The accountant in me started going, whoa whoa whoa. Then i cooled off and realized this is as much a promotion of the product lines you carry. Well done I appreciate the presentation and the business model
in terms of the battery system, my question is always about how often I access. If not often, then put it deep and stack on it. I would probably put everything under the floor.
Plus, if he does more than 1 battery, they are heavy & since it's an off-road vehicle lowering the center of gravity that much, could make the difference in a "tippy situation."
I agree, it's all about how often you access it. While you're not going to access the battery itself very often, and so putting it under the floor seems like a good idea to me, you probably want to place the inverter and the battery management system someplace you can easily access them. So, I would recommend a "hybrid" of the batteries under the floor, and maybe that box to hold the battery management system and the inverter. Then you would still have room in there to store some cables, extension cords, , etc. that you might need/want to go with that equipment. Just a thought...
I've seen guys put the batteries in the front of the bed, then mount the management system in the back by the tailgate. That way, there is easy access to the manager, but the batteries are out of the way.
Glad to see your Gladiator is receiving the kind of respect they deserve!! Maybe one day I can get enough cash together to really add the additional components to my 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. Just after my Jeep was delivered, we found out that the builder we hired to complete our home walk off and claimed bankruptcy. Both of us had just retired 5 years before this occured. We had to go into our retirement savings to get our home completed. Both of us worked for the state so we had great benefits. Nothing was done to the builder as he filed for bankruptcy prior to this. Last year I also had to go thru cancer treatment and at least I'm cured. I read you retired from the Military. I spent 9 years in the Army as a Military policemen. I retired as Vocational Rehabilitation Teacher! I'm 75 and enjoying life! Wish you the best!! Yanni
Thank you for your service to our country and I'm sorry to hear about your challenge. I hope you are still able to get out and have some great adventures, a stock Gladiator Rubicon will take you just about anywhere. Safe travels brother!
This build is shaping up nicely. AEV makes good stuff. I love the amber lights and setting the lightbar further back so it doesn't light up the hood. You're going to want to get some red reflective tape to replace the reflectors you took off both to make your Jeep noticeable when parked and for legal reasons.
The Gladiator is a cool truck. It's too bad the prices of them have gone insane. The dealers are now finally putting some big discounts on them. My local Jeep dealer has 15 2023 models on the lot they haven't moved yet, and this is a smallish town with a tiny dealer.
Brad, I personally think you should visit a place that builds ambulances. I think you could get some good storage management ideas and pinpoint your needs and wants. Personally not a fan of the box for battery management. I think it should be tucked away but accessible. Also lowering your center of gravity. The GP looks good!
I worked ambulance duty for about 2 years many moons ago, so I'm pretty familiar with their layouts.. I've got some pretty good idea. I hear you about the lower center of gravity, something I keep going back to. Thanks!
@@TrailRecon Also, I realize there maybe some reason to monitor the battery system. What about router-ing some type of glass/plexiglass window for your viewing pleasure.
Why the need for such a battery system? I still have not heard any load analysis or even a reason for such overkill. Now, if you simply enjoy putting massive systems together and are not trying to optimize the ENgineering, well, then have at it. I do that too and derive personal gratificatiion, but in the end it is overkill
Yes, unlike an ambulance, this will go off-road and could be subject to unexpected, "tippy situations" always be thinking about lowering your center of gravity Brad!
Don't Use your chase lights on the highways in BC and Alberta. RCMP doesn't like amber lights on the back unless they are turn signals only. Montana might cry about removing red reflectors.
Honestly the starlink flat mount could be the best upgrade of the build. The ability to call, text , and communicate instantly when you are outside of cellular coverage is huge. Great build so far. $$$
You have some awesome ideas for this build and I really like how it's progressing. One suggestion... avoid mounting components on access panels 7:27 as this causes wiring harness movement each time the panel is accessed. This could introduce harness issues down the road.
