    ABOUT THE SHOW
    "The Sun'll Come Out Tomorrow" this holiday season as NBC has found its next live musical event: the beloved seven-time Tony Award-winning hit Annie Live!
    Annie Live! features Academy Award-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson as the musical's infamous queen of mean, Miss Hannigan. Henson will play opposite Celina Smith in the titular role of Annie. Already a triple threat at the age of 12, Smith was selected in a nationwide casting search.
    The holiday musical event also features Tituss Burgess as Rooster Hannigan, Megan Hilty as Lily St. Regis, Harry Connick Jr. as Daddy Warbucks, and Nicole Scherzinger as Grace.
    Robert Greenblatt will executive produce the telecast along with Neil Meron, who has served as executive producer on all of NBC's live musicals since 2013's The Sound of Music Live!, and most recently the Emmy Award-winning Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.
    The live event is being produced by Chloe Productions.

    She has a strong voice, definitely the Andrea McArdle or Lilla Crawford type versus the more cutesy versions of Annie.

      I think this version will stay true to the original. The 2014 film had a very contemporary feel to it (in both music and storyline), but that was intentional. And Celina Smith’s voice sounds like what you might hear in a Broadway musical.

    She doesn't have that Annie sound. She is a good singer but this material doesn't suit her voice. AND I would have preferred Queen Latifah, Octavia Spencer, Wanda Sykes or Andrea Mcardle as Miss Hannigan. ANY of them would have been a more interesting and inspired choice.

    • @lasumm

      Agree. Nice voice but not a musical theatre voice. She sounds very untrained with frequent issues with her breathing and technique.

    • @jixer1956
      @jixer1956 2 года назад +2

      What's the "Annie sound?" I think Annie suits Celina very well. Her voice is not as high pitched or cutesy as the typical Annie but she has a very solid technique and sounds better than many stage Annies I've heard. Maybe it's a little different from what you're used to but there's nothing wrong with that.

    • @jixer1956
      @jixer1956 2 года назад +1

      @@lasumm She was young Nala in the touring production of The Lion King. I don't hear any of the technical issues you claim. Am I deaf? Can you point out exactly when they occur? Celina sounds well trained and technically solid to me. The only thing I can say is that I heard little bit of strain at 0:32 on "lonely." See my comment above. Also, the version she sang at the thanksgiving parade is better than this one.

    • @tommiefremont
      @tommiefremont 2 года назад

      @@lasumm Obviously there have been casting directors who disagree with you. She has touring experience as Young Nala in the Lion King and she was chosen out of many to be Annie.

      @@jixer1956 the typical Annie sound is a little bit more musical theatre sounding in my opinion. That's what we are used to from Andrea McArdle and Lilla Crawford especially. Especially Lilla had a quite developed voice for her age which made her stand out significantly. I think a lot of people are comparing Celina to them which might not be fair but I think it'll happen to every Annie or to every iconic musical theatre roll really.

      Annie is not "supposed" to be anything, you racist. She's a fictional character who happens to traditionally be portrayed as white because white is always the default race for western film, theater, and literature unless otherwise specified by the plot. Annie's race has no relevance to the plot. The plot only requires that she be a girl around 11 years of age.
