This perforrmance might just be the pinnacle of her career because of her exceptional communucation skills and attentiveness. I was in New York that day. Diana Ross has shown over and over she is in fact the real deal there is no other out classing the word class, and showing over and above the word superstar all that can truly be said about this lady is wow .And the detractors that would say something negative has nothing else to do Diana did it she came she conqured and she left ,and she did it 2 days in a row over 1.3 and a half million audience members not counting worldwide tv. viewers which was countless. Diana Ross triumphed like no other
she called the hospitals police stations rumors flew about stabbings no one came in to be treated for stabbed wounds only problem was they got over heated had to be taken to a hospital to rest
She didn't criticize God for the rain, she just saw the good side of rain. That's why she is what she is... She always has a positive mindset when faced with difficulties. I know that in life she went through many difficult moments and she also made mistakes, just like us human beings, but she is still standing! Thank you Miss Ross for the lesson.❤

Good God, how I love Diana Ross. She did that performance flawlessly in the rain. Such class and grace. A True legend and performer. Classic performance, classic Diana. We will never see a star of this magnitude that will hold it down like this live on such a huge stage during a storm. She kept the audience captivated at the same time. They were with her from the start and would have stayed despite the rain had she continued. Diana Ross is simply the best. Forever, Diana Ross.

Kevin Honestly, even though Beyonce has modeled herself after Diana Ross in some ways. In terms of voice & style, Diana has always been more refined in every aspect. Even the quality of Diana’s voice is better. Beyonce is a good artist for what she does, but is really not on Diana’s level.
I was there too . I was with 5 of my best friends. We stayed until they stopped the show. We couldn't go the next day because of work. We were all dancers and had a show the next day. But what an experience to be there and see Diana "singin in the rain." I have been a life long fan of hers.

I was only 13 yrs old; we drove from Bridgeport, CT. to the Bronx for a Church function, which we had arrived a little too early for. Smartie driver decided to drive to Central Park. On my way to the restroom with the older kids, it came down. I could not see the hand in front of my face without feeling like my eyes would pop, from opening them so wide. All I could see was a wall of pure white in front of me, and the wind was pretty intense. I've never been that petrified in my life... =)
That's my girl. I live in Pittsburgh and that rain storm hit us first. It was one of the worst storms in history. We were completely glued to the TV, watching this live concert. Happy Birthday Miss Ross!
I was on holiday in NYC for the only time, with family friends. I was 17 and we hit turbulence over the city flying in. That was scary and when we left the plane, the hot humid air hit me. We walked in Central Park and we didn't know why so many people suddenly flocked in. I couldn't believe I was in Central Park being from a low income background in UK. Later the storm was huge and we were eating supper somewhere, glad to be deep inside a building! The rain was like being in the shower. The next day was gorgeous. We heard all about the concert then. I wish we had gone the second day but I'm so glad to have been in the city so close to this. NYC was awesome, from the point of view of an English boy. I'm glad I found these recordings of the concerts.

