Being highly informed on a subject is one thing...but being able to relay that information in a fashion the average layman can understand is a HUGE other thing. You have both and that makes you a master at teaching. What a rare gift. I don't nor ever have had a diesel engine, but have always had a deep curiosity about them. You are a great instructor.
+johnnyohness Thank you, I'm surprised how many people that don't own these engines watch videos about them. Thanks for watching them.
you probably dont care at all but does someone know a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb forgot the login password. I would love any tips you can give me!
@Myles Zayd Instablaster :)
@Aron Jaxxon Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Aron Jaxxon it worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you really help me out!
I don’t even own a Cat. I own a Series 60 but I do appreciate the time & effort that goes into making these videos. Thanks again.
Dude, thank you so very much. You are a true blessing from the creator of heaven and earth. I have little to no experience in working on diesel engines except for oil changes and filter changes and I just did exactly as your video said to do the whole overhead adjustment along with a new injector, thank you so very much. I pray that YAHUAH God blessed your life with much abundance
One important point you forgot to mention is
"cold settings", meaning run the overhead when the engine is completely cool, room temperature, not after you ran all day and want to get it done so you can have the weekend off,, you know what I mean,,
Thanks for all the great videos, people would save a lot of money by subscribing to your channel, and if a tool cost a hundred dollars just buy it,, you'll pay more than that to pay somebody to do the job and you have the tool forever, that's a no-brainer to me
Thanks again, you saved me thousands with all the information you give out
Spot on!👊🏻🇺🇸
I loved doing ‘06E/C15 tune ups for side work. So quick and easy. 30-45 minutes of work, $150 cash in the pocket.
Hey Josh, thanks for all the info. I just had my overhead run by a mechanic. I trust him, but there is a slight vibration now.
I think im going to run it myself. I have less experience but I care more.
This video is very thorough and I feel confident.
Thanks again.
Your knowledge and dedication to great instruction is highly appreciated, I have never encountered another master mechanic with your ability to teach. Thank you 👍🏻
blow him already holy
I really appreciate it. and I'll definitely B messaging you again with the results thanks again!
Awesome vid, I don't work on diesels just run them. Nice to get a better understanding on how they work. Cheers
+STEVE ROB Thank you very much.
As a mechanic knowing how something works is the key. Steve you might have mechanic in your blood lol .
Billy Adams Haha well I have a good understanding of gas engines but diesel has always interested me , I have 3 diesels and they never break. My farm tractor might break down one day and I like to have a clue what I'm doing. 30 years at GM building trucks just don't cut it. LOL
Great video! I performed my overhead last weekend. Big improvement in performance, it had been a while.
I’m doing mine this weekend. It’ll be a first time for me.
I did the overhead on my truck 3406e 1lw by my own by watching your video... it went good I think... it was a year ago
Had to do this today at school and ur video helped alot thank u 💪🏾

I did the overhead adjust on my 3406E thanks to this video...
You are awesome I watch every single video u post...

Thank you for the explanation on this. I'd also like to have the same information on a 4 cylinder if possible
thanks for the reply and I'll try that thank you
very informative, thank you, I appreciate the information greatly,
Thank you for your Good Information im really appreciated to teach our mechanics im watching from Saudi Arabia and God Bless you
Great job on all your posts
thanks for your great teaching of this technical work,i did my overhead on my 3406e thanks to you.
+Filemon Nunez Thanks for watching.
Another great video. I ve been waiting on this topic too. I did my overhead adjustments on my 2WS but it seems to have been running rough lately. I ll follow your technique in doing the overhead this time. Thanks again for your videos and will contribute to you making more videos.
Thanks for the comment. A 2WS should be very similar as the engine in this video. Hope you have success. Inspect your camshaft too while you have the valve covers off if you have a rough running engine.
@@AdeptApe How often should this be done?
@@Alex0992 I was told that a valve set should be done at least every 1200 engine hours My company truck is a 6nz c15
@@AdeptApe Hey Adept. I am here in Washington somewhat close to you. I have a 06 379 with the compound turbo set up c15. Boost has been low 30-32 and today wouldnt get over 25 psi. It is suppose to be set to a 550hp. My father has had the truck for 9 years now and the overhead has not been done. Can that be causing these issues?
