  • As there finally was a Surface Pro 3 firmware update thru Windows Update, of course I had to try it out and check it it finally addressed the wide-spread N-trig touch screen and dead zones issue. Not quite, not really, at least for me, but re-calibration actually helped a bit, at least temporarily, for a day, or boot or two, ... #Ad: Tables & more @Amazon: services.exact... Hi Rene,
    As I also have the issue with phantom touches I tried running the sony touch panel calibration tool, but even after installing visual c++ 2010 (which fixes the issue of missing dlls) the program always exits with "failed to init transport status=11" - do you have any recommendations?
    am running windows 10 (version 2004 - build 19041.804) pro on a surface pro 4

      IDK, the exe just worked on Win 10 some years ago. But the calibration did not last long for me. It looks like degrading hardware to me.

    I have a similar issue after installing a new screen. I was thinking maybe hardware issue? But Touch works great in the BIOS so I dont get it, I thought maybe EMI issue?

    Rene, Your video helped me out finally solve my long lasting issue with my sp3! I tried everything with threatening and begging Microsoft to swap my Surface due the faulty screen.

    if i replace the whole screen this issue will gone ?
    i think mine is a hardware issue cuz when i force a bit with a napkin the random touches stop.

    • @renerebe

      I also suspect a hardware issue, as it is widespread and as I use Linux proofs the coordinates already arrive at the OS that broken. I have not tried swapping my screen, but I assume if you find a high quality, e.g. not yet broken screen and digitizer part that should certainly fix this. HOWEVER: swapping the screen is really difficult, especially getting the old one out in one piece (you might want to seek it as spare part material): www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Microsoft+Surface+Pro+3+Teardown/26595

      Bits & more by René Rebe thanks so much I’ll try to change the screen, it’s been 6 months with that issue and is not software issue. When I gently press with napkin those random touches gone.

    Okay I put Windows 10 issue doesn’t exist it did first then I ran updates so far no touch issues. I had 11 22H2 on it. I left it installing 11 21H2 to see if it gives me issues.

    hi rene ive the same deadzone, just a bit to the left. But i bought it that way because i didnt intend to use the Touchscreen . But now i use it for writing in class with the Stylus. Ive realized that the Problem is far greater than just the dead Zone. it some times just doesnt pick up touch( with the Stylus) on any place of the screen or it lags behind. i wonder if youve got that Problem too. writing in note or any app is driving me crazy. sometimes its working fine for a few minutes, but other times it just buggs out like crazy. also it gets more crazy if i put my Hand on the screen to write. so the Palm rejection isnt working proberly eiter. i bought a replacement screen and will swap it, to see if that gets rid of the Problem.

    • @renerebe
      @renerebe  6 лет назад

      I actually do not use the stylus very often. I thought only touch was affected, but I have not used it the last months. Please let us know how your screen swap goes! Be careful, I read it involves a lot of heating, and glue cutting and such! www.ifixit.com/Guide/Microsoft+Surface+Pro+3+Display+Replacement/51722 PS: just checked the pen in Linux (usually does not matter much, as the digitizer simply sends regular HID events anyway) and the stylus works fine even in the dead touch zone, just as I remembered, ..!

      @@renerebe im done! what a messed up Thing that is. first, done have ilusions on getting the screen out in one piece, not going to happen. the new Touchscreen is in and it works. the dead Zone is gone. But in the dead Zone i had, the Stylus did work. so i dont know how simiular of a Problem we have. i justed glued the screen in and have some books on it for pressure. i can update you later, after a test, if you want to.

      well, it worked for me and some others here. However, it often does not last long and apparently becomes worse, so expect this to be some kind of permanently degrading hardware damage :-/

      @saadmac523 calibration does not help long for most and IMHO the root cause is likely degrading hw. Potentially manufacturing flaws.

    keep magnets, especially very strong non-shielded magnets away from digitizers and stylus input devices....microsoft surface keyboard fail? ... magnets have negative effects on phone and tablets that use stylus.
