If they see that little flap opens that wall to the human inside, they'll figure it out or bust it open. Almost scarier that they opened it, like the animals are slowly learning.

Sometimes the bear still attacks, but by 'attack' I don't necessarily mean the bear is already mauling you, just that he is coming for you with the intention of mauling you. Making yourself look bigger generally only works with the smaller species of bears, and making noise might scare a bear off, or it might not. A solid punch to a bear's nose might discourage further attacks if it has already grabbed you. But, again, that doesn't always work. Some bears get enraged when you do those things....and some already are significantly enraged when they attack. Because, attacks can happen from you surprising the bear, and in that case the bear might not be terribly enraged to the point where you couldn't discourage an attack. A bear with Cubs will be enraged, and it will be much harder to scare them off, but it has happened before, so it's possible, depending upon the circumstances and the mood of the bear.
