Two thoughts: 1) why not just raise the front (closest to house) up, thus avoiding having to cut and install a bunch of firring strips? and 2) did you buy the polycarbonate sheets locally? I have to be honest, even with a gutter the falling rain will block back at you. So, while you'd be avoiding the small amount that is hitting the roof, you're not avoiding everything else. We have a similar situation with a gutter, and it's still just one of those things you have to deal with, unless you build four walls, and at that point, a room. :)

OH No...... you have showed us the best pergola , 5 plus stars pergola, high class with all details.... I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Now you are covered all the creative, handcrafts wood cross lines, talent installations labor that you created on the pergola that has made not long ago.
I would cry the whole month if my pergola being covered with roof like you did on yours. (feeling like after 5 hours makeup for the show.... in the last minute .... i cover my face with the whole face mask , only showing the eyes to dance at the show)

Manufacturers typically recommend a 5-deg (1:12 pitch) for these types of roofs. I went with less since ponding didn't bother me
