- I bought a gun, and everyone i showed it too in england seemed to hate it. After shooting it I became smitten and want it to be loved….
We realised that this gun just didn’t belong in the U.K. and needed to go back to a country where it was loved properly, the country where it was born - the United States of America
After a chance meeting with the team at www.mygunimport.com a month ago at a charity shoot, a plan was hatched to send this and a few of my other guns over to the USA to new slightly more loving homes.
Given that we get a load of messages about the export process I thought I’d share this story of how we discovered how to get a gun from the U.K. to the USA

Volunteer third-party validation here - I've worked with Peter and Greg to import 13 shotguns and a bunch of vintage cases. They have been 100% reliable and transparent. The paperworks has sometimes held things up for a few weeks (which is out of their control). Everything for which they've been responsible was seamless. If you can wait a few months for the process to work out, it's really smooth and reliable. And the guns from Holts are really cool - some of them may be mundane for the UK, but I get asked about them all the time at our local sporting club. I love the Selous Repair on the grip.
Makes me wonder if that gun ended up in the UK from WW2, I have seen articles where there were requests for Americans to send guns to Britain to protect them from invasion. That looks like the type of gun some one would have donated to the cause.
My thought also. I also would bet the grip repair was done in the UK…maybe the rebarrel also.
That could explain the broken grip = used as a club.

@@johnnunn8688The problem with those old double is the there is SO much wood taken out of stock by in letting that it magnifies the forces working on the wrist. 8/10 of the L.C.’s, Parker’s, all of them are split or cracked or rotted away.

That actually makes an interesting proposition. Was just looking up 682s after seeing your vid on it. It would be cheaper for me to buy one from the uk and import to the us than it would be to just buy one here. That's pretty wild.

Looking in the Holt's catalog, I always see guns like your Parker or antique Colt/Smith & Wesson handguns or Winchester rifles (i.e., original 1873, 1885, 1892) or even Winchester model 12 and Ithaca 37's. I must admit my first reaction is the same as yours. These old war horses really need to come home. I have had the same emotions in the past seeing surplus SMLE's sent to the US where many were "sporterized" when to me owning a piece of history would have been enough.
Secondly, your research into the exportation of these guns from the UK has made me think again about attempting to retrieve some of them since it's not as expensive/cost prohibitive as I thought. Keep up the good work!

Video now makes me strongly consider coming over to be at a Holts auction if it is that straight forward to send back to the states.
I don't think I would do anything to that workhorse of a field gun. There is a lot of history and nostalgia in that one. I would try to find the history of it - previous owners, etc. Like most older items, the more documented history you can find the more appealing it becomes.
I enjoy my 2 Ugartechea 12.g and 20 g. Someone gave me an old 16g Stevens side by side. It’s to be a truck gun. He also gave me a Army and Navy 12 g. British gun with hammers. Nice.

I wish old guns with that much character also had voices, or at the least skills to write an autobiography.
I don’t know how difficult it would be. But to trace its history from first ownership to the Holts sale where you bought it would be great.
As for future videos how about one tracing a guns history from manufacture to the present day. And if possible giving an outline of what it’s shot??
That would be awesome if one could trace the owner and get his game books!

It is definitely a " Cat Ballou" gun! Check out the movie and you will understand.
That plate on side of stock is horrendous! Looks like good forest grouse gun if IC or cyl. chokes.
It won't have import marks 1 because it's over 100 years old. 2 it's an American made gun.
American made guns re-imported into the US still get import marks. For example, lots of old S&W revolvers coming back from South America have them as well as the M1 Garand rifles brought back from Korea. Now since this is an antique, it may skip that requirement.
Tranfer Fee at local FFL dealer for handling the transfer, paperwork and FFL requirements start around $25. That is paid by the buyer so is a non-issue for you as the seller.
I love those old Parkers. I have several from the early 20th Century. Someone did more work than the value of the gun warranted. It was definitely a labor of love.

He's a Bubba low skilled gunsmith that waffles a lot of BS but never actually does any real gunmaking.
I don’t think it needs any more restoration that a service and re joint. The patina and buggered stock are part of the charm
I was attempting to add you recognized it's service and like a Old work horse retired it; put it to pasture and keep a faithful stewardship over it.

