For the 1050Ti you do not need to upgrade the PSU. 255W stock PSU can handle it. If you put 310W in, great ! even better. There might be 1650 LP exist if you can find one...
Hi TTheHobbyist(s),According to the official dell optiplex sff manual model such 9020.. .does not support more than 25W per PCI-e . You have real relevant practical experience in testing the model with a video card requiring more than 25W , so you do not have power issues, don't you?l
The PSU here is 240W or 255W. 200W is a little close. And then the issue of fitting for the USFF model. This one is SFF. If the computer is the micro version, it may not have the pcie slot.
@@thehobbyists613 The usff has no pcie16 slot so I've already upgraded to a sff and the 1050ti dosent fit inside of it so I now have a pcie riser cable running to the gpu that I have ziptied to the side of my computer and surprisingly this ~250 psu can run it

I don't know but may be you can do some estimate: the cpu is rated at 84W. Testing put the 1050Ti at 69W, each SSD consume 5W, HDD 10W, motherboard give it 15-50W, PSU efficiency 90% or 80% to be safe. For the PSU you can look up specs online it's either 240W or 255W I do not remember since it's been a while but i do remember that the 9020 have bigger PSU than 9010 so could be 255W.
Had big problems with this for some reason, couldn’t install the drivers, physically installed ok but game ready drivers didn’t work at all. Tried a win 10 rebuild aswell. Using an msi 1650, what did you use?
Sorry but I sold this PC a long time ago. My friend played CS:Go on it with no issue and i've heard anything from the buyer for more than half a year so I guess everything is fine. In 2019 thou I no longer deem this build worth it since aside from PSU every PC parts has gotten so cheap for the performance you get and used Intel parts are still quite overpriced (did not drop by much compare to when i made this video). It's better to start a new build with Amd ryzen 5 for a gaming pc rather than going this route.
Sorry I already sold it. But this unit played fortnite, CS go and emulation with no problem. In 2021 I would not use a quad core cpu for anything more than esport, online games and emulation thou. Perhaps it could played older AAA games with medium setting at 60fps.
You do know.. that dell x16 slot is only wired for a 2.0 x1 speed not x16 so even though the slot can fit any card.. it wont preform any better then a soggy sock. Why not read the manual. The open ended black slot is x4. So u actually fitted it currently and everyone else didn't lol
In this video I Installed into the x4 slot. It is not possible to put it into the x16 slot anyway. When I made this video it was the first time I realized it because at the time I did not find anybody mention that it can only be installed into the x4 slot until I open it in this video. Works fine thou and 1050Ti is not that demanding of a card. About manual: it's a good idea to read one, but they're not not always accurate. One example: Dell Alienware Aurora R7 manual would indicate that it is not possible to run 3 8gb ram sticks. You can run 2 or 4 sticks but not 3 (only for 8gb sticks). Dell customer service would say so too according to the forum. But in practice, we can run 3 8gb sticks.
@@thehobbyists613 i have this motherboard in a full atx case, along with many other dell, the blue slot is very limited and bottlenecks basic cards even a 1050ti is bottle necked in the blueslot. @@ajr1610 The pinouts would be extremely helpful and of interest to many people so you may consider making a guide. For the mini tower version, the motherboard is different. After a PSU switch those 7010/7020/9010/9020 tower was able to accommodate Amd Radeon Rx 580 cards no problem and keep up with all the games. My friends played CS Go on it with very good and stable frame rates and no drops or stutter that he can notice. The MT version serves pretty well as an entry level gaming rig. I put together half a dozen of those and the benchmarks fall in line with other pcs using same configurations, with CPU score usually falls in the top percentile. Dell used good components in their Optiplex line, at least at the time. As for the SFF version, it does not make much sense to swap case if what you said is true so a 1050Ti was the best they could do. A 1650 seems to consume a little more power. As for me personally, at the time of making this video I was interested in this because it was a cost-effective solution for a Small Form Factor gaming PC ($118 for PC (i5-4590, 8gb, 4tb hdd) on ebay + $20 for SSD + $20 for ram + $100 for the gtx 1050Ti) . It make sense when you can get this PC or the mid tower version for cheap (100-150 range) so that you can spend $300 or less for an entry level gaming PC. It is however a little ridiculous that the prices on these PCs on ebay has not gone down. For people who wished to change the case, consider that for less than $200 they can get a new Ryzen 5 2600 + mobo or even i5-9400f + mobo when on sale. 16gb ddr4 can be found used or even new for $60 or less so as we get to the $400 range it make more sense to make a new AMD build especially if one have access to microcenter $60 Mobo (B450) $80 -120 CPU (Ryzen 5 1600 is usually $80, Ryzen 5 2600 is $110-$120, currently 120 on newegg and $110 on newegg ebay) $40-50 for 500gb sata ssd $60 for 16gb ddr4 $40 PSU (for this you need to be patient to catch a sale, with rebate) like an EVGA 450w bronze. $110-120 for new Rx 570 (with games depend on when you buy it) or $100 for used Rx 580 8gb $60 case with glass panel and RGB if you're good at hunting. Otherwise I've gotten new case as cheap as $16 after coupon from newegg that included 2 case fans. Total less than $500 using new components and may have some RGB blings. Newegg as of now is one of the last site to still not collecting sale tax but that is going to end in the matter of days. If we cut down a little bit on the case and go for used GPU then $400 is doable. This is why I don't think these Optiplex builds are worth it if they exceed $300 factoring in swapping cases etc...
