- HUGE thanks to hodge555 for posting a near-pristine 1080p copy of this game on his RUclips channel a week ago - here is a link to it -- • Video -- I took his copy and used Topaz Video AI to further sharpen it and clear up compression artifacts. The recording was very dark and I achieved a MAJOR brightening of the picture using Da Vinci Resolve -- see the before/after screenshots here -- imgbox.com/g/h... -- I also spliced in portions of the broadcast from another source that were missing - the quality of which are nowhere near as good. This included a bit of pregame, the halftime highlights, and the sign-off. I also tacked on postgame interviews and news coverage that I had on hand as well.
One of the greatest Monday night games ever. The biggest win the Packers had after super bowl 2, up until this game. Thanks for posting.
One of the all-time great MNF games. The Skins lost two RS games that year, both on MNF, both by a single point. That's how close they came to a perfect 16-0 RS.
Would have been talked about as one of the best ever except for those pesky Raiders
I watched this game live on a 19 inch black and white portable TV. I was a Senior in high school and was finishing up my homework as this game kicked off. I'm not sure I made it all the way to the end of the game but I can see and smell my old room in my parents house all those years ago. Thanks for posting this classic and allowing me, at least in my mind, to wander backwards to relive some happy memories.
Fun game here people! This one beats my copy!! I am glad you are finding alternate sources! Great work.
🎶”Turn out the lights, the party’s over” starts at 2:43:05
RIP Dandy Don!
Wow!! I can't believe how clear this is...the original live telecast wasn't this clear. Amazing!
I didn’t know they had HDTV in 1983! Great job and thank you for doing what you do!
Wow! You did a good job restoring this. Well done.
I seldom ever missed watching a Packers game. My wife and I had friends from Tucson visiting and took them out to eat at the Carlton. I missed the whole game but caught the last few minutes on the radio. They were not football fans and I was obligated to entertain them. Here we are Aug 2024 and I finally get to watch it!!!
Bart Starr I remember got so much heat as a coach. In my opinion some of it was unjustified. Bart Starr LOVED this team and he loved playing here, and he was so proud to become the head coach of the team Vince Lombardi coached and the team he played Quarterback for. This team had some great games, and some really good players. James Lofton, Lynn Dickey, John Jefferson, Jan Stenerud, and others. They're defense was really good at times, and their offense could explode, as they did in this game. The Packers however had bouts, many bouts of inconsistency. On both sides of the ball inconsistencies plagued them. I forget some of the specifics but a few times the Packers were "predicted" to be potential contenders for the playoffs and their division title, only to fall short. Being able to go back and watch one of the most exciting, iconic, historic, and crazy games ever seen on Monday Night Football. This is one of those games that NEEDS to be preserved! One of those games that so many people remember. Thank you again.
As a kid I loved Lynn Dickey! In my opinion this was the highest of his high moments! Thank you for immortalizing this game. Great, great stuff.
Lynn Dickey. Imagine this guy with a quality defense supporting him.
I imagine that all those draft picks somebody gave up for a washed up QB would probably be right about in their prime right about this season…if they were used on defense, but GM wasn’t very good at that time either.
Thank you for continuing the great work of enhancing these games and uploading them. I'm an old Redskins fan (who is still annoyed by that first touchdown call), and, whether it's the Skins or other teams, these classic games are a real treat. I appreciate all of your excellent work.
This 83 Washington team still holds the all-time single season record for turnover margin at +43. They forced 61 turnovers, and only committed 18.
They also scored more points than any other team in NFL history. The record stood until the Minnesota Vikings broke it in 1998.

The picture quality of this is amazing. The graphics just pop like they were made today. Now only if Topaz could remove OJ from the broadcast……
I remember watching this game. Great memory from my sophomore year of highschool.
Thanks again Dave! You are the best!
Thank you for doing this for the community.
ATG MNF Game! Thanks for doing this!
Dan Marino’s Shea Stadium (NYC) debut 1:18:40
for years, this was the highest scoring game in monday night history.
DC's placekicker Mark Moseley and GB's quarterback Lynn Dickey were teammates with the Houston Oilers in the 1970s
Fun fact about this game: Current Green Bay Packer's CEO Mark Murphy (who went undrafted) actually played Safety in this game... for Washington, BUT Green Bay also happened to have a Safety who went undrafted named Mark Murphy on the team for this game.
