  • Scott Fraser’s (@alwaysracin) 1987 Corvette dominates on the track and shines on the street. It’s loud, low and incredibly agile. That’s no accident. The Midnight Blue machine is the byproduct of years of research, months of fine tuning and plenty of hours in the shop. The car is equipped with full Ridetech suspension, including triple-adjustable coil-overs, StrongArms and bushings.

    Transmission isn't original in an 87 if it is a ZF6, unless you're trying to pass off an 89 as an 87 for Good Guys rules.

    C4 an excellent platform, groundbreaking that set new standards in its days, and has stood the test of time. With some modern parts and resto-mods they can be made to make contemporary sportscars look stupid and lame.

    Beautiful car! I’ve been looking for a C4 for a while to use as a daily, and for my first car, but unfortunately most of the ones in my area have drastically shot up in price. When I do find one, I hope to gradually build it up like this one.

    • @james_schneiderwind
      @james_schneiderwind Год назад +1

      @Vladimir Putin I didn't end up buying one because it didn't seem like a super practical first car especially since it only has 2 seats. I ended up getting an Acura TL instead, and it's been very reliable so far. I still do plan on getting a C4 somewhere down the road, but just not atm. It could be soon however, since this generation of TLs are known to have cursed transmissions, and mine has almost 300k miles.

  • @limabravo6065

    The C4s IRS, suspension, and brakes are worth the price of admission. I just picked up a running and driving 84 with Crossfire Fuel Injection (that manifold with its twin single barrel tbi units is on my shop wall) and im tossing in an Iron LS1 (5.3 punched out with an ls1 rotating assembly) and i want to do something goofy for the transmission after the 700r goes kaboom, im thinking about the 4+3 if theres an upgrade kit for sale somewhere to make it reliable suggestions

      Scott I have to second Shae's request. Now running in South Texas would love to add the louvers for cooling to my set up. By the way the L98 actually runs pretty well. I won the BSP division championship SCCA Cal Club in 2012 one of the most competitive regions in SCCA autocross with the stock motor and suspension set up by Dick Gulstrand.

    how did did ridetech's coilovers bolt up? I thought they only fitted 89-96?

    • @Flying_fisher
      @Flying_fisher Год назад

      As far as I know, anything that fits 89-96 will bolt on the earlier cars, the main differences are up front, the sway bar mount is different on the A arm, and the top of the bracket for the front strut will need to be lightly either cut for clearance or opened up slightly, I know people who have even used vice grips or channel locks to open it up a bit. You will also need to either move your front sway bar forward 3/4 of an inch by either cutting the brackets or getting a relocation kit for it. I opted to cut, and ran custom end links from Etwas Bauen. If you dont need a 3 way adjustable there are cheaper kits out there.

    • @alwaysracin
      @alwaysracin Год назад +1

      This is a 1989.
      The coil over kit will not work on the pre-89 cars without a bunch of work. The the Ridetech front bar will not just bolt up to the earlier cars (with the vertical radiator) you will modify a few things to make it work.

    The ~1987+ C4 L98 SBC engines have aluminum heads and cast iron blocks. An aluminum block saves about 100lbs, which is not nothing. LS swaps are cool and all, especially when they are someone else's project -- and their problem. When it's _your_ problem, the reality is that it'll be fairly expensive, complicated, and time consuming, to do properly. But Dart offers an aluminum SBC block for $2500, and the old SBC will make about 90% of the power an LS will make, with a similar setup. You can get so much power out of a SBC, anyway, it isn't likely to be an issue. I'm inclined to go that route for my 1988 C4.
    If weight savings under the hood is a big concern, there are a number of other things you may be able to do, like a lightweight battery, aluminum radiator, or removal of unnecessary components.
    Check out this C4 LS swap video. The guy says it's "easy", then proceeds to explain how it's really not so easy. He has a four-post lift, for one thing. Do you? Me neither:

      My aluminum radiator in my ZR-1 weighs more than the plastic tank stock one it replaced.

    • @sebbonxxsebbon6824
      @sebbonxxsebbon6824 11 месяцев назад +1

      Same in my 383 corvette, honestly though a 383 makes so much power you don't need an LS.

    • @varmastiko2908
      @varmastiko2908 6 месяцев назад

      I agree LS swap is unnecessary. But regarding weight it's not either or. You need to skim off every pound you can so obviously you do all the weight reducing measures and not just some of them. 100 pounds off by switching to an alloy block is absolutely huge and will help your weight distribution to no end.
