Sound clash as it is today is a total gimmicks thing. Playing a dub plate for 10 or 15 seconds using a laptop does nothing for me personally and this has resulted in sorry demise of sound system culture in general. The whole concept or idea of 2, 3 or 4 so called sound systems playing on a public address system is total BS. A sound system consists of your own amps/ boxes / etc which you tune up yourself to make your own sound unique, no short cuts. So far as I am concerned the public have been conned into thinking that this dub plate ting is good. Trophies and plaques are definitely a tiny side issue and should be given after say 10 years or more of consistent quality work , not after a few dances. Look at the veteran old school sound like King Sturgay.... Uroy (RIP) did not care about trophies, all he cared about was to deliver great quality rub a dub entertainment to the public anywhere in the world and Im so glad that I got to see/hear Uroy, Josey and Charlie at work on Sturgav back in the day. The real love of reggae music has been lost and many in this generation have a business first approach to reggae which is why the general quality of the music has gone down not up.. The reggae records from my era (late 70/ 80s) can sell right now for a lot of money because of the quality and love that was put into the music with real instruments.

Preach Chin! Trophy have nothing to do with soundclash slowing down (and no it's not dead or dying). Irish and Chin clashes was the premium standard for sound clash events for well over a decade easy. Structured...nice venues...clash start on time with a solid lineup. Anybody who say trophy is cause them never win one....lol. I&C could've done perhaps a better job at promoting up and coming sounds a bit more instead of taking the safer route of bigger sounds on a lineup but I understand the need as a promoters need to draw in bigger crowds. Lack of entertaining sounds along with lack of creativity with a mix of a pandemic is what's slowing things down a bit. It will rebound as it always has for the last 30+ years.

Chin me rate you but you’re wrong on this one. The UK Cup Clash did it before you, no disrespect but come on, that was huge and monumental. Remember Saxon, Afrique, BodyGuard and Coxanne in the UK 1992. Then Saxon, BodyGuard, King Addies and Kebra Negus who is the only sound to play Dennis Brown, Garnet Silk and Beres Hammondin combination to date. I wanna call in bro. However I would say Irish and Chin was the most consistent, very entertaining and they made some sounds a household name.

I would NEVER deny that there were events called World Clash before the Irish and Chin series. However please admit that NONE! Of those events carried the RESPECT like our WC SERIES. In fact, the format used in the world clash events prior, did not go on to redefine sound clash entertainment!! Soooo it's WRONG to compare them. Being the first will NEVER out weigh being the BEST!! The Irishandchin series is the long reining series in the history of sound clash. Facts !!!!

Firstly, I said it was the first big sound clash with sounds from around the world. Secondly they had sounds from around the world battling over a cup. Thirdly it was the first to use that format with rules and a cup. I was there and can confirm there were thousands of people in attendance. Fourth, I did not and would not disrespect the Irish and Chin Brand, in fact I bigged it up (check my last sentence) but fifth and final, it was called the UK Cup Clash, as I stated from the get go but, the format was the "original" like Gregory Issacs would say. Don't be mad at me I'm just stating the "facts" as you say lol.

It takes away momentum and give another sound time to recover. Man I can go on and on. Then you have these selectors thinking they are being artist and star bia on stage..

Agree with 95% No trophies DID NOT help kill sound clash. It was a great move to award sound systems. Structure is and was necessary. The main issue is how the trophies were awarded. Thats a whole issue within itself but at the end of the day the trophies are mainly for the sounds and people close to it because most people who follow sounds can't tell you which trophies they won outside of World Clash. If we gonna do a top 5 reason why clash dead list honestly this wouldn't even be close to entering. So many other major factors at play. This is cannon fodder 😂

@@ninjathagreat8335 it’s easy to blame the new generation but whose fault is it that they don’t know where sound clash is coming from? When a young sound tries to get into the business and learn it the older sounds turn them back pon dem and treat them like their nothing because like u just said they don’t know the history. On top of that if u want the culture to grow u have to let go of biltmore. If people kept the attitude that u have then all the contributors would mean nothing because the sound clash would be no longer existing.

Trophies commercialized the business. Watered it down, took away the rugged feel of dancehall and clash. I say this because I remember the days when a dance will turn into a clash ( just play the wrong tune or buss the wrong argument lol). When the trophy error began many selectors felt like if a trophy isn’t involved I’m not clashing. Hence as you stated in part 1 about selectors and artist wanting big money to clash and cut dubs. Years ago they did it for the culture. I remember hearing Matterhorn in his prime for a $5 at a round robin. (Thursday night) yes $5! And many other selectors and artist nights after. Unfortunately clash falls under the same umbrella as dancehall reggae and hip hop today.. #DEAD

No younger eager youth wanted to grab the torch to be promoters. Every flyer, billboard have the same promotion names on it.. Also the music change too. The Artist aren’t build up the same. There are multiple things that "killed" soundclash. Trophies is a minor part. Not every sound should get rewarded with a trophy. Out of respect my team rewards a winning sound with a trophy for the work they did during the clash to win the clash. Now what the sound decides to do after the clash is on them. Do they elevate themselves and go look a next war with w more established sound? Try and clash outside of the area where they come from??? Promoters can assist but if the sounds or sound owners don't see the vision or charge crazy prices.....Keep in mind there are not a lot of sound clash promoters

Sound quality is often poor on dubs. Sounds are not using their own soundsystem in clashes (in general). Look at battle rapping, it's just a small genre in hiphop now and clash fans are not growing in numbers. There is a big warning sign for the industry. We need to promote soundsystems that actually sound good in this modern era of sound. Respect to every sound that mixing and mastering their dubs like a real 45.