My mark murphy can beat up your mark murphy.
Sorry for being so late...
Don Meredith: "that's why they don't run."
The defense was atrocious and the ground game non-existent. Thank goodness Lynn at least had world class receiving.
This was the Jackyl and Hyde Packer team that would beat a good team one week and lose to a crappy team a week later!!!
Housing projects say that today on air.
Richard Todd five interceptions, Brian Sipe - 6, plus Cleveland fumble recovered for Pittsburgh score. And we critique today's QB's!
9:21 this is the play that doomed the Skins in Super Bowl XVIII. Just as bad of a result here!
Should've been an incomplete only
Ray Guy's 27-yard punt pinned Washington back at their own 12-yard line with 12 seconds left in the half. From there, head coach Joe Gibbs had Theismann run a screen play called "Rocket Screen", but Raiders linebacker Jack Squirek intercepted the pass and returned it for a touchdown to give the Raiders a 21-3 halftime lead. The defense was prepared for the play, as Theismann had successfully completed an identical screen pass to Joe Washington for a 67-yard gain in their 37-35 victory over the Raiders on October 2. In fact, Los Angeles linebackers coach Charlie Sumner had sent Squirek onto the field as a last-second substitution specifically to cover Washington. "I was mad," said linebacker Matt Millen, who had to run off the field to avoid a penalty. "I'd called a blitz, and I was cranked up for it, but he told Jack to play the screen and sent him in. I guess Charlie knows what he's doing, huh?"[18]

Wow some ending‼️
I remember this game. 1983 was the year I became a full-time football fan. I was nine years old. Dave do you have the KC vs Seattle. It was a 51-48 OT win for the Seahawks.
Did that one 5 months ago :) -- ruclips.net/video/hxK2_S7zZ8Y/видео.html
Great great football game
8:32 The future Packers President was on field this night playing for Washington Redskins, Mark Murphy and Packers Hall of Famer playing for Packers Mark Murphy, but will a second Mark Murphy be inducted into Packers hall of fame soon, one bald and other a redhead?
no mention of phil bengston or dan devine
I love the 1980s football because i was born in 83 but wow this look like a 1973 game
This game should’ve propelled GB to a Division title and playoff run …. But it never happened
I just uploaded the 1983 NFC championship game if you want to grab that and have a go at it.
Can't watch OJ
Washington’s missed field goal starts at 2:41:00
I’ve always wondered when it became legal to spike the ball to stop clock instead of throwing it out of bounds, when I started watching in 1990 I don’t remember being required to do that.
@@travismiller4320 I never thought about that until now.
I always thought that maybe Gary Lewis might have gotten a finger on that ball, because not only was it wide, but it was short, barely made it to the goal line.
This game was past my bedtime, but I couldn't sleep because I was too excited about the Packers being on TV. It didn't help that my dad and uncle were in the room next door, cheering on. I kept getting up, after each touchdown, and watching the replays. Thus, I was able to watch the whole game. But that was on a black and white TV with less than ideal reception. Now I get to watch the game in full color and with stunning clarity. Thank you, Dave.
Another Dave Volsky Classic! This is one of those games that DESERVE it too. It's definitely in the top 5 greatest MNF games of all time.
This game was a classic. The enhancements made to this video made this game look so much better.
possibly the most exciting regular season game of the 83 season. dave i'm still keeping my fingers crossed that someday you come across the chiefs-dolphins double overtime game xmas day 1971 and the immaculate reception game in their entirety.😉
@robfalter2522, I'm 58 years old, a Chiefs fan since I was 5, and I am still not over that game. A small part of me hopes Dave doesn't find that '71 game. If I watch it, it's back to therapy for me...😪
Awesome. Performance from. The packer offense. Lynn. Dickey Shouldve made the. Pro. Bowl. In 83. Led the nfl in yards. Tds and yards per. Completion a joke he didnt make it Starr had the worst defense in 83 gave up.439 pts deplorable shouldvd traded for Mike Haynes
really cool seeing Dandy Don interviewing Bart Starr
Hoping we can get the NFL championship games Starr played vs Dandy Don in 66 and 67
What a great game! Phenomenal quality for an NFL broadcast from this era, thanks so much for posting!!! 🙏
An O.J. cringe moment.... 50:22
Doing wonderful things with these games, looks (and sounds) amazing. Wish Howard was there for this one.
