  • Trying a new thing, watching my favorite fighters in their classic fights, with you all. A chance to see them through my eyes, and just celebrate the incredible skills of these fighters. This one is between two absolute legends, Boonlai vs Karuhat. As you'll see, I'm too much a Karuhat fan. My fight idol. But both just superb in this Golden Age classic.

    I absolutely love this! It's kind of difficult to know where to start when it comes to watching muay thai fights. When I do, I feel like I'm just throwing a dart at a board; not knowing if I'm seeing a good example of either fighter or missing out on key context for the fight itself.
    I love this format, getting a hand picked fight and expert commentary. Pleeeeease make this a regular thing!!

    Karuhat's style is so amazing to watch but Boonlai was 😥👌, I nut at those exchanges where he would just barely block or slip a kick, or when he times the teeps after a kick, its so hard to predict Karuhats style probably but he was timing him there

  • @NewYorkSucks76
    @NewYorkSucks76 6 лет назад +3

    In round 1 Boonlai couldn't miss woth the leg kick and then completely stopped throwing it the rest of the fight. Did Karuhat do something positionally to defend against it or do you think Boonlai stopped using because he felt it wasn't worth enough points?

    • @8limbsUs
      @8limbsUs  6 лет назад +2

      I did see Karuhat get a pretty good check on the last low kick, but I suspect it's just that it's a very low scoring (almost non-scoring) point. I've seen very few Golden Age fighters kick the leg systematically. In fact Kaensak, when he trained me many years ago in New Jersey told me: "Don't kick the leg, that's not a point." when I threw a low kick.

    • @dragb6281
      @dragb6281 6 лет назад

      Oh so leg kick is just for doing damage ?

    • @8limbsUs
      @8limbsUs  6 лет назад +3

      I wonder if it was scored differently in the Golden Age, by which I mean even less. But in contemporary Muay Thai it isn't a score unless you can distort someone either physically or psychologically. If you can build up the damage (no points) to the degree that you are wobbling your opponent, or getting them to flinch or shy away, then the points start to come.

    Oh man I feel like I just found gold with this watch with me. Does anyone know if she has ever trained with Jean Charles Skarbowsky? I know she trains with legendary thai fighters but there have been farang who have dominated in thai land such as skarbowsky and ramon deckers.

    • @8limbsUs
      @8limbsUs  5 лет назад

      I haven't yet, but I have talked with him about it and hope to catch a session with Skarbowsky the next time he comes to BKK. He has a bew baby, so his schedule is swamped.

    • @CheetoChop1
      @CheetoChop1 5 лет назад

      @@8limbsUs I can appreciate that for sure. We don't see much thai fighting here in the US on tv or anywhere else. The fighters I mentioned are well known here however particularly for their muay thai and are some of my favorite fighters cuz muay thai is just sick. So it's nice to see some thai legends I did not know much about before you. Sometimes I wish a thai fighter would have came to the US rather than the BJJ family that took out all the bullshido here. Today the ufc probably would look more like thai fighting rather than mostly grappling. Not hating but striking is just more exciting both as a spectator and a fighter. Looking forward to more of your videos. I practiced your punch against a pole and hit it so hard I pushed myself back a lot. I liked stupid lol. Just wasn't expecting to generate so much power since I basically just tapped it. Thanks.