Hi Brad. Nice rig. A suggestion for your 120v power. Companies like Grecell 2400 and Anker C1000 make really nice battery generators. LiFePO4 technology. The Anker is under 30lbs. I have one. If you set up your rig with an onboard inverter, say 2000w, you can recharge the Anker while driving. Or Idle for 15 minutes and charge it 50% capacity. You can set the Anker to charge at whatever wattage you choose between 1w and 1000w. 1000w will recharge it from flat dead in an hour.
So I'm not the only person who ground off the silly pencil clips on the RAM Mount iPad mini holder. :) I have a 2021 JLUR. Removed the rear seats and bought a full Goose Gear stealth plate, and CampKitchen 2.3, with dual drawer module. So my Dometic fridge and Partners stove side out the back. My 100Ah LiFePO4 battery is mounted behind the fridge. Two of the four Goose Gear compartments are stuffed with tools and recovery gear. One compartment is where all the electronics go (so they're protected). The last compartments is behind the passenger seat, I keep it empty until I start to pack for a trip. I'm really looking forward to your Doc build. It would be great if Elon Musk could sponsor your Starlink Roam. Though he might want you rolling in a Tesla Cybertruck.
I suppose you could swing it around if you wanted, but I guess there is some minute benefit to having the "forced cold air". The Mojave is a great option, but when I was shopping and looking at the incredibly steep discounts being offered, this was what came up locally with the options I wanted.... happy with my choice.
Sooo I’m concerned about the sag on the seat Molly when you attach things. You’re a DOC 🙌🏻, are those Med-Kits tear-aways ? The “deleted” 2nd row seats has a great space for a. Overhead hammock for “things”. Now I would imagine you have rolled w/ Uncle Sams Missguided Children…. Do you have security “measures” in-place ? I haven’t seen many overlanders discuss preparing for 4 & 2 legged threats.
Fellow navy guy here. Just picked up my rubicon gladiator yesterday. Can’t wait to get away from Wisconsin and actually get to wheel it. 😂😂😂 ***former navy*** did 11 years as a 60B/60R aircrewman (AWR) split between north island and Pax River.
Ah, yes, the "cleaner and cooler air with a snorkel" marketing claim. Cleaner? If and how much are debatable. Cooler? Someone measure the air temperature at waist height (approximately where the stock air intake is on a stock vehicle) and at head height, and tell me the difference: I'll wait. Unless your vehicle is fitted with a carburetor, it's irrelevant anyway. "Deep water crossing?" Are you seriously planning a remake of _The Hunt for Red October?_ You'll need to relocate your diff breathers, and they'll have to be above the level to which you're planning to submerge. You'll also need to seal the electronics (Jeep haven't fully figured out proper electrical connections for even normal use) and anything else that won't take kindly to water intrusion. Oh, and water weighs 8.34 pounds/gallon, so I wouldn't be cavalier about water crossings, "deep" or otherwise. "You can put a lot of weight up there." Don't. Just. Don't. Your proposal seems sane enough, but don't encourage defective thinking among your followers. I know you've removed the rear passenger seats (and thus, the rear passengers) but what's all this stuff bolted in, on and around, with more yet to come, doing to GVWR, center of gravity, roll center, braking distance, etc.? Still, it looks good. And I'm glad you're promoting first aid training. I bumped into a gentleman about three years ago, at my local Starbucks here in San Jose, who was on his way down to join you on a trail trip. Maybe I will too, some day.
Great to see your build progressing! Thank you for raising awareness of the need to be prepared for medical emergencies out in the wilds! Having a stocked First Aid Kit and taking the time to take a Certified First Aid Course removes the panic felt when faced with a serious injury on the trail. Your build raises awareness and looks awesome all at the same time! Win-Win!!!
Brad, I’m still trying to catch up on all of your videos, so if I mention something you have already done, I apologize. I am in Nova Scotia Canada and am buying my first gladiator. I am building a Rescue/Medical vehicle of my own. I am applying to the local volunteer GSAR unit and would love a TrailRecon Kit, but wondering if you could do a three step/ level. Such as … A First Aid Kit / A First Responders Kit / and a Full on gotta keep you alive until medivac arrives Kit (the latter being within reason). Thanks again! Been watching you for a while! Please keep up the awesome vids and amazing information
When you added the lift kit and tires how did it affect the day-to-day ride? I am looking to do exactly what you did and it makes my research a million times easier! Thank you, I love the channel!
