FYI. To simplify your life, you can do a 30% gray by simply on GIMP's color tool without needing inkscape. Set the color to "black" (hex #000000), then switch the display mode in the palette from RGB to HSV. The V (value) dial will read 0. To make a "30% gray," change the value to 70. A general formula is the value (V) will be [100- Desired Percent]. Regardless, killer manipulation.
I get lost when you use the gradient to erase the shout on the Iceland pic. When I try to use the gradient the smallest movement erases most of the picture.
Beautiful trick with the Luminance. Will this work with every type of fusion? I mean no matter the colours in the 2 images? Luminance will still make them match behind it? when dragging the gradient, try to reduce the offset and Gradient to FG to BG