Thank you for the video. It was very clear. I appreciate it.
To a mechanically inclined person like myself, this video was way over explained 😂 but you did a great job of explaining it to a first time mechanic 👍👏👏
I had a friend of mine make me a barring tool for turning the flywheel it works quite well, and all it cost me was the steel.
Great knowledge give us by you boss more thankful ur every word
About to install a new head on a MXS C15. I have the CAT Service Manual, but you are the "CAT Man" in my book and it's great to have you as a resource! Thanks a ton for your channel! (and thanks for the IVA info at the end there)
Glad you like the videos and information.
Thank's for your job, you make for many people life easier.
Thank you very much very practical for me that video
I need to know the bolts torque to valve cover base for C15 MXS
Thank you very much for this video im learning alot from u keep up the good work thamks again
Thanks for your reply , yes I meant by overhead adjustments I just got is done at toromount Cat and I doubt they did not took 3rd cover out did not open the screws for one under breather air hose close to firewall., I am sure for that and if it had to open and i am going to talk with them, why
Thanks, gave me the confidence to do the adjustment on my NXS. Please keep making these great videos.
Thanks Jerry, really appreciate. You can always email me at AdeptApe@yahoo.com as well. Have a great day.
Hats off , I watched the video and read comments, and found answer to my problem.. c-15 mxs oil pressure runs from 40 psi to 60 psi depending on RPM 1200 = 40 psi 190degree temp each 100 rpm increase 5 psi in oil pressure It's Kenworth 06. I need oil pump or something else , i ask CAT dealer at last service they said CAT has no set oil PSI could be anywhere 40 to 80 psi but when i found concept u showed main bearings then question is why my oil psi is changing according to RPMs and engine temp , NO Contamination oil sample is good.. please advise
Wow. This is the best. Made it so even a newbie can figure it out.
Thanks for the much needed information
+Fred Fabian You are welcome sir.
really nice video real good info i was scrolling thru videos and adept ape came out and so far im really liking your content real good videos i was wondering if you had one where you show how to set the back lash on the cam timing gear and the idler gear? thanks hope to hear back from you
+Hector Lopez It will be getting made, most likely on the next C15 rebuild.
Great thanks I was concerned about the wiring for the throttle, cruise dash panel etc. I plan of finding a used rv one
+2010panel The wiring for all the RV inputs run into your P1 connector going to the ECM, so it should connect right to the ECM. Some parameters might have to be programmed, but the wiring shouldn't change.
Just bought my first truck, Pete with a 6nz, two weeks later had an injector go. I've got a good bit of mechanical knowledge but your videos helped me keep the truck on the road. Appreciate you sharing the specs and procedures!
+Edward Gorsegner Glad the videos helped. Thanks for watching.
thank you for these great videos
started following you .
i have a freightliner century.
c15 mxs. 13 speed
school me on why should we do this? also i have a cat shop in brownstown michigan. right where i park my truck and i been wanting to give them a shout.
i have 840,000 miles. owned it since low 600,000 miles.
replaced radiator, water pump, thermostat
replaced. wear n tear items like shocks, tires brakes.
Amazing video. Keep an coming
I have a 92 3406c Peep engine. I would find it quite informative if you would include this engine in one of your videos. I find all your videos very informative. Thanks
Good demonstration. Thanks you for your presentation
Awesome video, great info if someone knows what there looking for!
Thanks and keep up. doing good job.
Thanks for ur great informational vids
Thank you very much sir ape for your information.. About overhead adjustment.... God blezz to your family...
perfect thank you
Good video, my pinning hole was wobbled out, I asked a few guys about that and they figured someone started it with the pinning tool or bolt in it after the adjusted it, so I took the timing cover off because it could be off a tooth on either side, I always get the fun ones lol
That sucks, we had an apprentice so that a couple weeks ago. Luckily the bolt didn't break, it bent the pinning bolt into an S shape, but it came out with no damage to the engine.