It seems like a decent platform. It's about as close as we'll get to a 79 series land cruiser here in the US. it would be nice if Jeep actually listened to the people who want and drive them, and put more into making them what they could be by offering models with components people prefer like 1 ton axles, larger fuel capacity, v8 diesel(for those like myself), factory lift 4"-6", and so forth. I understand that they are blank canvas and people are free to do what they would like, but it isn't as though ALL manufacturers couldn't do it, stop listening to the 20 something you hired who is 5 minutes out of design school, listen to the people who customize and drive four wheelers and have decades of driving and off road experience. Not knocking the gladiator, more of a ding at the manufacturers.
Great video as always, Brad! Slightly off topic question. When you were filming yourself talking about the inside of the gladiator or the outside talking about the snorkel etc, the camera was following you. Left to right, it would go up and down as you moved your head. Can you please explain what you're using? Thanks
So happy to see you back in a Gladiator! I'd love your advice on gearing for mine. It's a 2020 automatic on 37's and it's my daily driver and trail toy. I'll never tow more than 3000 lbs or haul much weight. Thanks!
I like your channel and what you do and what you're creating with your Gladiator. But, you've turned it into one long video commercial of installed products. I bet, you'll never actually do a deep river crossing to justify your installing a snorkel. Because, if you go that deep everything inside your vehicle will be under water. Your fridge and all your medical and lifesaving equipment will be ruined. Not to mention, your heated seat covers and your underwear.. Either way, Good luck..
Nice, I like that the tires aren't overdone. For solar, consider changing out the hood for a non-rubicon and installing a Cascadia hood solar panel; you will save room on the roof rack and probably pull in the same wattage
Looks like DOC is coming together very nice. with all the outside mods, I was wondering if you were going to do anything with the engine? I see quite a bit of stuff about the 3.6 having dry starts. And that the Baxter performance spin on oil filter is supposed to fix this problem. Any recommendations or thought about this?
Haven’t seen any updates on the fate of the 392… wondering if it’s been sacrificed? It would be a shame because I think those will be a sought after collector piece in 10/15 years because of what will end up being a short production life but the gladiator is a cool unit also.
I like the build! One comment though, your tablet with the onX mapping looks a little pink. Is it reflection from the red seat covers? I would think you'd have it in camo! lol Good Looking rig, I especially like the low profile up on top. Good Luck!
Love the videos you do and greatly appreciate the Gladiator build. However, I think its too late for the Gladiators going forward. The dealers really ruined what was an otherwise great concept by overcharging and holding on for so long with their pricing. Which is too bad because there isn't anything except maybe the Tacoma where you can option out a really nice off road package and get it with a six speed stick. The prices are down now but it may be to late.
so the JT has it's alternator up top in the engine bay. I understand the "snorkel" doesn't in any way add water fording depth benefit (any vehicle made since like 1995 has too many electric components to ford water over the hood) and it's main benefit was cleaner air in the desert. true or no?
Maby an odd question but how do you fit in the gladiator @ Im 6.4 feet and i fit well in my 2014 jk but dont fit at all in a jl or gladiator. just wondering bc after speaking with my dealership i know they had to bring up the front seat bc of new exhaust regulation but they also put more angle on the front winshield wich bring down the roof hight. I will be honest im a little sad that i dont fit in bc i was really exited for the gladiator. Nice video ,cant wait to see what youl do next.
Use locktight on those mud flap bolts, they were constantly backing out, especially after a week on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. (not just the thumb screws, the bolts that attach the flap to the mounts).
What suspension and lift are you utilizing and are you able to park in your garage with a standard 7’ tall garage door? I apologize if you have addressed this previously… always enjoy your videos!
Brad I looked on rhino rack website for the rack. Couldn’t find the mounts that you show where it mounts just to the top. Can you let me know what mount you used specially? Thanks
I’m trying to use Brads promo code for OnX off-road but am in Canada and it only allows for US addresses. Anyone else here in Canada have an account and if so how did you register to use a promo code?
