I will tell you ZSU 23-4’s have an incredibly hard time shooting down even an AH-1W, we had two of them try that, on one our birds in Afghanistan, sire they beat it up some, but the flight of two cobras killed both of the ZSU’s and only one was damaged, sure it had frost sized holes from the belly. Out the top in multiple places, and was missing half of one of the two rotor blades. Also only had one bolt left, intact holding in the transmission, was shaking and smoking. But she made it back to bastion. And that was two focusing fire on one cobra. In an ambush. Specifically designed to try to down our helos, still didn’t work. They aren’t as good as you think, lol. Couldn’t even know lol down something going 170 knots, ahaha. Our XO and det commander who was in the shot up bird. Was really excitable when he got back, he was like the tracers looked fucking baseballs zipping by fast enough you could barely process seeing them.

Regarding the (brief) talk about the G3 not needing tools, a friend of mine served in the Bundeswehr in the late 90s and ended up in the workshop that repairs and maintains guns, vehicles and so on. He had some neat stories, like during basic training (before he was send to the gun maintenance workshop), he was told to treat the G3 very carefully, cause _something something_ high precision engineering _something something_ delicate rifle. One of his first tasks in the workshop was to help repair a G3 that a soldier had fallen on top of, bending the magazine well. The workshop's boss put that gun in a vice, hammered an old wooden board into the magazine well and then used that board as a lever to realign the magazine well by sheer brute force. So much for "delicate rifle" I guess lol.
My friend also told me that operating the G3 for the first time pretty unpleasant. The lever to pull back the bolt needs so much force, when you're not used to it, it apparently feels like you're about to rip your finger off rather than moving that bolt. Still he loved the G3 very much and was quite jealous of comrades from a different barracks, who were handed out a few G3s with wooden furniture.

I love the idea of German MPs issuing tickets to M1s while bleeding out.

to be fair, the hobbits in LotR do seem pretty much shiftless. None of them have assigned duties or a boss yet they can go to the taverns and throw a few back and presumably there is some sort of farthing or ducket being exchanged for those pints. There's a farmer to steal vegetables from, so Merry and Pippin's job is presumably thief, Bilbo and Frodo are just "homeowners" and they go through enormous amounts of food at their 9 meals and no obvious means of support. They none of them would have vast wealth or spoils of war as most have "never left the shire." At some point Longbottom Leaf is distributed to unlikely places but there is no depiction of industry, indeed any organized production of anything in a commercial sense is how they depict the Shire being destroyed in Galadriel's scrying pool. Their whole way of life is supported by unicorn farts.

and yes Bilbo may have come back with spoils of literal war but he previously was already established in Bag End and going through enormous amounts of food and throwing huge parties before he acquired said spoils.

I never even heard of this game before, but it seems like it would be right in the sweet spot for Tex / Dep. It does look like potato quality though, so maybe youtube is still doing the whole render thing? If all else fails I can happily just treat it as a podcast anyway, could listen to these guys ramble forever.

noting there is Gru from Despicable Me but also Groo the Wanderer who is much more fulfilling. Now you must define the verb "to mulch."

Gru's little known cousin is FNU or "first name unknown," which has to be used in university applications for some international applicants who are one name only people, sort of like Madonna.

Not really, TOW’s are cheap as hell and garbage, half the time they go dumb and do nothing, lol. In Iraq and Afghanistan, they made us mount and use more TOW’s as they are phasing them out, and needed them gone, and hellfires actually cost money. So they were like TOW every thing. That you think a 2.75” rocket can’t handle. We’ve used hellfires on two dudes in a fighting position, that hand an AK and RPK, lol. And then they cried about it. We were like well, cheaper than a dead or crippled American, so stuff it, then they just stopped giving us hellfires and only TOWs, making us use them, lol.

Well, this scenario plays out in the late 80s, so TOW wouldn't be that badly outdated as they were in Afghanistan I guess.

@@h.a.9880 I know, and yeah…but they still sucked, even back then. They were just the best of weapon systems that sucked, haha. Now, if you got TOW II’s…those are way better, but just came out not too long ago, had most of their issues fixed, and can air burst down into them. It’s the fanciest and most effective/expensive wire guided missile ever made, but does work way better than the originals.
