    I had a doctor tell me a crock of BS and then the nurse proved him wrong and he still would not admit to me that he was wrong. Good that you had a nurse looking out for you dad's welfare.

    Thanks Andy, much appreciated. It's been my experience with Dad and his many stays in the hospital that it's the nurses that do the bulk of the care giving. Almost all of the ones treating Dad have been great. Some of the Drs are pretty good too but many of them have over inflated egos.
    Take care,
    Rob

    Thx... Sorry to hear about your Mom. My mom died from ovarian cancer in 1994. Seeing how much pain she was in was something I couldn't handle at the time. Dad lives with us so hoping to have a lot more time with him. It's hard watching a loved one's health deteriorate.

    Thanks Sarge. The real kudos go to my wife. For the most part, she has been the caregiver to Dad. I can't say we would never consider putting Dad in a home but he would have to be in such a bad state that he would need 24 hr nursing care (hospice) or be a danger to himself or us. It would be a very last resort and would not be a decision taken lightly.

    Thx... Yeah cancer is one diagnosis nobody wants to ever hear. Glad that you are beating it. Hope you continue to stay healthy and free from it.

    Thx az. For each of them "better" tends to be the days they aren't in complete misery. Seems to be a vicious cycle back and forth.

    Thanks. "Better" around here these days is relative. It tends to go from just "serious" to "crisis" pretty quick.

    So sorry your father, or anyone, has to go through this! And I know it's hard for you and your family to deal with also. Much grace to you as this is worked out!

    URRGH! Nurses and doctors seem to be the same all over the world mate. We have been through hell and high water with Mrs Peachy's granddad. There seems to be no end in sight of a tale that defies belief! My sympathies for the strain that you and your family are under and please tell your dad you have a friend in Gibraltar who wishes him well! Chris.

    Thanks Chris I will let him know. Yeah it does seem like an unending tale of disbelief. He gets a little better, he gets a little worse (same with the wife's dad). It's been the same for both dad's since last November. It wears you out.

    You are a good man RC, for dealing with all this. Most or should I say, Some people don't put as much time into caring for family members. They just put them into a home and let them go..

  • @RC62
    @RC62  11 лет назад

    Thanks Bill. I know your trips down here have been mostly taking care of family so you know how it goes. I'm glad they stopped the feeding tube too. Dad is able to eat pretty well (small amounts at a time) but he isn't taking enough water and he is very weak. Last couple of days he hasn't been able to stand well and has nearly fallen. He managed to easy down to the floor one time but was sitting on his legs causing a lot of pain. Lifting 150 LBs of dead weight off the floor wasn't easy.

    My Dad is a retired WWII Navy veteran so he gets some healthcare from the VA (Veterans Association). His primary is the Medicare system but they only pay %80. The rest is on him to pay. Thing is he doesn't have any money other than Social Security (very little at that) and is putting a lot on credit. He'll never be able to pay it...

    Take care of your family first :D My Father-in-law had cancer, he still has the port, and he had the feeding tube as well :( The tube was a big hassle, once a month he had to go to the ER because the tube came out. I hope everything gets better in the future!

  • @RC62
    @RC62  11 лет назад

    Thx Josh. Dad is a bit better now that he doesn't think he's going to die from trying to eat (or not eating). Amazing what your own mind can do as far as how you feel... If I've learned anything its that you should always question and challenge doctor recommendations. Sometimes the recommended cure causes more problems.

    When my mom was in and out of the Hospital, we'd get the impression they were sucking insurance money. Never less than seven and no more than fourteen days she would be there. I kinda don't trust their motives. Good on you for arguing the feeding tube.
    Best wishes RC!

    Gosh, I do feel for you and your family. I'm a nurse and do you know what. Doctors are NOT. The godlike beings they are portrayed as in so many medical series. They make mistakes. Lots of them. And they fill patients with lots of toxic drugs, that often do more harm than good. Thank heaven some common sense prevailed. All the best to you and your family. Andy

    Yep, I feel it in myself the older I get. Simple things become difficult, body hurts in places you'd never imagine. Watching Dad I get a good look at what is coming in the not so distant future. Of course, even though getting old is a bitch, it sure beats the hell out of the alternative. :D

  • @RC62
    @RC62  11 лет назад

    Yeah some of the tests they kept ordering didn't make any sense. They wanted to do an MRI to see if a stroke caused the swallowing problem... He'd been vomiting non-stop for 2 weeks solid! duh! The whole tube thing wasn't necessary but they got my dad convinced he'd die without it. Obviously he was eating or he would not have been constipated and blocked up. Thank goodness the nurse saw what was going on and talked to Dad and the Dr and convinced them not to do it.

  • @206pappy

    Funny how it goes like that. 90% of the time it's a nurse who really does the proper or correct diagnosis and gets shit done right. Like many of the others here I've been down this same road with my Pop and I don't envy your situation. Best of luck to all involved. They're trying times but we do what we gotta do.

  • @RC62
    @RC62  11 лет назад

    Thx... Yeah, most of the nurses Dad has had were great. Took really good care of him. The doctors on the other hand come in for less than 5 minutes a day acting like they know what's going on and they don't have a clue.

    Hehe... You got that right. My Dad has always been there for me. Always! Now it's my turn to be there for him. I'm trying... :D
    btw... Soon I may not even have the hair thing going for me. It's turning gray and starting to come out from all the stress.

  • @RC62
    @RC62  11 лет назад

    Thank you. Sorry to hear about your father in-law. Yeah I know if Dad had the tube he'd be pulling it out or undoing the clip and letting the contents spill out. If needed to keep him alive I don't object to the tube but in this case they were jumping the gun on recommending it. In fact now that Dad is home and not thinking he will starve or inhale food, he has been a lot better and is actually getting up and walking around the house (with his walker and help of course).

    Cancer is a bitch, i wont go in to grisly detail but i survived that shit myself, got clean bill of health last year in march, but i still have the port installed if it comes back. My hair turned gray too by the way :) I sincerely wish your dad will get better soon. Take care.

    Yeah you gotta watch out for the doctors. They think and often act as though they have some kinda omnipotent knowledge and power. I argued with him about it. He was adamant he knew best. That is until the next day when the nurse showed him otherwise.

    What gets me is I, along with my family, were telling the doctor he could swallow and eat on his own. His throat was just raw from the vomiting. He was eating food fine, how else would he have an intestinal blockage?
    Thx... :D

    You can pick your nose but you can't pick your family, however sometimes family can be buggers. But they are still your family and you are all they have sometimes, as sometimes they are all you have. Take care of em as you are. (Besides, you still have that hair thing going for ya.)
