The thing with building all those sport venues so close together is that its really only useful for the olympics. Since athletes and fans will generally only use one venue at a time, it would make much more sense to disperse the venues throughout the district. This looks like exactly what the IOC has been trying to avoid since Rio: countries massively overspending their limited resources on unsustainable facilities that become embarrassing eyesores as soon as the games end. This being a disturbing ghost town even before winning a bid makes it even worse. I can't imagine they're going to want to encourage this kind of behavior
The Egyptian military is in charge of building the New Administrative District and locally they have been criticized for wasting this relatively poor country's resources on luxuries for itself. Much of the sports complexes will be luxuries for the Egyptian military regardless of any Olympic Games.

I think you guys misspelled sustainability in context of the Olympics. It´s officially spelled G R E E N W A S H I N G.
Massive!! I would adore Egypt because they dont have oil money like Dubai but still able to pull this one off. Congratulations!
Egypt is spending money they don't have. I don't think they even have the money for maintenance.
The one who can build can do maintenance
They don't even have the money to keep the lights on in Cairo...

How did u know, are u like the head manager & expert of financial stuff for the egyptian government ?
@@e.mohamed2437 Yeah, I'm American, we've been keeping Egypt's broke ass afloat for over 50 years, they work for us, unfortunately. And we can't do anything about it when they do dumb shit like build the NAC through Chinese debt because if the Egyptian house of cards collapses, so does the rest of the middle east. 🫤
Egypt's Olympic city is a bold move, but it carries risks if long-term goals aren't achieved
There's terrible poverty all across the region..so this sports stadium will help, just what the people need.
The thing with building all those sport venues so close together is that its really only useful for the olympics.
Since athletes and fans will generally only use one venue at a time, it would make much more sense to disperse the venues throughout the district.
This way the economic benefits are more evenly distributed to restaurants, hotels etc, congestion during parallel events is reduced and athletes and coaches can more easily live close to their respective stadions and training facilities.
Waste of taxpayers money 💰

This is an Olympic city without Olympics. It may sound off topic but I chanced on this cool translator that does everything and more of what a translator should have, name is Immersive Translate and one thing that can really help is it’s new feature, which lets you create a custom AI expert for translating anything. Thank me later, it's gold.
I have worked with Egyptians for 15+ years. They are a funny bunch!
we call them the ohio of the Middle East for a reason
The Olympics are such an astronomical waste of money, they should just rotate between a half dozen cities that are capable of accommodating the event without it seriously destroying or disrupting life for the residents.
Amazing Egypt ❤
5:54 Doubt. it looks like all the other toilet seat stadiums as of late. I see nothing about the Nefertiti crown in it.
Wow this is mind blowing

Everyone thinks that hosting the Olympics will transform their city, and they're right--but not usually for the better.
Brilliant. Go Egypt 🇪🇬
You've heard of a spec house...but have you heard about a spec city??!
China tried to build several. Tried. Several.
When you know you have to build it for the olympics, you know you’re wasting money unless the sports situation in the country is huge and popular. It’s mostly going to end up abandoned after the olympics as it happens in most countries.

This looks like exactly what the IOC has been trying to avoid since Rio: countries massively overspending their limited resources on unsustainable facilities that become embarrassing eyesores as soon as the games end. This being a disturbing ghost town even before winning a bid makes it even worse. I can't imagine they're going to want to encourage this kind of behavior
a lot of rich people are making a lot of money off this
Very underwhelming and unimaginative design for the main stadium. That could be anywhere in the world
The Egyptian military is in charge of building the New Administrative District and locally they have been criticized for wasting this relatively poor country's resources on luxuries for itself. Much of the sports complexes will be luxuries for the Egyptian military regardless of any Olympic Games.
Shhhhhhh 😸🐑🐑🐑🐑
I hope they host. This looks great!
All love from Egypt to anyone's watching ❤
There should be a permanent place to host the Olympics. Would save a lot of money, since every city hosting them looses money.
Even if they win, it will be a massive financial lost. A new record for the Olympics 😢
Good set for some kind of Mad Max post apocalyptic movie.
I think it would be good to have the olympics in Africa but id be pissed if it went to a countey depending on the IMF to keep the economy running, there are better things to spend that money on
Being honest - if not from this video all i would imagine Egypt as just a city with pyramids with a nail river flowing inside
Never knew they were building such an infrastructure😮
In 2022, Egypt was ranked seventh among the most obese countries with 21,670,640 obese people.

i thought that the rules for hosting has changed now, and you are meant to use existing infrastructure or temporary venues?
Yup.
Egypt will not be hosting the Olympics during our lifetime.
تعيش مصر 🇪🇬 🇪🇬🇪🇬🦅❤🇪🇬🇪🇬
In a poverty stricken country how do they ever expect to make any money off this?
The construction cost £50bn.
The leaders will be £20bn richer in a few years.
Sorted.
Im from a country where the top 1% of the citizens is equal to around 14 million thats insane right? Even Egypt’s top 1% is equal to 1-2 million people. When you have an upper class with population larger than the population of entire countries the government can easily make profit out of such projects even if the overall population is poor
@@kzcciynk
Egypt's 1% is the government and military.
@@kzcciynkHahaha it's because the 1% in Egypt is the political class and the army. Sicking value from society and laundering their gains through projects like this
Did you even watch the video? No country makes money off the Olympics.
There are chariot races still. They're called Chuckwagon Races, at the Calgary Stampede.
Mmmm…. But can they fund it though…
I hope this is sarcasm lol
Cause funding thru external debt isn't a case of (can) but (should).

Sustainability? Please …
It is a crime that the roofs of every one of those facilities are not absolutely covered in solar panels - at a bare minimum.
did you miss the part where they are spending $30 billion on nuclear energy
I did miss that part, thank you for pointing it out. That certainly answers the question, doesn’t it? I will just say that you can buy A LOT of solar panels and batteries for 30 billion dollars. With as much sunshine as that location gets … 🤔🤔🤔
They should make this the main spot for the Olympics and then offer to other countries every so often.
Oh I get it. “If you build it they will come.” 😂
The quote is actually “if you build it, *he will come.”

2:46 Correction: I think you’re referring to “Madrasa of Al Sultan Hassan” and not the Rifai Mosque. The Rifai Mosque was built next to the Madrasa and it’s not as technically impressive as the Madrasa. The Madrasa is the most impressive piece of architecture from the Mamluk Period and considered the best of Islamic architecture.
the mosque is not any less impressive
We Egyptians love Egypt and our president al sisi, well ✅👍🏻🥰
Considering the amount of corruption there, athletes would pay their way out of doping tests for $5
Looks pratty nice
insanity
Their biggest bid here is there is no other country in Africa will be able to compete with such Olympic city so their chance to win is really good if Africa became the destination for Olympic. But I would use that money for different projects that put people to work.
Cape Town are bidding for 2036/40
Problem is: the IMF and World Bank cannot afford Egypt to go bankrupt and the Egyptians know it. So they can borrow money and be (almost) assured they get loans afterloans to keep it afloat. And ignore the IMF/World Bank's recommendations.
*Egypt ruler realize they have infinite money cheat.
And why exactly the IMF and World Bank can't afford for Egypt to go bankrupt?
How do the Egyptians clear sand from the stadium roof? Egypt's sandstorms can be brutal.
