This is the most accurate scene in the entire show. The WRX doesn't care what you can rev to or what wheels are driven. It does it's own thing and balances the best of all worlds.

When I watched this scene for the first time, I have a feeling that Takumi can win against the Impreza but it turns out that the Impreza was driven by Bunta, his father so I felt that it's incredible that Bunta raced his own son and defeat him.
Bunta is the undisputed best driver in Mt. Akina. And his impreza is miles superior (100% properly tuned by Bunta to run that course so well). Bunta has every reason to win.
This eurobeat fits the race, since when bunta overtakes takumi the song says "I'll never be the same" meaning that takumi will now change for the better since he lost.
Takumi thought that he saw some ghost racing on akina and arrive home only to find out the subaru sti that beat him appears in front of his house, scared the shit out of him

Bunta's ability to race is like the equvalent to Toshiya "God Arm" Joshima from Team Purple Shadow. So in a sense that's the closet Takumi ever to race against his dad in an actual race. And remember Takumi did overtake Toshiya at some point, but Toshiya later did outran him Takumi to the point broke his suspension in a desperate attempt to keep up with the old man incredible "time attack run". If Toshiya hasn't been exhausted and puke, he would have beaten Takumi in 4th stage.
More like he was impressd that Takumi manage to keep up against him despite Takumi driving an inferior car. The lesson Bunta try to pass on to Takumi is that even if he is a good driver, the car he drive could also determine if he would win the race or not. Bunta and Takumi are at the same level of skill at this point. So he just simply overtake at straight road through sheer speed to make his point.
It's downhill, so 4WD is not giving him advantage. I remember in a later episode, Takumi was delivering tofu in the Impreza and was complaining about how 4WD is harder to drive downhill

I think by the time that Impreza passed takumi, he knows it was his dad...there is no way he can't recognize the plate and car of his father, if it's too hard to see when takumi was at front.
It was a completely new car meaning new reg, meaning new plates. Bunta didn't tell him until later, and he still was surprised. That's what makes this so funny because when he sees the gutter trick he freaks out.
For a memory to the voice actor of Bunta, we need a Bunta Stage, even if it's put into MF Ghost, for a funeral kinda thing, we need a Bunta Stage, whether it's to be a final send off to Initial D, or for the original artists to put there work into a piece of MF Ghost, in the original style, and make us remember that Initial D is the Bunta of MF Ghost.
Well he wasn't wrong, The Impreza is a very easy car to drive fast its manoeuvrability and handling are very forgiving even in the snow but if you want the most out of that car you have to be confident and throw her like a bitch that owes you money. Get it right and she'll scream daddy more Get it wrong and she'll pull a gun on ya, if ya lucky it may only be a flesh wound, if not... That's the kinda car the Subaru Impreza is.

Its funny cuz i know a guy who drove a E30 M3, thought that the M4 couldnt outrun at the corners until later that day a M4 Competition appeared and blow the doors off that M3 with ease
At this point in the story, takumi still didn't reach his peak and bunta was driving an actually superior car. Makes no sense he would lose to him however at the end of the anime, it sorta hints that maybe takumi surpassed bunta considering he himself was surprised by his tire control seeming extra ordinary