15:47 FWIW, it was Clint Didier (#86) who recovered.
I forgot how much I loved watching Riggins run behind this offensive line. Also, this Packers team, while the picture of inconsistency, were 3 OT losses and a 2-pt, season-ending loss in Chicago from being 12-4. Four times they scored 41-or-more points but only had an 8-8 season to show for it in the end, and Bart Starr was gone.
17:07 Another instance of the home team using one end zone to feature the visiting team in some way. Can't say I mind that. It kind of says "big game."
Man, that color commentator -- didn't catch his name, some kind of initials -- seems like a really laid-back, jolly fellow.
Hail, to the Redskins!
Hail, Victory!
Braves, on the Warpath!
Fight! For old D.C!
Run or pass and score we want a lot more!
Beat ’em swamp ’em touchdown let the points soar!
Fight on, fight on, till you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton, RAH! RAH! RAH!
Hail, to the Redskins!
Hail, Victory!
Braves, on the Warpath!
Fight! For old D.C!
I love how Dandy blows OJ off at 57:20 when OJ wonders why quarterbacks are not better coaches. Love Dandy, cannot stand OJ, even before he cut the head off his, uh, well, you know...
@krisschedler O.J. cringe moment.... 50:22
This game was a microcosm of the 1983 season. Offense was a powerhouse; defense couldn't stop anyone. Even the record (8-8) validates it.
This was pre-cheesehead days. No fans wearing them. Another oddity was one end zone with two burgundy helmets painted on, without the Redskins logo.
This may be Dave's best work. THIS is pristine! It's almost like watching a recent game, live and in HD. Incredible work.
NFL football was so much better in the 80s, players didn’t get penalized for a hard hit. No stopping the game for a video review and no political BS on the field or on players helmets.
One of the best MNF games ever!
1:05:24 one of rarest and craziest plays I've ever seen the Packers try! Not only was it amazing, but it was also incredibly effective! This game really had it all.
Great game. Unfortunately we have to listen to ramblings of OJ. A bad analyst. A worse human being.
10:00 Jack Squirek would later intercept for a TD on the same exact play
I was there, great game!
Mark Murphy of Washington would become, and is, the Packers ceo
Rip Hall of Fame Legends OJ Simpson Frank Gifford Bart Starr And (Dandy)Don Meredith
14:54 why are there maroon colored helmets in the end zone in Lambeau Field?
Thanks for posting it's too bad the packer defense was so awful
I've got this game on dvd 📀 jamie 😊
This was the Washington Redskins best team ever. The only game they played poorly in was Super Bowl XVIII against the Raiders.
Week 1 MNF against Dallas?
Great game, why didn't Theismann spike the ball on his last snap instead of throwing it out of bounds? That could've been intercepted
Spiked passes were penalized then. Intentional grounding. They threw it out of bounds in those days because there was a receiver in the vicinity. That spike clock stop became legal later in the 1980’s
@@johnliberty3647 got it, thanks for explaining
Great quality video. We need the enire 1980's basketball seasons like this. Then we need every heavyweight and welterweight boxing match from the 1970's.
My heavens, Dave, is there anything you can't do? How are you with HVAC units? Fuel injection systems? Rocket engines? Your channel has become the go-to channel for me. I teach middle school, and when I get home to decompress with a cigar, I spin up your channel asking myself "What magic has Dave worked up today?" When you take more than a day or two I'm bummed out. You have spoiled me, Dave. I venture to say you have spoiled a bunch of us...
Wow, WOW! Once again sir, you have nailed a memory of mine. As I've said before I grew up in Milwaukee during the 70's to the 2000's and the Packers were my favorite team. This particular game however was absolutely insane. The excitement level was off the charts. I remember being so tired that next day. This game really got my "Packer fever" going 1000%. Thank you for once again giving me such a special memory. Thank you and God Bless you.
I remember this game. It was probably the last NFL game I got excited about for a bunch of different reasons
And it was the Washington Mark Murphy who became Packers CEO...
Do you have the full 1972 halftime show and full 1981 I want to see them
Im a new subscriber and I
Amazing work on a lost game of the NFLs greatest games!
Due to recency bias everyone talks about the Rams/Chiefs game from 2018 as the best MNF game ever (disagree as it's too many point scored for my liking), but this game between the Redskins, and Packers was just as good in my opinion. Thanks for uploading.
Thanks, that was an awesome game!
