Hi there 👋 I had such a wonderful time making chilaquiles and filming with Beryl. Silvia has done complete justice to sevai upma! I felt so happy to hear her thoughts and very grateful that she shared a part of her culture with me 😀. Love this show!
Pooja, thank you for sharing your recipe with me and for your kind words. I'm so happy you think I did justice to sevai upma. I really enjoyed it, and I'm planning on making it again. And the chilaquiles you made looked so yummy; I hope you had fun making them. It was so great seeing the finished video. A big hug!
@@Mamalatinatips 🤗♥️🤗 Absolutely was a ton of fun!
Chilaquiles are one of my favorites and I am looking forward to trying both dishes. So happy you had such a terrific experience with your shoots!
Kudos 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you to PBS and Beryl for the invitation. It was so much fun making Pooja's dish; I learned a lot about Indian food making this delicious breakfast. Pooja gave me many tips to make her recipe, which turned out delicious. I really enjoyed seeing Pooja making my chilaquiles.😋
Pairing Mexican and Indian was genius. They have so many surprising similarities. My grandmother is a picky vegetarian but has always enjoyed Mexican food.
Beryl said to big her up so we get season 2 and that's what I'm here for! Season two! Season 2!
Seriously, I do enjoy her content and this show does not disappoint!
I am *totally* psyched about Pan Pals. First of all, I love this idea…it’s absolutely brilliant. Secondly, Beryl is a total star. Everything she turns her hand to is fantastic-I’ve been a fan since Great Big Story, and I will follow her anywhere ❤. PBS, do not make the mistake of letting this show go: we need more of Pan Pals and especially more of Beryl!
Yes, this!
Completely agree!
This is so wonderful. Beryl makes such amazing content, and it's a delight to see her on PBS. I could watch a million Pan Pal episodes and never get bored.
This is the BEST show! I love the format of 2 people from 2 different cultures sharing foods! Beryl you are an expert at this. You need a regular show. I'd watch this on TV!! The world is ready for you!
Semiya upma and chilaquiles? What an amazing swap! The lemon noodle Indian dish is my wife's favorite Indian food. The curry leaves and fresh lemon are super important, my wife would say the peas are the best part. Chilaquiles with egg (mine a bit more saucy, less nacho-looking) is also so delicious.
I think the RUclips pic being the two lovely people with their dishes is a better choice than Beryl (and I love Beryl! These are amazing your filming and editing is so good!)
I loved this episode. Both meals looked so appealing. Both cooks were people I think I would enjoy meeting. These meals are definitely things I would eat for breakfast. Today I had a poached egg on batsmati rice (leftover) for breakfast.
Yay! A great duo. Thank you to PBS for giving Beryl a different platform for her food adventures. It's the humanity of preparing food, eating it & sharing it with others that I appreciate with Beryl's content. Fun, kindness, adventure & food. Go, Beryl, go!
I had my favorite Korean breakfast of rice, fried egg, and my homemade kimchi. So good and so filling. Kimchi is better than coffee to wake you up.
Congrations to Beryl and to PBS too 😊 This was uplifting to watch, as your work always is, Beryl! Silvia and Pooja - thank you for being your wonderful selves. I loved your enthusiasm and all your reflections too.
Thank you! We had so much fun!
Savory breakfasts for the win! Chilaquiles are heaven and I need to try the Sevai Upma. Up & up Beryl - your content is great!
Oh yum, chilaquiles! I love the crunch that the chips bring.
Thank you PBS and Beryl for pairing up for this show. I love Beryl’s RUclips channel where she does all kinds of foods from all over the world and each episode has a theme. While I’m not likely to visit any of these places or fix any of the food, I still love learning about how food brings us all together.
Pooja is so eager to try a new dish, I loved her reactions!
And Sylvia is the same way!
Now I really want to try sevai upma! this show is so great, I really love it a lot, haven't had a bad episode yet! I love when Beryl keeps popping in to try the dishes, it's so adorable!
My Mexican (Jalisco) family makes chilaquiles so differently, not sure if it's a regional thing or just us. They're not usually crunchy, it's like a cake because you can slice it. We use the same sauce as is used to make enchiladas but we also use "salsa de pato" when in a hurry.
Same here. but this still looks good. I would add an extra serrano chile :)
the thing with traditional dishes is oft, that every region and family has their entirely own take on it ^^
@@SarahLynn__ Sorry, I don't know how to write in Spanish but I can read it. I live in the US. I believe the sliceable chilaquiles is just a family tradition. Think it started (most likely by Grandfather) as an easy way to get in a lot of filling calories as cheaply and as transportable as possible. My maternal grandfather was a Bracero so was in the States alone for a few years. He had some interesting recipes like potatoes & scrambled eggs over white rice scooped up with a tortilla. I just mentioned Jalisco as a point of reference where some of the elements to our traditional familial foods might originate.
