The dude survives hitting the ground from 27000 ft with out a parachute in a chunk of the airplane , spends time in a POW camp , Forced to march over 500 miles , nearly bayoneted in a hay loft but sorry dude you did not complete your 35 missions your going to Japan . Lmfao can you even begin to imagine that.
Thank you for your great observation. This generation had a serious sense of duty! There was a retired WWII Army veteran in a town 40 miles from me who died about 10 years ago. At his funeral, the pastor read his bio including his service record. His wife and kids were shocked to hear that he earned a Silver Star for his actions in France in WWII. He never spoke of his war experiences to anyone. These guys were all tremendously humble. I shot over 200 interviews with this generation of veterans, and for probably half of them, I was the first person to hear their war stories. They went and did their service to their Country, came home and married their high school sweethearts, and then got on with their lives. Amazing!