What were the stock gears and what size tires did you put on it when you lifted it. And how did he perform with the bigger tires in the stock gears. I see in this video. You’re going to change the ring and pinion to 488. so was there a load on the engine because you put bigger tires and kept the factory gears
Red is dope ! What goes good with red is carbon fiber accents maybe you have some ideas for more additions but I know that would make your ride look siiick
1 question and 1 comment. Are you going to take it to an Upfitter to get emergency lights? Also, you should consider getting some rock slide engineering slider steps, for it makes it easier to get in and add some good protection.
I like the mud flaps. I recently bought the same thing for two reasons. One I do want to be that guy flinging rocks... been hit a few times in the windshield. The second reason is the same as yours i.e. making it easier to clean. Looking forward to seeing this build and getting some ideas. BTW will you go with the new KC light bar when out?
U r going to artic ocean ? Like Canadian side of that northern town tuktayayuk or something? If yes then my question is will u be offering anyone else to join u like you subscriber like myself ? I would like to know ? It would be privilege to travel with you to artic ocean in my own rig and learn from ya as well as you are a veteran when it comes to over landing Let us all know Brad Unless u r making this trip intimate like your self or couple of close friend
@6:40 of the video you talk about power options. You can get twice the battery storage if you look at other LiFePo4 battery options. We have 280-300Ah of battery storage, 50A DC-DC charger with MPPT Solar and 3000W pure sine wave inverter contained within 25"x18.25"x8".
I’ve run those mud flaps on my JTR Launch Edition for a couple of years now. I’ve done Lockhart Basin, Top of the World, Elephant Hill and Booby’s Hole among many other difficult trails. Never any issues. 4:88s and 37s are a great combo but my trailer is much lighter than yours.
Brad I passed you & Marcos heading out on the Cajon pass around Dec 03, you both were towing adventure trailers, you in the bone stock Gladiator, Marcos 392 Wrangler both getting with it I mean really burning fuel, I’m surprised you neither discovered the eco diesel! I have an identical 2023 Rubicon Gladiator eco diesel 32 mpg highway with 435 lbs torque, my buddy (Gladiator eco diesel) towed his razor with 37’s on the truck thru the Cajon to lone Pine 25 mpg! Yeah I was ready for it!!
He should have gotten a long lasting warranty, mine being 2023 that went thru the nation wide recall before I bought it, I was told fuel pump granading, still not sure but no problems yet and an extended warranty. BTW my buddy’s eco diesel I mentioned had a transmission problem they couldn’t fix, lemon lawed and got the eco Diesel 2023, must have been built on a Monday 😂
I have the same snorkle. It's going to bring in leaves and sticks into your air box. Did you install the front mudflaps onto the plastic piece that holds the flare to the body? Get that piece replicated in aluminum. The plastic ones will break without the weight of the mudflap. Is this a Rubicon? Ditch the electric disconnect swaybar and replace it with a Curry Antirock ($1000), then sell the factory swaybar for $700

Looks great. These videos have been an inspiration for my off-grid Ford Ranger Comms vehicle build! Has been so much fun to build it out.
Is there an install video on the snorkel?

Those mud flaps served me well on my Arctic adventure!
Ehhh what's up Doc!
Props on the mudflaps. Has a distinct look, but they are practical, and benefit others on the road.

Didn’t hear you talk about diff breather extensions. Check out Ozark over land. That guy really puts his Gladiator through some water.
when you say steering "dampener", it's actually a "damper". You're slowing movement, not getting stuff damp. otherwise cool video
Looks great so far. Your plans sound like it will be very cool. I can't wait to see how it turns out.
Snorkels don't improve wading depth, they're a cold air intake. Don't believe me? ask your insurance company.
Does the snorkel cause any wind noise? I´m seriously considering an AEV snorkel for my JT. Also, what are dust lights?
Love the AEV bumper, but what a PITA it was to install… atrocious quality control but it’s my favorite mod.
