  • I watched the 1985 film, The Breakfast Club, starring Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Paul Gleason, and John Kapelos. I had heard of this film many times before, it was a lot deeper and weirder than I expected. But not in a bad way. I can see why it's considered a classic.

Always think the confession scene where they're all telling each other why they're in detention was so incredibly well done by these 5 young actors. I know none of them went on to become huge stars (exception maybe Emilio Estevez for a while) but they should all be immensely proud of that scene.

What?? Molly Ringwald was the queen of 80s movies! Judd Nelson was in a bunch of other definitive 80s movies, such as St. Elmo's Fire, which stars the whole "Brat Pack."

They were all big stars!! Maybe not Ton Hanks level but they were all big!

But none of them were able to transition into fully adult roles. By the time they all were in the 30s their careers were on the downslide.
Ally Sheedy worked for awhile, Judd Nelson has had a few adult roles but little of note. Anthony Michael Hall had a strange career arc as he changed physically a great deal upon reaching adulthood (some believed he was taking steroids) and his personal demeaner seemed to mirror Emilio Estevez's character in this mover, the bully jock. All of which seemed to hurt his acting career rather than help to transition him to an adult performer.

Thank you _so much_ for keeping the comments brief during the movie, and for pausing the film whenever you spoke. I just came from another 'Breakfast Club' reaction video where the girl was going on and on and on about her high school experiences - _while the film was still playing in the background!_ So frustrating. The best reaction video I ever saw was a guy watching 'Jaws' (1975) for the first time. He barely said a word _the entire time._ He was totally transfixed by it, and it was awesome to see! He saved the talking 'til after.
Speaking of which, I loved your summation at the end of this, about how each character turns out to have much deeper things going on than you initially thought. That was the genius of John Hughes' writing/directing. Sure, that kind of thing had been done before with characters in general, but Hughes excelled at using it to show the hidden depth of _teenagers,_ specifically. (...whose feelings and perspectives he thought had been under-served in movies). Anyway, major props also to the great Dede Allen, who edited the many hours of footage to give us these _fantastic,_ memorable scenes! Cheers.

Thank you so much for watching, glad you liked it! :) Yeah, I try to keep the talking to a minimum cause I want to experience the film, and I pause, not just so that the audience can enjoy it but also so I don't miss anything while I'm talking.

    • @omnipop4936
      @omnipop4936 2 года назад

@@jowbloe3673 I want to watch someone reacting to a movie like we all did when
we saw it in theaters - which didn't involve going off on dissertations about psychology and sociology every few seconds, and giving anecdotes about past personal experiences, etc., _while the movie is still unfolding._
In a theater, you wouldn't want the person next to you doing that. It would break the flow of the film. In theaters, we mainly just laughed, gasped, groaned, cheered, booed, etc., with only the briefest of comments here and there. We were _immersed_ in the film, not sitting above it, giving "review and analysis" before even knowing how the plot was going to go. It's fine to do afterword, but not during.
But hey, creators are free to do whatever they want. But since you asked, that's what I'd like to see.

Indeed. A high school classic. 😎
Fun Fact: The scene in which all characters sit in a circle on the floor in the library and tell stories about why they were in detention was not scripted. Writer and director John Hughes told them all to ad-lib.

A 30’s coming-of-age for the 80’s-affected. Great writing, directing, acting, soundtrack. Andrew McCarthy from Mannequin acting very differently than she’s used to.

Listened to the soundtrack to this, on cassette, most days on the bus to school. Good times.
While very tropey and stereotype filled, I still feel the movie has a good message about the evils of high school and the torments of youth.

A good film with a high spirit but I wasnt too sure about the "couple thing": the pretty girl ends up with the bad boy, the emo girl puts on makeup and gets pretty enough to get the athlete and of course the nerd who had the better chemistry with the pretty girl ends up alone...

Love this movie, hits me on such a personal level. And yes,, the 80s were a different time. This is actually set in the yr I graduated. The interaction between them still appeals to teens and rings thru to those of us that are beyond that point. Reminding us of our thoughts and feelings at that point in life.

Another great reaction, Kat. I relate to Brian. I was expected to get perfect grades. If I got a 98 on an exam my mother would get upset and ask “What happened to the other 2 points?” When I was 14 my father began to lecture me about my grade point average and going to college.

I dislike this movie and don't get how people can like Bender so much. I disliked him to the point his sob story didn't make me sympathize. This and Sixteen Candles and Weird Science are easily the worst John Hughes films in my opinion.
