One Pro Wrestling ran their first ever show live from the Doncaster Dome on the 1st October 2005 and it was the first chapter of a turbulent tale for One Pro Wrestling (1PW)...

I do remember the Shawn Michaels uk etc appearances being given a huge amount of coverage/publicity in the wrestling media. It's also 2023 now and UK promotors still haven't learned that constantly bringing in a huge amount of international fly ins won't work financially!
What's crazy is how other promoters still bit into it.
I was training at BCW's training school at the time (which is another story if you know what happened to Colin Mckay.)
And they were genuinely under the impression, Shawn and Bret were both coming over.
It does work financially.. but only after you have bulit up the business first.
I saw Will Ospreay vs. Lance Archer vs. Cara Noir in 1PW a few months back and it was one of the best matches I've ever seen live.

A few months ago Villa Fan Dan saw a live match between the professional wrestlers known worldwide as Will Ospreay & Lance Archer & Cara Noir, and it was one of the best matches that Villa Fan Dan has ever seen live. End of story. Problem solved.

I never said that makes it OK that they scammed people. I was literally just sharing my personal experience with the promotion he was talking about in the comments, like a normal fucking human.

1PW is like if Terry Funk was a promotion and had little talent: it keeps retiring and coming back many times.
I stumbled across this video and after watching I’m really surprised. I went to 1PW in Doncaster earlier this year and watched the likes of Will Ospreay and Bobby Fish, the show was amazing and all was pretty much a success. I also know they’ve just had a show with Matt Cardona on it. Had no idea about the Shawn Michaels stuff but by the sounds of it the owners find money every now and then resulting in them overpaying too quickly for talent. My thoughts go out the the fans in 2011 because that would’ve really pissed me off. Kind of thinking about never going to another show but as long as the show is confirmed I don’t think there’s a problem to be had from the fans side

Firstly, do you think there could be problems had on the side of the wrestlers? And firstly, that's the attitude they literally bank on people having that makes it so easy for them to get away with the same trick time and again.
@@ramseydoon8277 The context was from my perspective and that i wouldn't having a problem paying for their show as long as everything you'd want to be confirmed before buying a ticket was confirmed, Talent, date, location price etc. I respect that the whole problem in 2011 was that 1PW confirmed everything and still cancelled and taking customers money in the process but Shawn Michaels coming to a company that had previously fucked up is a bit too good to be true
I was given tickets to their return show and enjoyed the show.
I didnt even know all this drama had happened tbh.
Its ran by the same group who run BWR in Grimsby so lets hope it doesnt fall back into baad habits from the past.

1PW at the Doncaster Dome was my first ever wrestling show. The main event was Abyss vs Steve Corino vs Christian for the NWA World's championship. Also met Lance Storm
A few facts I remember from this time and from the subsequent boom on 1PW's downfall.
Kevin Nash was booked for a 1PW show in May as well as BCW in Scotland and WXW in Germany. The week before the event he announced he wouldn't make it due to a lack of contact from Danny Rodd.
He then corrected this saying there was a mix up.
Towards the end if the Danny Rodd run.
Several local talents were told on show days that the promoter couldn't afford to pay them, and even offered to pay UK talent in DVDs. I believe this included then 1PW heavyweight champion Lionheart (RIP)
This needs another part Top10Wrestling! Nail in the coffin for Stevie but also look into Matt Jarrett's superclash and his scummy attics of promising wrestlers work and not delivering and lives on bygone days. Respect!

I remember watching 1PW on TWC and almost could have attended their last show. I remember that they were trying to get Hall & Nash for it, but Hall pulled out, honestly the last show sounded 50/50 whether or not it was going ahead or not? which is why I didn't go😅 never knew about them trying to get HBK though?
Their newest shows honestly aren't too bad, but feel a little weaker compared to their past stuff and right now their just another decent indy among many similar ones.
I always did wonder where 1PW got all their funds from to pay all these big names? I thought that they had some sort of partnership with an independent media store, but no way that alone could have been enough surely?

1PW were due to have an event in Wales at a comic con, advertising X - Pac on the show. They asked fans to suggest names. They picked mine, which was Unconventional. I was made up. They produced a poster and pushed it.
Then it got cancelled.
I was lucky enough to be in Doncaster at the time of 1PW and it was INSANE. The whole town got involved and all the local buses ran big 1PW advertisements on the side. I rememebr being on the Doncaster Center bus one day and everyone was talking about 1PW, they heard that I was American and they all clapped for me because they like wrestling and 1PW. Doncaster is a great town with great people, i HIGHLY recommend you visit!

I know this video was about the shady owners but it was also really nice to hear about the history of such talent appearing at the dome before their careers took off. I’ll keep going and I hope 1PW can stay out of financial trouble and I hope they stay loyal to their fans

I was partly introduced to the greater indie scene of the 00s when i was like 14 when i got a Fighting Spirit magazine that had a 1PW DVD in it, mind-blowing shit for a kid in Australia without internet who had no access to wrestling outside of the WWE
I enjoyed 1PW's recent shows. But I don't even know if they'll be around tomorrow.

It's crazy if they're really in financial trouble given that they've sold out every show since they came back. And their shows were getting a decent number of viewers on FITE. How bad at finances do you have to be to have a show that doesn't make money when pretty much every single ticket is sold?

Great video im so mixed with 1pw it was an amazing time in the myspace boom and my best friend at the time was a rat and we got to know a lot of the guys but, flip side we got yo know a lot of the guys. That whole metoo thimg would have a field day with what went on back then with very prominent people.

If 1PW relied on homegrown talent or local stars or even created stars instead of bringing people from the States over and relying on them, they wouldn't have had this problem in the first place They wanted to go big and then make a name for themselves but they burned through money too fast And yeah they might have made a name for themselves but not a good name. They could have avoided all this.
I think we can all agree that the least surprising thing about this video to UK fans is Mark Sloan being a class act.
Shawn Michaels contract was a *very* compliment situation.
Much of the cancelation was down to the Dubai dates having to be moved.

1PW is the furniture store of wrestling.
Constantly going out of business and everything is on sale, all the time.
With 1PW's scams, WCPW being bought by Vince McMahon, the Original NXT selling the rights of their companies' name to WWE despite legally having the name first, Wrestling Entertainment Series being badly managed, Paige's Family Wrestling Company problems, NXT UK going bust, and the British Speaking Out Moment - recent British Wrestling has be very MISS Than HITS. The best UK Wrestling scenes I've seen in recent years was ICW and British Bootcamp.