What were the stock gears and what size tires did you put on it when you lifted it. And how did he perform with the bigger tires in the stock gears. I see in this video. You’re going to change the ring and pinion to 488. so was there a load on the engine because you put bigger tires and kept the factory gears
Nice, your build is great. As far as those chase lights in the rear bumper, I'm wondering if they can also be part of the turn signals? Cheers!
Red is dope ! What goes good with red is carbon fiber accents maybe you have some ideas for more additions but I know that would make your ride look siiick
Excelente camioneta cada paso fuerte y constante!!
Saludos!
Buena vibra 🔥✌️!
1 question and 1 comment. Are you going to take it to an Upfitter to get emergency lights? Also, you should consider getting some rock slide engineering slider steps, for it makes it easier to get in and add some good protection.
6:27 😄LOL First aid kit is black while the tire inflation kit is red!
But then, I guess you DO want the first aid kit to stand out more!
I was choosing between a Gladiator and a new Tundra. I chose the Tundra and less than a year later I'm trading it back in for a Gladiator 😂
Geez I thought only the Utah boys got bit by the OnX advertising bug. Guess not. It’s literally on every video I watch. 😴
Truck is looking good 👍 Informative stuff , good luck on adventures enjoy the content.
AEV bumper looks nice but what if you have a front camera... Relocation?
What steering damper did you choose? I didn’t see it in your build page yet. Thanks!
Having been a CJ owner I rented a Gladiator last year but found it to be too small inside for me. Oh well.
whats the reason for the 3 radios? I am just getting into this. Are they all the same or different platforms?
Curious to know where you got your red roof insulators and the patches! Love the jeep!!
Which steering dampener did you go with? I did not see it listed on the build page. Thanks!
Flatbed it so you can have a 6ft bed and put a full box on it. More suitable for what you want.
Great build so far Brad! Could you tell me where you got the red headliner panels for your top?
Keep box higher and keep it dry. In the floor increases risk of water intrusion
19:02 Wait, a California plate that doesn't start with the characters "3PCI"?
I like his white Gladiator Dream Jeep better than his old red Gladiator Dream Jeep.
That’s definitely a white label warn zeon. Wonder what they do to pimp out the Warn
I'd put the battery in the bed. it's a lot safer than keeping lithium in a hot car.
What wheels and tires did you pick Brad? Rig looks great!
AEV makes some really robust hardware that integrates perfectly.
Now that your in Moab getting dirty, is there a right way and a wrong way to wash an engine bay?
So excited for the future adventures in this vehicle. Great job! Safe travels always.
Thank you!
Thanks! No on the light bar, just going to run the new one on the JK.
Why not flip/rotate the swaybar disconnect?
Hi Brad, found the build page, I don’t see the Magnaflow exhaust. Can you share which one you installed? Thanks
I got it! The overland
So is your plan to sell this as a concept to agencies that might need it?
Did I hear arctic ocean?? 😮 waiting for that series!!!
Don't forget to get the differential vents above the water line.
I feel there should be a nod to MASH with this build.
You should upgrade to the interior mount stealth bar!
Your dream. I thought it was our dream. 😉😀
do you like the Gladiator more than your JK? :)
U r going to artic ocean ? Like Canadian side of that northern town tuktayayuk or something?
If yes then my question is will u be offering anyone else to join u like you subscriber like myself ? I would like to know ? It would be privilege to travel with you to artic ocean in my own rig and learn from ya as well as you are a veteran when it comes to over landing
Let us all know Brad
Unless u r making this trip intimate like your self or couple of close friend
The fridge will be good for organ transport.
Hi: How to fix the patches in the headliner?
@6:40 of the video you talk about power options. You can get twice the battery storage if you look at other LiFePo4 battery options. We have 280-300Ah of battery storage, 50A DC-DC charger with MPPT Solar and 3000W pure sine wave inverter contained within 25"x18.25"x8".
Are you planning on doing emergency lighting?
Where can I get those patches?!?! Love them!
Why not a cyclone pre-filter on the snorkel?
Doing any rock lights? Looking at kc cyclone
He sold the diesel too many def issues
