I'll add my thanks, was frustrated after receiving vehicle after a cosmetic repair. it was doing the same thing and when i informed the shop the threw up their hands. they disconnected the battery and connected it. After searching the internet, I came across this video and it saved me days of aggravation. I gave it a thumbs up and subscribed.
Unfortunately this did not work. I dont understand how this doesn't call for a lawsuit or a recall considering its there base model radio thats faulty across multipal lines of vehicles

@@tyler114050 Thank you, but I did not mean notice as an official notice or recall notice. I mean that the vehicle had no indications of anything wrong prior to this happening. Nor had I recently had any maintenance performce that might have inadvertently caused the radio to malfunction.
Thank you for this info. I didn't my drive Rav4 for almost 4 weeks and infotainment sys was in the reboot mode. Your solution worked on the first try after others had failed. This is very much appreciated and I wonder how much a dealer would have charged me to fix this prob.
I don't know if they even know about this. They would probably replace the radio which can be over $5k i work at a dealer i try this first before replacing radio. This is a known issue on toyota
WORKED. 2019 Rav4. Hope it sticks.. Turn on ignition position 2 (don't start engine), put it in reverse, go to ignition position 1. You'll only see the backup camera displayed. Park brake will be on so don't worry. Leave it in reverse for 10 mins, put in park, turn off ignition, hopefully it boots normally. I also deleted all personal settings just to give her a new start in life. PS- hope it sticks.
Worked on a 2019 Rav4 Adventure. Radio kept rebooting after battery change. Keeping it for 5 minutes in "Reverse" then restarting the car worked like a charm. Thanks!

Turn car ON. Put parking brake on. Put on reverse gear. Wait for 5 + min. Put gear on parking. Radio etc all will come back normal.set auto update software. Simple 😂

Couldn't get it to work. My new RAV4 adventure started rebooting every 30 seconds several weeks ago. I've tried a couple of fixes without success. My Toyota dealer says they have never heard of this problem. (That's a good one.) And, besides they don't have a Master technician who can work on this. I get the impression that the last technician walked out on them. I've even tried to get information from the Toyota company. HA, ha ha!
I have the same issue on my 2018 highlander. They did update and changed the head unit. Still having issue where it will reboot while im driving. Toyota says the the new headunit is the problem. Now waiting over month to get a nee headunit. Ill try putting in reverse. Thanks
@FishKepr Sometimes. Now there are times when the radio system will turn on by itself, or the volume will go up or down by itself. We haven't found anything that works.

Apparently leave it in reverse for 10 minutes ( according to the service manager at the dealership I deal with). After 10 minutes, put it back into Park and turn the ignition off, get out of the vehicle and lock the doors. Wait a while before getting back in ( I’ve waited overnight ). The next day after a couple m8nutes the “ radio” worked again the first two times this happened. The third time ( in August ) I tried this 3 days in a row. It didn’t work. I made an appointment with the dealership but couldn’t get in for 12 days. Three days before the appointment the radio started working again. I told the service guy that when I brought in the vehicle but he said they had a “ firmware update” that should fix the issue. They hooked a trickle charger on the small 12 volt battery ( my RAV4 is a hybrid ) that powers the infotainment system and tried the download for about an hour and a half. I got the call that the vehicle was ready for pickup. When I got there, the service guy told me what had been done on the vehicle and told me that the firmware update did not complete. The “ Tech“ ( mechanic ) was right there and also told me it wouldn’t complete and he had no idea why. The most ridiculous part was the Service guy said “ since the Update didn’t complete I couldn’t charge you for it”!!!! I said, “ charge me? This vehicle is less than a year and a half old and still under warranty. We didn’t buy a RAV4 Limited Hybrid with a non functioning multimedia system. If there’s any cost to any repairs you can bill Toyota through the warranty system! He didn’t like that. Toyota quality and customer service has gone totally down the shitter.