This is my recipe and I had adjusted it since I moved to the US. My family in Mexico makes them a little bit differently, they add the tortillas to the sauce so they are a little dryer and very soft. I love the crunchiness of the fried tortillas. I love them so much that I made this chilaquiles recipe the very first day of the first season of the Great American Recipe. 🥰
Another great episode! I love this concept of people sharing each others cultures through food. Please make a season 2 PBS. Beryl is a gem and does such a fabulous job!
Finally! Breakfast I want to eat!!! Thanks Ladies!
I usually want something I can put hot sauce on for breakfast. Great episode!
like a good Huevos rancheros? yum!
I live in Sri Lanka and this morning I had a quick breakfast at my friends' house: gently re-heated leftover rice with water buffalo curd (think: plain Greek style yogurt) with a small bit of lime pickle on the side. Eaten with the hand of course. Delicious! A very common breakfast here in Sri Lanka and in South India as well.
sounds amazing!!!
What a great and original show! I would love to see another season of this 😉
Mexican and Indian cuisine are simply perfect for each other.
Thank you for this new series. Please do more breakfast from different cultures.
This video is the perfect pick me up in the middle of the week! This series rocks! All I had for breakfast today was buttered toast. I am clearly missing out!
Watching this while eating my breakfast is the BIGGEST vibe!!!
I actually watched this while eating my breakfast yogurt bowl. 😊 I love learning about breakfasts from different cultures. Definitely not typical diner fare.
Mexican and Indian are some of my favorite cuisines, so seeing them spotlighted and exchanging themselves with each other is awesome.
Lovely! I hope Silvia finds many good uses for that beautiful bag of curry leaves ❤❤
I had eggs and toast this morning but I put sambal olek on my eggs for a bit of spice, delicious! Speaking of eggs, the last plate of chilequiles I had at a restaurant had eggs on top of the chips and sauce. Also, the chips were fully coated with sauce rather than served like nachos. I think I'd prefer that latter. Fewer soppy chips!
such a great series, Beryl! more, please!!!
I love her way of peeling the avocado.
OMG Beryl, this is my new favorite show! Being from Mexico and loving Indian food so much I clicked faster than faster lol #BerylShereshewsky #PBSFood #PenPals
These women are both such a delight and I love how they were so keen to learn from each other and so grateful and respectful
Thank you, PBS, for bringing Beryl to your channel. A 2nd season of this series would be something I would forward to.
This series is pure magic. Please keep it going for as long as possible!
I absolutely love this series! Look forward to every episode, so heart warming and exactly what the internet needs :)
Love this series! So glad to see more content from Beryl on different channels
I am loving this series! It's such a great concept, and Beryl is the perfect person to execute it.
Really loving this series. Thanks Beryl and PBS!
Both dishes look delicious! I'm getting hungry just watching this.
Beryl Congratulations on your first pbs filming!! It was terrific. I hope you have huge success with this project!
I totally agree that learning about another culture is best through FOOD! It is so exciting and tasty too. YUM. Please. keep this show going.
Love it! I love seeing what other cultures eat for breakfast.
This showcased the best parts of enjoying food: wholesomeness, culture, and love! Thank you for making this Beryl! I want a pan pal!
For breakfast today, I had a whole-grain English muffin topped with peanut butter, blackberries, apple, and cinnamon 😍
Such a cool idea! This gonna be my new favorite show
I feel like this was the most joyful episode so far :). Great job, as always!
I absolutely love Pan Pals, and I need PBS to hear that!!
Love this series 😃
I am definitely making both these recipes! Yum!!!
I try not to break my fast until around noon, I always have savoury, today was smoky lardons sauted with pearl barley, green peas, lentil sprouts and seared lettuce with a side of dill pickles and rye crispbreads.
I wish we had time to go home for a cooked lunch in the US
@@LindaC616 I'm retired.
@janesalisbury3686 lucky, then! I tried it one summer, since I didn't want to be cranky/lethargic when teaching ( not a job where you can have a late breakfast at your desk). In the end, I didn't lose anything more than 5 lb that month, and had a lot of wasted mornings
This was such a great show ❤❤ i hope we'll get more in the futute!