I own several doubles Parker VH is my top one.over lc Smith Ideal grade..id buy that double in a heartbeat. Sounds like you paid about $400. American. Which is a great price ..Not a Collector piece but its great hunting gun.

Somehow I have missed the name of the import company. I cannot find it in the transcript either.
Here in the States, that gun likely hunted everything from woodcock to whitetail deer.
Does the process work in reverse i,e., can I purchase a gun in US and have it transported to my Dealer in the UK?

Parker factory is two miles from my house there pretty popular here in Connecticut
And don't forget about the hidden fee of your local FFL. Those can range from $20 to $200.
They did mention that.
They said $35 to $75 here.
Seems steep if you ask me, I usually pay from nothing (FFL prefers law enforcement customers) all the way up to $25.
@@JD-tn5lz I hear in parts of New England. It's something like $200+ a gun. One of my locals charges $20, The other one charges like $100 but I hear it's gone to $75. I've heard about some charging, not too far from here, like $50 plus $20 a day storage. Minimum of one day charge. It's all becoming a racket.
@@matthewdeepblueno, you are so very wrong. There is no FFL in “new england” charging $200 for a transfer…there are so many ffl’s that nobody would pay that, its about $25-$35. You can go on gunbroker right now and limit to those states, and see that nobody is charging $200…
The Only $200 fee is for NFA tax for suppressors, SBR’s, AOW, or machine guns…and thats not an FFL fee.

I was pointing out your ridiculous lie that ffl transfers in new england were $200…i said you could go onto gunbroker and see for yourself that is not the case, searching through “all” the ffls who were using the site, you can see that $200 is not being charged…

Can someone tell me why used shotguns are so cheap in the UK? This gun would run $500 in the states simply for being a Parker
Well, if it's looking for a new home, I'm game so send me information. ^~^ A Parker Brothers gun of that era is a wonder to use as you've found much to your surprise.
As for this gun, I think it a candidate for Turnbull Restorations whom can repair the stock and refresh it back to like new condition. ^~^
We Yanks do love a fine Parker…as in a small frame DHE or higher grade.
Just looking of that reminded my of my side by side it was only the Essex make nothing special, but I was out with it one day and pulled the trigger and I could not pull it as to hard so I was pointing it at the ground luckily as it just went off with out me touching the trigger so I handed that into the police to be destroyed.
Do you use an Open Individual Export license or a Standard Individual Export license for shipping from the UK?
We have to apply for each item both for import and export - hence the time it takes. Peter

Hello Johnny from North Carolina. I have the exact same gun that belonged to my Great Grandfather James Pleasants. He always kept several top pointers and setters and in the early 1900's the quail hunting was stellar. The old gun is reflects hard, honest use and has accounted for untold quail, wild turkeys and cotton tail rabbits. The old gun is fully functional mechanically.
I'm not a collector. Hence, I would've consigned this broken down, shot-out classic to the trash. But at the end of the vid, even I felt a twinge of... dunno, affection for the damn thing. And your taking the trouble to find a way to send it "home." It speaks to how certain collectors are better described as caretakers, all good. Hats off, brother.

I find theres something seriously satisfying with shooting all types of shotguns. Especially cheaper ones. Thanks to you J C ive got a serious case of Holtsitus. I always eagerly await your holts auction reviews and love there sealed bid auctions have bought 3 absolute gems from them so far that shoot so well for the money. Perhaps its just me but love turning at the clay with friends and shooting a gun worth couple of hundred quid better than me mate with his 5000 plus gun makes for good banter. Love tgs. And now have a mistress in holts.

Simpson Ltd told me that it would cost a 1500 to 1,000. I looked at their side. It looks cheaper now... But still not this cheap.