@@AdeptApe talk about getting lucky ! Oh the crazy things a guy runs into working on cars to trucks to heavy equipment. Things that make you go grrrr.
Tanks for the info... your the best
I have injector height tool, but find it more accurate to put injector at full downward plunge then adjust injector needle to bottom out and back off 3/4 turn, on detroit 60. I do this because I'm concerned about differences in the block and compression of the bottom graphite gasket carbon sealer, and injectors
Just did my first valve set on a 6nz our shop just rebuilt... Completely different from a Cummins valve set eh..

Injectors clearance. I personal watch
A video very carefully. My additional personal experience in in this day.

A lot of great videos you have! This one is not an exception. I own an 05'KW acert C-15 engine & I never did a valve adjustment on mine. It has almost one million miles on it. One of the reasons I didn't do it because it's hard to find a great cat mechanic. Where is your truck shop located at? I would like so much to have you look at my engine & help me keep it alive for as much as possible. Thank you much!
+Max V I don't disclose where I work at I'm sorry. I am on the West Coast though so maybe you'll find me on accident.
We are all good! No problem.
@@AdeptApe you wouldn't happen to have a used injector/Jake harness and a couple of the retainers n bolts for solenoids for a 1999 3406e 2ws engine by chance? If so maybe a driver could by it fairly respectable
I had my jack leaking oil up ward so is that repaired or I have to change newer? Please reply. Thanks for your all Best video's
Thank you sir
Awesome. Thanks
excellent info
What about adjusting on SDP engines ?
I have a bxs that keeps sending the low oil pressure code I have replaced the iva and the updated plug for solenoid but still the same. Any more ideas. I dont see any leaks while engine is running and valve covers are off
What a great video!!
I like your video very good
I need explain for this firing oder 142635 please
Great thanks
Thank you
Good. And thanks for th informations
Wanting to do a valve adjustment on a 3208 in my rv... diesel pusher. Do I need to pin the fuel pump? And since engine is backwards, how do I find number 1 cylinder? Thanks for your help. . Chris
Haha, my CAT 15 is a Flathead, 1930.

Great job.
Tnx you my friend for your video
Thank you malem
one of the best tutorials
+Agui Amiour Thank you.
Thank you for the video, as a fellow cat employee this really helped me out!
I found the injector height tool and the turning tool on Amazon. 24 bucks and it came with both tools
Nice video my friend, God blessed you very much
Hey so I just installed a camshaft on a c-15 6nz … just wondering when I install my rocker shafts and injectors and set the clearances do I set it for compression stroke on #1 when my camshaft gear is lined up with the timing mark ??
You The Man( Awesome Cool Video)
Thank you!
This is perfect! Can you do a C-12? Just got my first CAT😎 (Might make a C-16 my next one lol)
Thanks Legend!
Adept Ape, on a C15 with VVA’s, going to make a timing pin. Is it a 5/16” bolt or 3/8” bolt and how long? See where some say the longer bolt from the barring tool plate is used. Do I need to cut the threads off as well? Thanks
bro plz tell me is we adjust f8 teppet ? in mazda petrol engine
👍
good thanks.
Awesome video.
+Charles James Thank you.
What oil temperature should a 3406 or C15 read ? I changed from analog to digital and the digital and its showing a higher temperature
Thanks for your videos .After watching your videos I was able to fix code 93 on my c-15.just wondering if you can make a video on replacing rod bearings.I know is not to difficult but will feel more comfortable watching a video from a pro.and look forward for my donation
+Jaime Garcia I'll try to get one out about the rod bearings, but the videos are dependent on what I'm working on at the time. Thanks for the donations and kind words.
Good job on the video...
Thanks sir very appreciate
Thanks for the info. I work on natural gas engines and compressors slow speed cooper v250 and sometimes high speeds Waukesha 9390 7044 7042 etc . Really interested in going into Diesel engines maybe one day I'll get the chance .
+Billy Adams Does Waukesha still make engines? I've only seen old ones.
