My Opa (grand uncle) and his wife also do that whenever they visit Indonesia, revisit and reminisce where they live when they were just little kid... They lived in Bandung city- Indonesia until their teenage years, before revolution war happened and they were chased away by the Japanese and revolutionary soldier to go back to The Netherlands. Now they are in their 90's just too old and too sickly to do long journey to Indonesia. I wish they are happy and healthy back in The Netherland. The funny thing that I always remember about them is that they always cry in every occation and they really like to kiss us on the cheek and hug us like there is no tomorrow 😂😂, and as a kid by the time, it makes me always wonder if The Netherlands is always very touchy and cry babies 😂😂😂, my Grandma also likes to cry alot, and my reference about Netherlands is just them, My Grandma and My Granduncle... 😂😂😂 Now I know that its the memory that make them that way always crying, always kissing, and always hugging. I think my Granduncle always feel that he lived too far from his homecountry (Indonesia) so everytime he came back, he made sure that he made the best of it, the memory of childhood.. 😂😂

But he died in the prison, torchured by the TKR until he fell ill and perrished. My Grandmother were allowed to stay in Indonesia because her second husband was a TKR General, and she was willing to abandoned all her Netherland identity, and convert to Islam. Her life was a rollercoaster, she was a true warrior...

This is the kind of journey many Indische in Netherlands would willing to die for. Revisiting the hometown where they born and grow up before moving to Netherlands. Just like my Oom planned to do now, revisiting his born place Tjilacap, and then go to Purwokerto, Semarang, and finally revisit every bit of places he used to stay in Surabaya troughout his teenage years while showing his 'Belanda totok' wife the places he remembered include the harbours where his father used to work on Indonesian shipping maaschapjt untill they move to Netherlands in 1970's.

This is the kind of journey many Indische in Netherlands would willing to die for. Revisiting the hometown where they born and grow up before moving to Netherlands. Just like my Oom planned to do now, revisiting his born place Tjilacap, and then go to Purwokerto, Semarang, and finally revisit every bit of places he used to stay in Surabaya troughout his teenage years while showing his 'Belanda totok' wife the places he remembered include the harbours where his father used to work on Indonesian shipping maaschapjt untill they move to Netherlands in 1970's.
So sitting here in Bangkok ,so happy for you and your mum ,I lost my mum and dad a few years ago ,I hope you have a wonderful trip