I would enjoy that gun here in Maryland. I live on a small farm and have nearby sporting clays, trap, and skeet. I have only one other shotgun A390. So, this would be great to add to my collection and use.
The effort making those plates and sinking them into the stock is probably more work than making a new stock 🤣

@@urgamecshk I've made lots of stuff I was a woodwork teacher at a boys school. One of my lads made a full size octagonal barrel, rubber band gun carving the stock in imitation of one of my gun stocks (good job management never found out 🤣) it was a thing of beauty all hardwood except the trigger assembly which was laminated from MDF and ply. I'm 6'4" so I end up grafting about 1 1/2" to every gun I buy.
Parkers were very popular because of their durability. It's not uncommon to find examples as old as yours that have never been disassembled. This is even more often the case after the marked simplification of the action. That followed their hiring of a real firearms engineer. Unfortunately yours has been disassembled at one time or another. Putting the sleeving together with the broken stock leads me to think that it may have been a victim of the transition from black to smokeless powder and then the move from bulk to dense powder. Parker bought an insurance policy from Lloyds then in case shooters of their guns were injured though they proofed both Damascus and fluid steel barrels to the same pressures. I use my Parkers in goose pits where ejected shells from autoloaders and pumps can be problems. In the field, I prefer light weight English/British or German game guns. I wonder how the export process goes from Germany and Austria.
He missed the fact that guns imported to the USA have to be defaced with an import mark. Which contains who imported it, and city and state of the importer.
Parker,Fox,and Ruger Red Label are the only American doubles of any worth. I would love to have that gun. You could make quite the profit on it here.

Incorrect on the background check and transfer via a US FFL.
The gun is considered an “antique” the US federal government do not even consider it a firearm and it can be transferred directly to a buyer without any fees in the US. It’s harder to buy a can of spray paint than an antique firearm in the US.

I would be proud to own the parker. She's old She's scarred she's been worked hard she's been repaired and still works, a lot like me. I really like the repairs on the stock. I've got a old 16 sxs I think I'll try that on.

As long as the gun is mechanically sound, tight and the barrels are on on-face. Keep it, use it and enjoy it. Yes, it's had some hard knocks, yes, some of those repairs were not idea. Don't be a gun snob, I know it's tough for you Brits, but try. If not, let me know where you send it so I can be there to pick it up.

I had my dad’s LC Smith field grade model and it was in my father-in-laws warehouse where we had stored some of our things when we were moving and the warehouse caught on fire and he had paints thinners and oils stacked next to our things and the gun got so hot the only thing I found was two barrels that had twisted apart and kinda melted like a pan cake and the double triggers were nothing but twisted threads and the lock was really the only thing that didn’t have to much damage except for the paddle lock and safety switche which was also melted out. Thanks fella.

I have a Lanber over and under from 2009 for £85, it has replaced my Browning 725 which was absolute crap and managed to fire both barrels at the same time. I had a 525, a beautiful Miroku which I liked but it didn't like me.
I love the Lanber it is light, easy to swing and in generally a greaat little clay gun.
You know why you love this gun? It's a Parker, one of America's finest firearms and you understand appreciate a firearm beyond its appearance. I would own that shotgun in a heartbeat, because its Parker and it still shoots.
Many of the haters will not like it simply because it's appearance and the fact they have no appreciation or understanding of the finer things in life. You could get that shotgun restored properly of you chose from Turnbull Restorations, and yes it will be done period correct, and you will NOT lose any money on that gun. It will gain it's real value as if it were new, only restoration company that good that I know of. Very much worth a look if you did want to restore it. But that gun has character, still shoots and is a beautiful gun regardless of the mileage. That gun will always tell a story of the previous owner. Good on you for not passing that and that Ithaca Model 37 16 gauge. Proud of you.
Don't send it to America gift it to me I re-enact American 1800s and I'm in the UK it would be a lovely addition to my collection and would be used both for hunting and reenactments

While the history and character of this gun is interesting, I’d completely restock and refinish so I could enjoy the shotgun as it was intended. Don’t shoot me.

Those guns were built by German and Eastern European immigrants (ie continental) for utilitarian purposes first. Unlike England, we did not need the local lord’s permission to hunt game, which was plentiful and many people relied on it for sustenance. Thus hunting in the US is much more associated with working class and rural life than leisure for the affluent