I have watched all of the Pan Pals episodes - and subscribed! Excellent and entertaining as always Beryl! Yes to Season 2 please 🙂
Such an awesome concept. ❤ Beryl's RUclips vids so very good to see her on PBS.
Loving pan pals! Such a wonderful idea and i love that everyone on the show has been so respectful of the other culture and done such a wonderful job with the cooking!
Kudos to the entire team for executing this so well! 😊
LOVE this series! Growing up in Southern California, I was exposed to Mexican and Indian food, now to see both cultures and their similarities being showcased makes me SO happy! Hiring @BerylShereshewsky was the best decision @PBSfood could have made. She brings a joy and enthusiasm that is infectious. Fingers crossed for a season 2!
Yay! I love your work Beryl. Thank you for introducing me to new cultures, recipes, and people with love and kindness.
This is a really genious idea to make share, two different cultures, authentic recipes! And let the viewers share the experience, and the possibility to make it too! Both look so good! I'm from Montreal, so here, as a huge multicultural meltpot, we have easy acces to restaurents, supermarkets etc...than reflect this. We are eating daily, food around the world in my house for gens... and it's always an happy thing, to learn more! Multiculturalism is part of our life and bring so much colors! I could not imagine my life without it! (P.S: As a french quebecois, i'm happy to see Beryl have this little show on PBS! She deserve it! She seem to be so much empathic and an open mind person, she's the right one for a show like this! Her smile just light up my day!)
I'm Irish and one of my favourite breakfasts is toast with eggs and Indian garlic pickle. Garlic pickle just goes perfectly with eggs but sometimes I mix it into a bit of pasatta to temper the spice level. And I change up the way I do the eggs either poached or fried or scrambled. And sometimes I add extra veggies if I'm feeling it. Its a very satisfying meal.
Love this series!!! Send us more 👏
i learned to make chilaquiles from a lady in mexico and she served hers fully loaded. she actually would toss the chips with the salsa right before serving. then top with queso fresco, chorizo, crema, chopped onion and cilantro, and then put some refried beans on the side. now that’s a great way to start your day. also, her salsa had guajillo chile and chile de arbol. it makes it much smokier and so delicious
Love these videos, hope there's a second season
I dislike so many traditional American breakfast foods, and even the ones I do like, I don't usually want at breakfast time (OMG, so much sugar! so much salt!), so I'm always happy to explore breakfasts from other cultures. Generally I have dinner leftovers for breakfast or just have a slightly early lunch, but both of these dishes sound like things I would enjoy a lot even first thing in the morning!
Just don't add so much salt, or buy non-sugary cereals, such as Cherrios, Shredded wheat, or make steel cut oats, and add maple syrup and fruit to it. It's amazing to try foods from different cultures, as it can be so eye opening, but I'm always going to love going to the diner up the street for their breakfast special of sausages, hashbrowns, rye toast, and 2 eggs, over medium. In fact, I'm going to call my neighbour, and see if he wants to go tomorrow morning, lol!
Pretty much the same, though with germany. Bread or sugary cereal... Yeah no, I do not feel like eating that.
What I really like are:
1 nargesi(eggs poached in leafy greens and citrus juice)
2 kuku a very very herby quishe or tortilla typ dish
3 egg flower soup if I do not feel like eating, with mint or mushrooms
4 ginger fried rice if I feel like I need especially energy
5 black sesame porridge for special occasions
6 Overnight oats with carrots or zucchini if Its warm outside and I do not have much time
7 Potato kugel
8 pureed soups
9 scrambled eggs with mushrooms when with my best friend
10 arepas if I have a bit more time
11 Vietnamese pizza (even though I only can eat some of the ingredients)
12 Buckwheat pancakes with little sugar and fruit instead of syrup as a special treat
13 millet or Buckwheat porridges with spices, fruit and sneaky vegetables
14 pan-fried plantains when I want something rather sweet and fast
15 left over curry, or fried rice dishes
16 left over colcannon(mashed potato's with cabbage and leeks) reheated in a pan
17 (coconut) milk rice variants from all over the world in not that sweet interpretations(lemongras and pandan, cinnamon and lemon zest, rosewater and cardamom) as a special treat
18 chickpea flour omelette if I want something more savory and hearty
19 left over potato's slow panfried
20 potato wedges with thyme and whole cumin seeds
21 falafel if I prepared the dough the day before and then bake them in the morning in the oven
I have no clear preference as long as it does not swim in oil or sugar, some protein and vegetable or fruit is always good and usually I prefer eating warm in the morning, or something that used to be warm, even in summer.
