filing for bankruptcy doesn't mean you are poor. It mean you are protecting your assets, jeez.
People file for bankruptcy when they can't pay their debts, and the courts are very harsh if you can't explain every penny in your possession as well as anything that could be sold to pay debts. My parents just went through it. You have to provide a list of all assets and their value. It is all about settling your debts - often at a lower amount. Your assets aren't protected. What you have gets divided up between your creditors. You just don't end up with a negative balance at the end. I don't know how much might be left after everything is settled. My parents are OK because they got some money from a lawsuit involving a previous lawyer. The bankruptcy court got some of their winnings too.
If someone has one million dollars and can't cover his debts, he isn't rich because that million is owed to someone.
I could see a company filing for bankruptcy to protect their assets, but I don't know the details on how that works. I do know some companies come out OK afterwards.

The only one that I can respect and understand is Kate, the reason being is that money is being used on college. She's trying to live on a budget now, and honestly when raising 8 kids money goes fast, or your not on everyone employment list. In a situation that the kids get sick, all of them could all at once meaning a huge cost on company insurance and ability to be at work at certain days.

You would think a celebrity that used to make $500,000 an episode for a successful TV show would have a lot more than 2 million in the bank. Like Heidi said in this video, it was probably all spent on useless shit like clothes, fast cars, make up, publicists...it's a harsh lesson to learn that no matter how rich you are you still need to count your pennies.
also I think all the people who are saying "I could do so much with that $2 million" are imagining their current lives with more money in it. That's not a celebrity's lifestyle. Celebrities have people on their payroll, they've got to pay a manager, an agent, a personal assistant. Plus you're expected to live in particular neighborhoods, be styled in a particular manner, send any children you have to particular schools... that $2 million gets eaten up real quick.

I completely agree with those that say that those celebrities that spend hard fast are idiots. Yes you have all this money but you just splash it on fast cars and high fashion...that ain't smart. Especially when if you really think about an actor is paid by commission: they get paid per movie, not an annual salary. One box office box or a failed TV show could ruin an actor at any moment, hence why it's really important to watch what you're spending. No matter how rich you are: never live a life outside your means.

all of these people were rich, though. not corrupt politician rich, maybe, but worth millions and for whatever reason squandered/mismanaged it. some of them have limited earning potential as a celebrity, if any significant potential at all. but, at one time, they could all have been considered rich.

Don't live beyond your means. Live frugally and save. Invest part of your money to grow so you have something to live on when you become a senior citizen. If you plan on getting married, get a prenuptial agreement. Practice birth control. Raising a kid costs $200,000 per child, $500,000 per child if you're wealthy.
It all comes to not wasting more than you're getting and saving a little bit. Have as many kids as you'll like, as long as you can keep up with the expenses.

I think people's mentality nowadays is "live for today". I see a lot of young couples who have 2,3 or 4 kids and it boggles my mind how they can afford that. I don't think a lot of people are really thinking of the future and how they are going to afford things, let alone their kids. I grew up in the 70s and 80s, and it was more affordable back then. Today, the cost of raising children is just insane! Kids require more today, not to mention they want all the latest gadgets/iPhones, etc....and hope and pray your kids do good in school so they can get a scholarship to go to college. I know this sounds harsh, but you basically have to be a millionaire to raise a family.

So many of these kinds of people are just too dang lazy or ignorant to handle their own affairs. They let managers, accoutants, whatever deal with it, and those folks look out for themselves first. If you are making a lot of money, and you have no idea where it's all going, you soon won't have any to worry about.

Since many people float around the zero mark, it's just a case of bigger overdrafts, a million instead of a thousand etc. What makes someone genuinely rich is if they are up a few quid every week rather than down.