+Adept Ape yes sir the ones I work on are 98% referb from Exterran Reagan etc
+Adept Ape where are you from man
+Billy Adams Well I live on the West Coast, but I like to keep my exact location somewhat incognito, as I'm not sure if my company would like me making these videos or not.
+Adept Ape I can respect that well thank you for the videos man I'm always wanting new knowledge your videos are very easy to understand
Sir do we set each Jack with setting of each exhaust valve?
thanks. Can you please give me some advise with a 3508 B-DITA-SCAC (760KW) regarding valve and injector adjustment which one I can adjust after pin the engine in TDC Cyl.1 and after pin when turning 360 degrees Cyl.8? Best regards and thanks in advance for your support.
your very good help bro. Keep it up!!!
would this work for a c13 as well?
+anthony alvarez The principles are the same however on a C13 you need to check for what the Jake's and valve adjustment if I remember right the intake and exhaust are 15/25 and there is no injector height tool, you just take the adjuster until it contacts then 1/2 turn more, then set the locknut.
Any significant difference to doing an overhead adjustment on a C13? Our 2006 Country Coach Intrigue motorhome has a C13 w/120,000 miles. Wondering if we should do an overhead?
Its verry good explaination i really like it..
Great video I'm rebuilding the head of my 2010 Volvo d11 maybe you could help I need the cam torque specs my other is on the cam balancer it won't let me adjusted to gap 10 with a filler gauge thanks
Hi adept ape small question does the overhead needs complete adjustment after replacement of my head including the injectors as the mechanic is only adjusting the valves and says injectors don't need to be adjusted as they have not been replaced what do you say?
Awesome video how long does that job usually take on like a 1989 34 0 6 b?
Thanks for a Great Video!., In my case I am looking at a 300,000 mile overhead re-set to be done after a engine rebuild., but is't there a inspection done on all the overhead springs before starting the task of performing the overhead?., Also in my case I have weak jakes on my MBN C-15 and frankly not sure if it's an adjustment issue or a broken jake spring?.,
hi bro I have a question i going to put a new camshaft on my c15 but freightliner give me a different # that what I got my # is 139-0538
and they give me a 3327307 they said is those two # are for the same motor . what you thing?
Great videos, i have watched quite a number of your videos on injector replacements. I run a marine cat 3508B marine engine and i desire to service the injectors. I want to know if really the process is the same and can the injectors be serviced, the O rings replaced or simply replaced for new ones?
+Richmond Roger - Beckley I used to work in Power Generation which used the 3500 series engine. The C15 and 3500 series use a similar EUI design which has the camshaft supplying the force for the injector spring and then the ECM firing it. On the 3500A models they used a rack design, but if yours is a B model I believe they used the electronic design. You have to remove the rocker arm assembly then remove the injector, clean the cylinder of fuel, then install the new injector or reseal it. If you have seen my C15 injector video it is similar, just your engine has larger parts. Setting the injector height as well needs a special tool, which is different than the C15.
Wow this is a relief and great to receive from you so fast. Can you make some recommendations of tool I need to purchase before opening up the head and is there available to purchase the repair kit for the injectors?. My model number is 250-1306. How different is this from that of the C15
And yes the 3508B is fully electronic thx
The disassembly and reassembly doesn't really have any special tooling needed, but for the injector height there is. I would recommend going to the CAT dealer for a parts breakdown and they should be able to tell you the injector height tooling, you can pull the valve cover easily and see for yourself.
Ok thx man I am most grateful for your assistance
Yes and thanks for the help.I'm struggling to remove that base cause of the Iva's housing it's completely loose oil bridges and oil supply line just can't pull it out and I don't want to remove Iva's housing because I read some where I can loose the rods on the iva's falling into the engine.any advice?
+Jaime Garcia Well if you have the oil line and bridges off it should come off. Maybe a dumb question, but have you disconnected the injector wiring from the injectors? The IVA housings are fairly easy to remove, there are no little rods in the housings just a bolt and six nuts. They may be referring to the solenoid Torx bolts, but you don't have to remove them to get the housings off. Maybe just pull the housing off for cylinders 1&2 to make it clear. Wish I was there to help out.