@@thehobbyists613 agree with all you said. I didnt find out about blue slot limitation until i fitted it into a full size case. Lol Its weird cause x16 slot is fully pinned (data and all lines are there) but dell decided not to use it at full speed. A 1060 6gb loses only a couple of fps on x4 vs x16. In the other boards they give u jumpers to enable the 3rd sata ports and because this is pre wired for 3 on 7020 i wondered if that's why we lost some pci lanes So best gaming machine that board can handle is 16gb Samsung loose CL 1600mhz memory (ive tried 32gb on mine but i get blue screens randomly and bois is limited on timings and voltage) :( The 4790k and 1060 6Gb in black slot. For the 1050Ti you do not need to upgrade the PSU. 255W stock PSU can handle it. If you put 310W in, great ! even better. There might be 1650 LP exist if you can find one...
Low profile graphic card, the GTX 1650 is one of the most powerful, then comes GTX 1050ti and RX 6400.
Gtx 1050 at least minimum psu needed is 300 watts. Does this really work??
Does this need a extra power source or can you put the graphics card in and play
Revolving Potato you do not need extra power with this gpu
@@tuanseattle thank you ☺
Do the sata cables on the bottom right get in the way or does the card stop short of those ports?
can I use the dell optiplex 9020 and a 1030 ti low profile?
if you mean 1030 low profile yes
it fits in the PCIe x4 slot, the power supply will not let you put it in the PCIex16 slot
you dont need to plug anything into the gpu?
Hdmi on the pc?
How many watts does your PSU have?
what screwdriver do you need
What is the best GPU I can get right now for this
Would it work with a gtx1650 LP? With exact same specs
Yes it should. One commenter said it worked for him
So much tks
Any downside putting it in the 4x slot?
Slightly less frame rate and possibly not all the power for the card from what I heard.
Good job.
Did it work or not??
is ur pc ddr3 or ddr5?
HP COMPAQ I5 3RD GEN 4GB 320GB is still good if i upgrade to 1050 ti is it good or i will choose the dell ?
As long as the card fit and the PSU can handle it (250W or higher) they are very similar
Better off with optiplex 9010 sff to get the pcie 16x instead of 4x on this model. Newer model better cpu but pcie on the last slot instead of first.
May I ask if we can fit two discrete gpu in optiplex 9020?
Does this improve fps?
Ahuman 99 yes, and graphics
You come from Vietnam ?
Hi TTheHobbyist(s),According to the official dell optiplex sff manual model such 9020.. .does not support more than 25W per PCI-e . You have real relevant practical experience in testing the model with a video card requiring more than 25W , so you do not have power issues, don't you?l
Isn’t it not an 8th gen processor tho?
a feelsbadman for the tempereatures
I just want to know what graphics card he removed is
It's a Nvidia NVS 210
@@tuanseattle thx
I have a 200w psu in a USFF and as the rest of the people here want to know
Will it run it
The PSU here is 240W or 255W. 200W is a little close. And then the issue of fitting for the USFF model. This one is SFF. If the computer is the micro version, it may not have the pcie slot.
@@thehobbyists613 The usff has no pcie16 slot so I've already upgraded to a sff and the 1050ti dosent fit inside of it so I now have a pcie riser cable running to the gpu that I have ziptied to the side of my computer and surprisingly this ~250 psu can run it
Gracias... 😊
I plan on doing this for my 9010 sff optiplex, but I’m using a GT1030 card.
I have just done the same with the 1030, everything runs sweet enough but I am still thinking of going to the 1050 for the extra 50% power. Stuff like skyrim, xcom, fallout etc run on high with good fps but anything newer will need the 1050 to go medium settings.
Hey does a GTX 1060 6gb works in 315. Watt power supply
yes
Anti Communist it should
How many watts is your power supply?
I don't remember but it was 240w or 255W. The midtower is 290w. Which is fine for the 1050Ti. the 1650 would be the strongest card you can put in it.
Sad to put a graphics card on pcie x4 but its the only way instead of moving the psu ;(
it's fine since the 1050ti is not a powerhouse to begin with. You don't need all x16 lanes.
@@thehobbyists613 Excellent answer
Works optiplex 7020?
Hi bro Normally psu bist light blink everytime you plug the computer. Right. But now , i plug no sign of light anymore.
