I love the Drs thorough responses. They are great, so please don't change. I had female issues during perimenopause and resolved them eating a WFPB diet - eliminating dairy was key. I was fine until I started getting chronic UTIs 5 years after reaching menopause. It was horrible. Antibiotics would mess up my gut, so I would have issues eating, beans, oats etc. I finally asked my dr for the local hormone Chef AJ mentioned after watching some of the "female" drs ( I don't remember their names, there are 2 that were on). So far, so good!

According to Dr. Greger, up to a teaspoon of Saigon cinnamon per day is OK, and any amount of Ceylon Cinnamon is OK (This was from one of Dr. Greger's Monthly Q and A Sessions).

i hope whoever asked the question about HRT does more research. no shade to Dr. Weiss, it was a decent response, but clearly not his specialty.

Agreed! Very important for the person who asked the question
to consult with a practitioner who is menopause certified. And I am here to tell you that seriously clean eating with plenty of soy did not alleviate my GSM (genitourinary symptoms of menopause). Rather, finally replacing the lost hormones per my practitioner has been the game changer.

Dr. Weiss is phenomenal, the kind of MD. I wish I lived enough to become his patient and visit his farm. A few months ago, he said he had some questions about matcha, but he didn't say what they were and I'm curious. I also wonder whether he has similar thoughts about other kinds of green tea (sencha, bancha, kukicha, roasted kukicha, etc.). My partner and I have been drinking Japanese green teas for about 50 years. The last few years, we've been able to buy many organically grown teas, so I'd like to hear Dr. Weiss's observations and thoughts. Thank you.

I get the fermented soybeans dried, online. it is a tasty crunchy, somewhat salty snack. It does taste a little like natto but is good; and I believe it contains the K2 that we get in natto.

I's interested in estrogen supplementation b/c of very low estradiol level. Low enough that the brain could shrink as a result of not getting enough of an essential nutrient. I'd like to use bio-identical, from a knowledgeable practicioner, but for budget reasons may need to take only what is available through my Medicare HMO health plan. Because I'm turning 80 this summer I'm not so concerned about initiating a cancer that takes decades to cause harm. (Plus I've followed a unprocessed diet most of my adult life, and either all-vegan or almost-all-vegan.) And don't have the BRCA gene mutation or a family history, and I'm slender. Any ideas on this????

I Really Appreciate Dr. “Wise” Weiss! 🙏
His responses to those great questions was so thorough and thoughtful and Wise!!
I love hearing about his personal ER work experience and seeing so many elderly women who became septic from UTI s. That’s useful to know.

The cassia cinnaon is the one with the highest coumarin levels, up to 250 x's higher than ceylon. It is used often in Lebkuchen/desserts. They used to warn people not to let small children eat lots of it (Xmas cookies with cassa c.). Note - many spices are not "clean" as is, they find lead for example in tumeric products from certain countries. I buy tested products from organic companies that publish the test data.

Changing my diet to WFPB vegan has gotten rid of most any flashes (cold and hot). I hardly eat beans just as a function of menu arrangements putting in foods I like to eat the best; but I know I should try more beans because many doctors say how beneficial is.
Supplements--Yes. I take no supplement pills (no B12 pills). However, I do drink tea that has a zinc supplement (1 tea bag = 30% daily allowance). I drink one tea, and possibly second one each day. Zinc is fantastic for plants. It is the main ingredient in Once a Year Rootblast.
B12--I am thinking about it. Maybe taking a pill would cause me to fret about whether it would cause bad things (including anxiety).

I had chronic diarrhea-sudden onset with Covid- with incredible stomach bloating. My internist sent me to a specialist and I was double tested (blood and stool) including sending the samples up to Mayo. No results. I had a colonoscopy too. And a cat scan. I got a lifestyle certified doc who did the SIBO tests(not covered by insurance.) No result. I did an elimination diet and found that sulphuric foods were the culprit(cruciferous and allium) even though I ate those things all my life. I had been WFPB for 8 years at that point. After suffering for over two years, I tried the refaxamin. Initially no change. But wishing a few months, I did return to normal. I still have to be careful about those sulphuric foods. Especially arugula. Was it the refaxamin? I don’t know. But my symptoms were truly debilitating. I wonder if a medically supervised water fast would help me to eat cruciferous and onion family foods again. I miss them. Not being able to eat onions is really hard.

Great interview. Chef AJ have you had Dr Marie Claire Haver on? She's a obgyn and is extremely knowledgeable about menopause, hrt and promotes a plant based diet. Dr Weiss is a bit behind in his knowlege of hrt and prescribing, as many drs now recognise how SAFE hrt is and how so many women can benefit. Ive been wfpb for a long time and it didn't help with my hot flashes and frequent utis, so im on a cream and patches and its been life changing. Women are at much more at risk from breast cancer from bad lifestyle choices than todays bioidentical hrt options.😊
