Thanks for the information, Pete. I would like to add if you plan on renting a motorbike, car, jet ski please take pictures and videos of the vehicle because when you return and if there's damages on there that you didn't cause, it will cost you.
Things may have changed in the past year, but when I used either the Bolt or Grab app, I didn't need a Thai phone number. I had a data-only ESim plan and it worked fine in both Hua Hin and Chiang Mai.
@@peteonretreat2023 Yes, there's no functional difference between an esim and a sim card. An esim with a data-only plan is much cheaper than one with a phone number (which is, of course available if you need it and want to pay for the service).
I've recently been wondering about the water situation. Thanks for the info👍 What about simple things like rinsing fruits/veg? Do you use the same water you brush your teeth with?
I’ve been washing my fruits and Biggies with tap water. So far, no problem after 2 years. I’m not sure it’s the best advice though. The machine water would definitely be safer.
I guess it can happen but I have ice in my drink every time I go out. Water, soda, cocktails, even beer and wine sometimes and I’ve never gotten sink. Probably close to 1000 drinks now.
Thanks Pete! I was wondering about the SIM card. What the best months to come to Thailand? I don’t want to come during the burning season! See you soon…
Most people say come between November and February. It’s the coolest and the driest. The burning starts in March but usually isn’t bad until late in the month.
@@BO-mb8rr there’s several booths at all of the international airports for the different mobile providers (AIS, DTAC, TRUE, etc) Just go to a both (I like AIS for Pattaya), pick a plan and pay (it has to be cash in local currency so get your currency first) They will put the SIM card in your phone and get you all set up or you can do it yourself. Just keep your old SIM to put back in your phone at the end of your trip.
Great list of 10 things you should know Pete. My days of 'fighting" are long gone 555. I have watched some Thai fights because of disputes on the beach road promenade. Would add do not take videos of Thais fighting as it can set them off more as i have witnessed. Likely a whole video could be made on all the vloggers and people who do or do not like being filmed. it is a fact of life here nowadays
Yeah, I try not to film people in general. I’ll blur out people when I can tell they don’t want to be filmed like the folks in front of the pharmacy in this video.
Buy a 50 baht SIM card from 7/11 or any shop selling them. Use your coins and small notes to top up with a data package at the many machines outside shops.
I hear that but I just feel better having the sim before I even leave the airport. Just a security feeling thing for me. Funny since I grew up in the days before mobile/cell phones.
Do not helping another countries is good advice. I was a state department contractor for years, you're not in America you have no protections and you are basically just considered a revenue source, if you're able to be turned into one by the locals. Do not involve your stuff in any local drama or issues. Multiple times US tourists didn't understand the culture, and didn't understand a woman's place.. they tried to step in and then they went to prison, it was very expensive for them to get out.
Thank you. 🙏🏼 I’m not sure how well I can change my accent. Born and raised Southern California skate punk hippie with a touch of Texas twang. I’ll try to use my manager voice a bit more.
Rentals of motorbikes and cars your home country insurance and even travel insurance almost never cover you in Thailand, and the rental companies here don't ask or tell you. I have been here a year and had a few mistakes on my "bar bin" a couple times they fixed it and we can still have a good time. On the other side a couple places got me for an extra drink and I just don't go back.

Thumbs up 👍 Pete

I hope you found it helpful.
Wow that was a great one !!
Wow, thank you 🙏🏼
I’ve seen a few people upset about the dry holiday this month.
Have a nice day krab 🤗😊👍🎉🎊
Many thanks 🙏🏼
Great advice for those who haven't been to Thailand...and a great reminder for those of us who have!
Thank you 🙏🏼

That makes since. The ESIM works as a SIM card in this case maybe?

Esims usually have a thai number associated to it. I used airalo esim and it had a thai number
I first went to Thailand in 1998 and one of the 1st things i was told if you see an accident walk away
I was surprised when our CPR instructor said different. None of the taxi drivers help except to guide traffic.

I never drink cocktails as I once got sick from ice in a cocktail

A lot of credit cards don't charge fees these days. Amazon, Sams club, etc. Carry cash with you and use CC.
I usually don’t bring my CC with me. I just don’t want to risk losing it. I do use the scan pay feature from my Thai bank on my phone a lot though.
What’s the name of the city your in now, heard you mention it but not sure how to spell it
I think officially I am in Pattaya but its the Pratumnak area. My side of Pratumnak Hill is known as Cosy Beach or Kasetsin.

How and where do you get a Thai phone number while vacationing there so you can setup different apps?

you always can get a Emergency Passport at your embassy
I knew there had to be a way of dealing with it but I imagine it’s not too easy.

I was talking to a friend last night and he told me of a couple bars that he no longer goes too because of bill padding.
Keep some doggie treats on you if you are likely to be going down a backstreet Soi.

Great point no.1. I had no idea what that meant until I looked at my statement. Filthy trick
Yeah, it’s dirty.
Never heard of bolt. Repped. I know grab and uber moto.
I think Uber got pushed out of Thailand. I know it’s not here now at least. I still haven’t tried Maxim but the rates were lower the last I checked.
