      Movie: Satire. Satire. Satire. (Audience laughs)
      Book: Yep. It's perfectly ok to burn 50,000 men, women, and children to death in a single night. Those humanoid aliens we are commiting war crimes on aren't bugs. They just need to be taught a lesson.
      Reader: So, why do you send down mecha suits to commit seemingly senseless war crimes when you could just bombard them from orbit?
      Book: Well, Timmy, that is an excellent question. We're monkeys and, while monkeys often kill other monkeys, sometimes it's better to establish dominance. We're doing the military equivalent of putting our balls on another monkey's head. Our soon to be client species will understand that because they exhibit biologically and socially convergent evolution with monkeys.

      Correct. By design, the timeline is made to make you think the bugs did nothing wrong and it was the humans who started the war. Its the opposite. The Mormons colonize the planet and are wiped out. The bugs then send an asteroid that hit Buenos Aires. The humans respond by invading Big K, and are then wiped out. The idea of a "brain bug" is hypothesized and a plan is created to capture one. From there, its a long war to wipe out the bugs who won't surrender. Read the book, its better then the film

    I love how a lot of these clips leave so many inconsistencies that could lead up to conspiracies.
    To me, its clear the Federation launched the asteroid to Buenos Aires to ramp up support for a war agaisnt the bugs.
    And there is also the Mormon colonists. In a military fascist that is portrayed, religion is never touched upon which could imply the world government doesn't see most religions or actively supress them. The fact they want you to believe that somehow a bunch of mormon "extremist" managed to establish a base in some distant world on the other side of the galaxy without federation resources, ships and support is ridiculous.
    The most likely answer is that the this particular colony was either a prison camp for religious folks that rebelled against the federation or a mormon colony that was purposedly placed in a dangerous place as a form of supression and also to ramp up more support for the war when they inevitably get butchered. Its a win win for the federation.
    Overall an incredible showcase of how propaganda works and how it changes the narrative of events.

      There's one teeny tiny problem with that.
      Why would the propaganda channel, with a live uncensored broadcast, go on to show scenes from the invasion and eventually report on a defeat and retreat with the CASUALTY NUMBERS? And why after that would the Sky Marshall step down and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY for the disaster? Why does that happen in this "fascist" society?
      (Now that I think of it, I recall the maker of the film didn't exactly read the novel? I gotta relearn that bit.)

      I'm pretty sure the asteroid wasn't sent by the bugs - that's just another part of the propaganda of the film. My read of it was always that it was just a harmless orbiting body that Carmen's ship accidentally hit and knocked off course, that then hit earth as a result and was spun so more people would sign up to the meat grinder.
      Also, interesting to note, the Arachnids all have actual military units and roles: Artillery, infantry, medical, engineering, intelligence, etc. But the humans only have infantry that swarm in (like insects) that spray bullets haphazardly, (despite part of the propaganda showing how to easily kill an arachnid) and air support that basically do nothing (because the Arachnids tunnel) or rain bombs down on their own doomed allies.

    • @brandonwelsh5090
      @brandonwelsh5090 9 месяцев назад +10

      @@billytheafroman In the book the mobile infantry are equipped with iron man style power armour and are dropped onto planets in small numbers. Also the meteorite was blasted towards earth from the Arachnid homeworld, it's just that for some reason the Federation lacked any kind of orbital defense of earth.
