      I'm really happy ModCarterBot :-D Go for it and don't let doubt ever hold you back. I started skating when I was 18.

    Love watching these. I am 37 years old and back at it after 25 years. I used to land double jumps and single Axels but oh boy is it not like riding a bike! Edge-work for me for at least a year before I attempt any jumps :) If you have any advice, I am all ears :)
    Warmest regards and God bless,
    Paul

    I got the chance to try this in today's early morning freestyle. Unsurprisingly, I'm far more stable on my left leg than my right - which is also true of my swingrolls, power pulls, etc. I've always loved doing your knee bend exercise because it causes other skaters to stare at me, so now I have another one to mystify them with! Thanks for sharing!

      LOL keep at it and be proud, as I didn't invent these exercises, some of the greatest skating coaches did.

    I've worked on this off skates in front of a mirror, then on skates both forward and backwards. This exercise really brings home the point that just because a skater has good edges doing figure technique, does not mean they will have good edges with a deeper knee bend and greater free leg range of motion. The more static positions have their time and place, but the greater range of motion is ultimately what's needed for dance and freeskating moves.

    Thank you so much! I was really scared of edges bc I had no control whatsoever.... But I'm getting better now!!! Thanks to you

      Glad to help Jelena!! Do lots of off ice training to reduce the amount of injuries that will result from falls and you won't be scared anymore :-)

    Even though this appears simple, I can see where this is an important building block exercise for more difficult skills involving crisp changes of direction and active edges. I will try this on all the edges the next time I get to the rink.

      Yeah, it and other exercises like it as well as power and flow exercises are designed to develop a solid foundation in you.

    What type of off ice training do you both do and will you do any videos on them? It's very nice to see you have new partner, good luck and thanks!

    • @OlegAltukhov
      @OlegAltukhov  7 лет назад +4

      Thanks Zynthia!! We work with a personal fitness trainer on strength and agility. We do flexibility exercises as well (stretching as well as balance exercises). We will try to get to them, but the best thing to do is to go to a gym and ask a fitness trainer to teach strength, agility, and flexibility exercises appropriate for you. This topic is as broad as skating, and in order to see real gains, it has to become a way of life.

    Oleg if you change skating partner, does that mean you are not allowed to compete for a while? (some ISU rule?)

    • @OlegAltukhov
      @OlegAltukhov  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Peter, no there is a rule regarding what country you represent, but as we're both for the US, we're free to compete this year. If a skater represents one country, then decides to represent another country, then they may be subject to a period of time where they can't compete. My understanding is that this has mostly to do with National Team members, as the federations of some countries invest heavily in their athletes, as well as to discourage "representation tourism."