(Dell 3060 sff psu)
Bro how do know the power supply is dead. I try to test my psu, only psu motherboard and processor are intact. My psu is BIST BUTTON FREE. I remove the 4pin 8pin connector from the motherboard , then plug the psu. The Bist light glow for 3 second, i put back again, it won't glow. No sign of light,
I try also psu test using paper clip method jamper black and green the psu bist light glow and the fan is spinning
Is my motherboard is dead or my psu?
Good Morning!
Did you have to change the font to install this video card?
Hi, what do you mean the font ? I'm not sure but no mod is needed. You install the GPU into the short slot actually
@@thehobbyists613 Sorry. I want to know If you change the energy source. My Dell optiplex 9020 has a energy source of 260 watts. Is your energy source the same as mine?
@@andreiconect I used the stock PSU which is 255W and it works fine.
Hi what psu did you use?
which model 1050ti was this
Where are you shopping gtx 1050ti del 9020sff
At that time I got one from woot.com for $99 + tax. These days I think you'd be better off with a gtx 1650 low profile if that is available.
What about amd GPU? Can you upgrade power supply? To add better GPU?
@RowyPlayz I think the optiplex 7020 has better pathway to pay upgradability. I'm going to check that out

does this card fit in the 3020?
It would fit the same
What are the tools you use called and what size is it??
It's just some generic tools you buy at walmart. Less than $10 bucks.
Bro do you know if i can put the Radeon R5 430 in this cpu?
I'm not familiar with that video but the two condition is that:
1. It has to be 75w or under
2. It has to be low profile (half height).
would it work for an optiplex 9010 core i5? I would like to install the graphics card gtx 1650 low profile
It should for a 1050 low profile. I have never tested 1650 but i heard people have done it. IMO 4 cores 4 thread at this point is no longer worth it
hellow can i put the gt710 2gb ddr5 in the dell optiplex 9020 sff? (i know there are better like the 1030 but i have no money left lol)
How do you take off those DVI things????
The bracket was removable
hey i was wondering if could use that graphics card and at the same time use 2 hdd, 1ssd, 4 8gb ddr3 ram? those are the upgrades ive placed on my 9020 optiplex mini tower..
@@thehobbyists613 isee. mine was rate 290watts afair.. thanks!
You can get a 1650 to work in a 9020 small form factor no problem btw

It's a big pain in the ass cuz there are alot of proprietary connectors and jumpers, and it'll give you a blue screen on boot every time
So I don’t have a low profile will it still work?
No
How I can buy it? (GTX1050TI-O4G-LP-BRK)
Can we get some benchmarks ?
Sorry but I sold this PC a long time ago. My friend played CS:Go on it with no issue and i've heard anything from the buyer for more than half a year so I guess everything is fine. In 2019 thou I no longer deem this build worth it since aside from PSU every PC parts has gotten so cheap for the performance you get and used Intel parts are still quite overpriced (did not drop by much compare to when i made this video). It's better to start a new build with Amd ryzen 5 for a gaming pc rather than going this route.
@@thehobbyists613 ur so wrong but ok
@@manomant181 only if you're on a super low budget, but the prices really haven't dropped.
Great💪
How does it run?
Can it fit a rx 550 4gb lp on any dell optiplex sff???
Yea i want to know that to
As long as it is a low profile(lp) card
PSU 240w should be okay for this upgrade.
Can you please upload a. vid of you playing on it
Sorry I already sold it.
Thats why i dont understand why people use it in the full size dell case or the 9020. There stupid.
If u ever wanna recase this motherboard i can tell u the pinouts to bypass the warning in bois if u boot without the dell o/i front panel and usb 3.0 wiring where u bridge the sheild and the ground piin
16gb ddr4 can be found used or even new for $60 or less so as we get to the $400 range it make more sense to make a new AMD build especially if one have access to microcenter
$60 Mobo (B450)
$80 -120 CPU (Ryzen 5 1600 is usually $80, Ryzen 5 2600 is $110-$120, currently 120 on newegg and $110 on newegg ebay)
$40-50 for 500gb sata ssd
$60 for 16gb ddr4
$40 PSU (for this you need to be patient to catch a sale, with rebate) like an EVGA 450w bronze.
$110-120 for new Rx 570 (with games depend on when you buy it) or $100 for used Rx 580 8gb
$60 case with glass panel and RGB if you're good at hunting.
Lol
Its weird cause x16 slot is fully pinned (data and all lines are there) but dell decided not to use it at full speed. A 1060 6gb loses only a couple of fps on x4 vs x16. In the other boards they give u jumpers to enable the 3rd sata ports and because this is pre wired for 3 on 7020 i wondered if that's why we lost some pci lanes
So best gaming machine that board can handle is 16gb Samsung loose CL 1600mhz memory (ive tried 32gb on mine but i get blue screens randomly and bois is limited on timings and voltage) :(
The 4790k and 1060 6Gb in black slot.
But yea my main system i use atm is ryzen 3800 as i was gonna start steaming and making videos.
