Think you for this. I can now scrap my plans of buying a set of Slidebars. I’ll be attaching a roofbox during the winter and bicycle racks the rest of the year. I’d rather live with the hazzle of loading without Slidebars than live with the noise they cause.
Thanks for this review. We never had any problems with the older Thule rack on our old car, but it was noisy at higher speeds. We were considering upgrading for our new car since it was touted as being quieter. I do appreciate pianorod's comment noting that it is different if tied down. But we don't notice noise on the old model unless we are going 60 mph. The new model does not seem worth extra money Thanks for saving us $$$!
Have you used these to transport before the review? I’ve just fitted a set today and there’s no play (wiggle) at all. Wondered if this is what happens after several uses. Thanks for the review :-)
Yes, I made some lokal trips and a longer trip from the Netherlands to Belgie with kayaks. After complain, I received a new set from the thule shop. but the problem, the heavy noise, was still the same. I changed the slidebar for the wingbar.
Thanks for the review. I was planning to buy this one as well (primarily to center the skibox), but this let me to think twice. Probably an aero- or wingbar
I have the same unit which I load a Hobie PA 14 onto. You focus on the wobble and movement. I have no movement or wobble/nois etc once the yak is tied/strapped down. I also don't notice any noise when diving without a load on except for wind once I reach 100km/60mph. Interestingly though is that the weight of the Hobie (aprox 45 kilo/100lb) causes the slide bar to twist, though I have yet to break it :-) They're a good concept but very heavy yaks pose a problem regardless of system.
you have mounted the kayak using straps to the curved kayak holders only that could be one reason why you have so much play I think most people would strap it to the rack as close as possible to the base
Yeah i was wondering the same. I load the kayaks flat, with the straps going under the rack at each side, I wouldn't rely only on the t-track mounting holding it in place. But watching the video, i can't see how that would fix it. It looks like they'd probably still clatter up and down and side to side even with it strapped down to the rack. Be interested to see if anyone's tried it.
I just purchase a Thule slidebar. Even with no load it rattles very loudly when driving along, even above the stereo. For a $650 roof rack the build quality is very poor. Very disappointed.
I was considering this - and this put me right off it. Thanks for the review. It saved me a lot of anguish and disappointment.

Thanks for the review. I was almost going to buy one until I watch this. That's a perfect save from an expensive disappointment.

Thanks, I was almost ready to buy a set but was researching how noisy they are - question answered
Thanks ... I'll give it a swerve. Had been planning to use for kayaks also
Thank you from Mexico :)
Thanks for the useful information! I was planning to buy a slide bar and now probably refuse.

Yes, I used it to transport my kayak. I received a replacement of the slide bar. Same issue on the first transport

Com este video, já mudei de ideias!
Has Thule made any improvements on this?
So far I know NOT. So it's the same as shown in my review

Weirdest test and review. And not a word