It hasn’t happened since mid August ( cross my fingers ) and the first time was in mid May 2024 after the our 2023 RAV4 was just over a year old. I did the r3verse for 10 minute thing and it didn’t work right away but 5he next morning my wife called me to say it was working again. Then early July it happened again and the same result the next morning.after the “ reverse trick “ . Then also about 5-6 weeks later it happened for a third time and the “ trick didn’t work even though I tried it 2 or 3 times 3 days in a row and again a few days later. Toyota wants a ton of money to replace the “ head unit “ ( I’ve heard from $3000-$10,000 ) so if you’re past your warranty mileage or the three year bumper to bumper then you’re on the hook. I’ve reported the 3rd time it happened and the dealership had a problem downloading the “ firmware “ as it said “ not completed”. The service guy and the mechanic Sami they had no idea why it didn’t work and what to do about it. That’s “ nice” but this shop needs to figure it out or Toyota needs to teach this “ Tech “ how to do the download, plus I shouldn’t have to pay for the “ diagnostic “ whether the download worked or not. It’s Toyota’s responsibility to give me a functioning Multimedia unit at THEIR cost.
@Zeek800 I've never had any issue downloading the software for these radio I know once you download it onto usb drive you start the car and leave it running then plug the USB in and go to software update and it should say new verson found then hit install amd it will install it on the head unit. Sound like they don't know what they doing
@ my attempt was the dealership trying to install it. They couldn’t “ complete” the download but the system hasn’t gone into reboot cycle since August 12th??? I was under the impression that the online loading of a USB had been shut down by Toyota, but maybe it’s just that they charge for it even if you do it yourself. I have no idea where a USB would fit in my 2023 Rav4hybrid.

Yes, this also worked for me on my 2021 Highlander Hybrid. Note that the process in the video won't work for this vehicle, because if in park when accessory mode is on, it cannot be shifted into reverse.
@@Nickthecarguy That stinks! These Toyota radios are horrible. I already had to replace the original one that was 2 years old in my 2018 4runner thank goodness that one was still under warranty. This one is now 4 years old and this problem just started last week. I even removed the head unit from the dash and checked all the wiring. It seemed good. I then removed the SD card a few days later and that was the problem I believe because it hasn't rebooted in 2 days. Is there an update to the Nav system maybe for your car. If you find a solution can you post because my son just bought a 23 Tacoma TRD PRo with the same head unit I think. No problems yet though.
@petertetukevich5437 only fix is either update the radio unit to the latest software. Or try the reverse as in this video. Only other thing is replace the radio . These radio are a known issue on toyota I see them almost every day having this problem

The vehicle is just under a year and a half old, but it seems like dealerships don’t want to fix this they just want you to get a new info system which I’ve heard prices of $2000 to $7000 and even some guys saying $15,000. We should have received a letter from Toyota by now stating that this is known issue , and they will extend the. Warranty on. This repair to 10+ years at NO COST to the owner. How on Earth can these guys put a crap info / safety system in a vehicle and try to dismiss it or not take responsibility for it? This has been happening on most of Toyota’s vehicles for at least 7-10 years so they know it’s happening. I wouldn’t have bought this vehicle if I knew this issue existed. I’m not shelling out $2000 to $10,000 plus on a part of the vehicle that is a non-wear part of the vehicle and contains the media, safety functions and information of the car! Toyota has gone way downhill!

I was having the same problem on my 2018 4runner rebooting every minute or so. Really annoying I tried all these tricks it didn't work. I then was about to buy a new head unit when I decided to remove the NAV micro SD card and boom no more rebooting. I don't use the NAV so that is fine .

The navigation ecu losses communication with radio dcm .
5 minutes in reverse and then restart the ignition fixed the problem! Thank you!

This is a known issue. There is a tsb to update the radio if that don't fix it then the radio need to be replaced

Try removing the micro SD card for NAVIGATION it worked for my 2018 4runner. I don't have Navigation but I use my phone for that anyway.
