. Neoniger fly mid August to October

Same thing happend with my camp. Pen. queen, after a week of letting her and my other caught colonies be, i found her dead and a parasite coccoon.

Why are your queens so relaxed and not freaking out when you show them light and move them around?
My ex had a queen land in her hair and let me get capture it lol. It's crazy how we find these ants sometimes.