The event was held at a place called Cinema 2 and the four sound systems that participated were King Jammys, Black Scorpio, Youthman Promotion and Black Star. A lot of people never knew Sting started from sound systems competing against each other. Every artist had to represent their own sound system live.

And too many trophy given out to people diluted the value of the worthy trophy now so that everyone has a trophy and if you don't have one buy your own and now you got a trophy. So playing hard or winning a dance fair and square doesn't matter just want the trophy to brag how good your sound is

I think that declaring an outright winner with a trophy kills the debate and mystique that the early 90s clashes had ... the debates among your boys about who won certain clashes are what kept the mystique of those sounds alive till today ... who won addies/jaro or even addies/LP (94)? Those live forever because while you say one sound won... we can spark a hours long debate in certain forums on why he other sound took it... in this digital era we SHOULD have ample opportunities for epic soundclashes among all the new sounds to build rivialries ... but no one wants to take the loss ... everyone just wants the “trophy” but no one wants to really war “anywhere anytime” when I heard chin interview puma it was inspiring to hear him say he would war with everyone ... sure he took some L’s but they would always bounce back etc... today one sound beat another sound they never wanna face them again... but just having a war with no rules and hearing the audio and letting the debate live on forever ... builds anticipation for a rematch .. maybe in another city ... maybe another country ... build a demand for it!

Lack of loyalty and greed killed sound clash as we know it. Before an artist would give certain sounds a special and no other sound could get that dub no matter how much money a next sound want pay. Now every sound have the same tune...no exclusivity. Lack of Creativity also assist in creating the void as well. Selector dem dunce bad and cannot cut tune. Pure man pack up Inna sound clash and no woman help kill it too. Before man used to carry dem woman come a dance nuh matter if a clash or not. Now a pure man a forward Inna dance and a hog down video light. We all have to agree that many things from different sections of the business contributed to the downfall of sound clash.

It’s clear that other promoters used your ideas to ensure their promotions were a success.
This is why it would be good to have a proper competition like a Champions league etc governed by proper regulators who have the best interest of the industry.
Dancehall and reggae music is global. There are hundreds if not thousands of sounds that love the sound clash culture.
We need a independent organisation to bring the whole industry forward that will leave a positive legacy long after we are gone.

    Not just trophy inflation.
But soundclash has a HIGHLANDER - DUNCAN MCLEOD problem.
The DINOSAURS were so effective at killing, they are like a coalition of dominant male lions who did not allow any cubs to grow up to be in a position to challenge them. They did not RAISE THEIR OWN CUBS TO REPLACE them, they killed everything, to the point where the entire savanah became a barren wasteland with no new blood for the lions to feed on.
How can the clash platform be rebuilt - to consistently attract and retain the younger generations the way the JUGGLING platform does?
If wrestling, boxing & futbol can attract and retain young female audiences, how comes soundclash is not currently able to do that?
Dinosaurs only seem to want to war amongst themselves for big $.
What the clash platform needs is for the DINOSAURS to train & raise cubs. Bridging generations - to sustain and expand the CLASH ARENA.
Clashes need fi be tag team now. Where LINKS, TROOPER, MADGIE etc each TEAM UP with new blood.
    And the clashes become.
    DinosaurA + youngsound A vs Dinosaur 1 + youngsound 1.
Thats the format. Tagteam of vintage & younging.. mix and match.
Bragging rights nowadays ought not be about which DINOSAUR or longtime sound can kill..
But which one of them can partner with and/or raise FRESH NEW TALENT to reach their STANDARD OF KILLING WHEN THEY WERE IN THEIR PRIME.
Soundclash need to go into DANNYDREAD TEACHER MODE.. in order for the platform not go extinct.
    2 prong sgrategy needed.
Danny dread mode + infiltrate JUGGLING ARENA mode.

@@garfieldbourne2448 financially they spend the most for dubs and they don’t get any free because every artist assume they have the bag . I have been on many of the jamrock cruise 🚢 and personally knows they cuts lots of special just for whom they are playing against.not to debate you but they do it for love no profit that’s why they’re leaving the business . PS they’re the ones who caused artists to change so much for dubs 👂👍

It was no more creativity in Soundclash after 2003. In 2004 All the sounds Had the same Dubs . Mighty crown Is the Successful sound but have no identity They cut all of the big sounds big songs the same way World clash 99 in one fi one might crown play 10 of kattaroc big songs And the same riddims in 2000 might crown Start to cut LP and jaro King Addies and downbeat big song might Crown Is a dub collector and that’s what killed Soundclash All Dub collectors Collecting other sounds dubs

Saxon killed Bodyguard in the UK World Clash but they added a extra decision and the moment was lost.
Saxon killed all the sounds that night.

And you can't say a trophy with 50 in a dance don't count its just a lower level trophy the worst player in the nba probably has tons of trophy from high school and street tournaments etc. He's just not on lebron kd curry level etc

    I. Would not say Irish and chin kill the things its more about the young sounds on young sound from Jamaica are not emerging and only some of the NY songs are good but them hit a brick wall the best thing right now around is Jakes ss, and addies still, problem Shawn right now I like but all the rest sounds that kicking ass are the older sound man them

The schoolyard insults and worse still constant screaming down the mic from selectors is off putting to a lot of reggae / dancehall fans. Ok Tony Screw and a few others conduct themselves like adults but they are exceptions!

Lee major from earth ruler to this day says he won the 1 clash against addies if a trophy was given he would have to stop saying it. Baby face admits that Saxon won the trophy that night but he was cheated but he never says he won because the trophy was giving to saxon he say he was robbed of the 🏆