I just saw Miss Ross at the Hollywood bowl last night pure 100% class of the same at 78 years old she has not lost her touch sweet loves her fans she's truly an icon. Love you, Miss Ross
Maybe the best images of Diana Ross was in this C. Park 1983 show when was raining in her face. This image is FOR EVER! Today doesn't have stars like that, unfortunately.
Diana Ross has such a 70s vibe - so deeply connected to reality and nature. She really did care about what 800k people exiting the park in an oncoming storm would have created. Such tremendous leadership.
I arrived in NYC that day on my only ever holiday abroad. It was so humid. We walked in Central Park and had no idea why so many people were coming in. Then we went for supper and got soaked near Radio City music hall. The sky here is so MEAN and nasty. Then the storm came. The next day was gorgeous and clear. We went up the Empire State. Wow, I will never forget those days in my lifetime. I'm glad I was just in NYC that day.
My brother & I used to duet to this song all the time!! Whenever we were bored, we would duets for our family to entertain them! The good old days!! 💘 👪 🏡 😍 💃 🎶 👀 💋
I remember this like it was yesterday. She was at the top of her game. This concert truly made history around the world. Everyone was talking about it the next day. We love you Diana. You are timeless.
kept getting darker and darker as the song was ending she told her stage people no i do not want that i do not want too she was been giving a big towel to dry off she said no she wanted to be wet like everyone else amazing lady
this mammoth concert could have turned into an unprecedented nightmare...however, her historic performance has not yet been given the credit deserved. truly legendary.
I was there both days and agree that Miss Ross was at the top her game and handled the unexpected.... I have always loved what she did, in group or solo.
i see this concert live in my mind alot it is stuck to me no other concert effected me i was 13 years old watch it on Show time not HBO NOT Cinemax Showtime
What an amazin lady!Only Diana could calm Hundreds of thousands in a rain storm. It seems like yesterday watching this super nova star perform in the concert that topped All others. This one is for the record books.
i love miss ross...she did not want to leave that stage....a true professional in every sense of the word....the show must go on...aint no mountain high enough for diana....love, love, love!
She is truly a spiritually led person. This is what drives this woman. Through whatever she faces she always seem to soldier through it. I admire that! Even in this storm, she is praying to God as she is humming “The Lord’s Prayer” for guidance. That anointment is in the beauty of her voice & aura so that's why she need not be compared to another.
I'm a lifelong Diana fanatic...and I just noticed she was humming it today (30 years later!) as I watched my DVD! What an incredible moment. Wanted to see if anyone else picked up on it here on YT. Wow!
she made everyone feel safe while severe thunderstorm was in progress wonderful performer and talent singer iam always a fan of diana ross the queen of soul personally too me!
8:45 She hears the thunder and knows straightaway. It's time to call it quits. 9:05. "I'm making the decision" then she puts her tongue in her cheek. She likes to make decisions😊. She has the strong mind of a leader. I wonder if she thought she had already got a repeat performance in the bag the next day. I admire this lady.
it was really rolling with thundering and lightning i saw it it did stopped briefly but it kept getting darker and darker amazing that her back upsingers ask her too stay then she told her adoring fans she will stay but their safety comes first ladies and gentlemen and children leave the park calmly quietly she will do it again the next day which the weather was beautiful the following the day.what legendary artist diana ross stays soak and wet and a severe thunderstorm! she was amazingly brave!
Diana is the only artist i know where her live versions of songs are actually beter than the studio ones, i just am amazed by this, id prefer to listen to this then any of her studio stuff, this is so pure she is so talented
@aaaniimeThis is my favorite moment from CP. I'm a major Diana Ross fan and have seen her perform so many amazing things since 1964 that I can't list them here, but this certainly is way up there. She's an outstanding performer who still slays audiences better now than ever, but there are moments, here and there, where her brilliance and uniqueness defy even my own high standards of awesome. I've met & spoken with her. She's always kind, gracious, warm and real. She is what special really means.
I met a girl at this concert who I married in the park 2 years later and who is sitting here watching this with me 27 years later. Thank you, Diana!

She is such a show business professional. I love and respect Ms Ross so much! Shes among the best ever!!!
we can not find many professionals like her today

I love that after she sang endless love, she was singing and humming the lord's prayer. A beautiful woman, a true artist. I was there at this concert.

LOVE DIANA!!!!
She is truly a spiritually led person. This is what drives this woman. Through whatever she faces she always seem to soldier through it. I admire that! Even in this storm, she is praying to God as she is humming “The Lord’s Prayer” for guidance. That anointment is in the beauty of her voice & aura so that's why she need not be compared to another.
we need more people like Lady Diana
She's amazing~
I'm a lifelong Diana fanatic...and I just noticed she was humming it today (30 years later!) as I watched my DVD! What an incredible moment. Wanted to see if anyone else picked up on it here on YT. Wow!
6:38 What was she humming here?
@@davebellamy4867 “The Lord’s Prayer.”

I was there too. Incredible night.
what a great situation and show!
Robert , who is singing, but not shown, is actually a young Peabo Bryson.
What an amazing experience that must’ve been.
Yo tenía 32 años de edad, ahora tengo 70 y la sigo escuchando y admirando.

Diana is the only artist i know where her live versions of songs are actually beter than the studio ones, i just am amazed by this, id prefer to listen to this then any of her studio stuff, this is so pure she is so talented
I was there right up front. Am still enjoying the experience.