@@louisejohnson6057 . . . good luck in taking salt out of bacon and pre made sausages and deli meats . . . . some things one can deescalate well, lie replacing cereal with steel cut oats or millet porridge or something, buts thats not traditional american any more. Pancakes made from buckweat and with some fruit instead of syupe are great now and again, but also not traditionally american and neither gets you the same sense of a compleat meal you get from a japanese, indian or corean breakfast where you get carb protein and vegetables without it being heavy. to each their own, but to everyone who does not like the traditional american stuff, other cultures can absolutly safe breakfast for them
@@SingingSealRiana I'd argue one could make a new traditional american breakfast by making it healthier just like you described. Maybe that isn't good enough? In either a nutritional or a cultural sense, I mean both.
@@SingingSealRianabuckwheat pancakes and steel cut oats are more common in the US these days than you know
I love Pan Pals! Hope to see more episodes from Beryl! :D
A Mexican friend took her sister to an Indian restaurant. Sis was skeptical. Then she tasted it, and the flavor profile hit. First words out of her mouth were "It's like home but better."
Pan Pals is the best show! I love every episode! It is so positive and I want to try every dish....especially these two dishes!!!
love this series and Beryl as a host is a lovely bonus 🥰 i hope we get more seasons!
Oh man these look delicious! Definitely trying these for breakfast in the near future
The Indian breakfast reminded me of a Mexican side dish--Sopa Seca de Fideo.
That’s exactly what I said when I saw the bag with the vermicelli before preparing the dish.
Nobody brings people, cultures together with food like Beryl. PBS, I hope you know you've got a winning formula here!
So glad there are more episodes!!!
I love savoury breakfasts and want to brave enough to try these!
I have been meaning to comment on Beryls channel and I'm sure I will soon but being an almost lifetime vegetarian, how many dishes she includes that I can actually partake in! Kudos!
I love to make chilequiles for breakfast. I love the green ones. I will absolutely eat the red ones if they are served. When I make chilequiles, I make them soupy. A lot of people make them dry.
Another great episode! Keep them coming! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Subscribed to this channel only for this show! Loving it so much!
I had peanut butter and marmite on grainy toast for breakfast. I eat that 4-5x/week
Whew! Sort-of-nachos for breakfast? Gotta try it!
Love this series!
Love these ladies and the recipes. Both made me hungry. X mom❤️
love this show. would love more episodes!!!!
This show just warms my heart ❤ Seeing people of different cultures connect through food is just amazing!
P.S. Beryl, you are awesome 💯
What a great video and amazing recipes! I can't wait to try them both!
I learned to love chilequiles when I lived in Mexico. I especially like salsa verde because I love tomatillos.
I really like Indian food, so I am looking forward to trying sevai upma.
I need to make both of those! I had a North Carolina tomato sandwich for breakfast, simple and delicious!
Breakfast today: Hash brown potatoes, scrambled eggs with cubed ham & a little sprinkle of shredded cheese, fresh tomatoes, whole grain rye toast with butter, iced cafe au lait. All homemade in Brooklyn NY.
These are fabulous! Beryl, you’re an amazing matchmaker!!! …no egg on the chilaquiles? 🤯
Pooja is vegetarian so we skip them. But my original recipe has sunny side eggs 😋
@@Mamalatinatips Ahhhhh, now I get it. 🤣
Can't wait to see the next episode!! Beryl is so adventurous when it comes to food😀
I love having toast with jam and brie for a breakfast splurge! My usual breakfast is cereal, or a bagel with Neufchâtel cheese, cucumber, and a little garlic salt.
Love that I am seeing what other countries have for breakfast. Great video. I am from uk will I be able to see the show where? I loved PBS when I lived in the states. ❤
I really love this series
I had marmite on toast and fairy bread for breakfast, so two very typical New Zealand foods (but probably not normal eating fairy bread fpr breakfast haha!), loved watching this and really want to try the sevai upma!
this is such a great series to learn about different culture and to encourage people to try something out of their comfort zone.
pbs: bring beryl back for season 2!
Loooove this series!!
You can easily bake the chips. spray lightly with oil and bake at about 375F for about 10 minutes---flip halfway. Just till brown enough to you. Great if you have issues with ingesting fats.
I love making chilaquiles for breakfast! I usually cheat and use pre made tortilla chips and instead of salsa i like to use an enchilada type sauce. Top them with a fried egg and green onions, so good!
This series is so sweet
Everyday I have cereals with milk and cocoa. Several serves. I was hoping to get inspired to gert something better but at least this was entertaining and wholesome to watch. Thank you.
