I want to clarify to some folks who are watching at a later time to get informed before the release of s&box. This game is meant to be a SPIRITUAL successor according to the description on the official website. I understand some folks will say this is "Garry's mod 2" and other will say it's entirely different game. Personally I think it's a mix of both in my opinion since this is the closest we'll ever get. Regardless you're entitled to your opinion on the game. I look forward to s&box and am interested to see what will come of this!
Yes as a friend I know who's a VRChat content creator this was one of the many gripes specifically with VRChat. S&box provides the solution which is VR support right out of the box WITH a game engine. Unity is a bit of mess in some cases according to folks but being able to properly play games and also create a "social" styled game within s&box to also play those games too is incredibly solid foundation to make an "alternative" to VRChat.
@@Eridium77 Let's hope that S&box won't have ungodly poor optimization control. People have to much freedom of what they can upload on VRChat. There's a balance to be had imo.
If this is executed right, this could be the perfect mix of an adult Roblox, VRchat and Garry's Mod that everybody has been craving. This could genuinely be a 'perfect' game, if done correctly. Ill hold on getting too excited but i cant lie its really starting to get me excited.
I will REFUSE to buy a game with such an ugly playermodel. It's legit repulsive to me. Like for me it doesn't even matter if this becomes the "roblox" of source 2, if they go with that playermodel as the default option, I will never buy this game.
Damn 2024 release seems incredibly close seeing how early access most S&box stuff seems. I'm also wondering if what Garry is trying to do with S&box is to turn it into a game engine kinda thing? Like Godot, Unity and Unreal? Or simply a Roblox platform? Because what he's saying here seems sortof like a Roblox/Unity hybrid that allows you to either put your game in the S&box platform itself or take it out to sell it on steam. I wonder if they're skewing more towards Roblox or towards a game engine. Because if it is a hybrid seems incredibly cool (Although very hard to make), he might be onto something as to a new way to make game engines. Being able to iterate an idea through a Roblox-Like system to then release it on Steam might make game development much nicer, not to mention much easier to get testers. But I'm struggling to see how that's possible, I know it is, Roblox is basically a game engine already, but Roblox has had decades of development.
I'm talking about at least 2024 like within the year. Not when it hits 2024. The game still has a lot more to go but it makes more sense that it'll get released later in 2024.
2026 is way too far. Most likely what will happen is the following. - Game's developed to a good state where systems and tools are exceptional and ready to go for developers, modders and creators to create games and content with. - Announcement then release of the game - Game gets more updates through the game's release including improvements and updates for the game. Remember s&box is a platform. So majority of the content is completely user and community generated. So as long as facepunch has those creator tools up to snuff for anyone to create what they want and more. Then that'll probably be the best time to release since there will be content already on the platform from before release and also content that other folks and get started on to release on the platform. @@darkidarki1332
I hope they open up self-hosted/decentralized options to interfacing with the engine as well. As important as the ecosystem is, could be harmful in the long run to force people to operate only within the approved ecosystem.
There's other character models too like the hyper realistic models. I made a video called "s&box and it's other playermodels" definitely check that out.
7:00 - I'm really hate terry. If you don't want to use hl assets, just make good own character, not sausage trash. Fun fact: Initially, terry was just a placeholder - a temporary model
I hate the character, it feels out of place, and if there won't be the same freedom as in Garry's Mod, it's not gonna be something for me. I've had enough of microtransactions and all that.
FUCK YOU I'M NOT RESPECTING SHIT. To clarify, I'm not serious about the "FUCK YOU" part, I don't know you enough to hate you and you didn't make those models. But I am serious about the "not respecting shit" part as I hate that argument. If Garry wants to separate it from Gmod, fine. But he has to EARN respect. HIS MODELS ARE SHIT. THEY ARE JUST PLAIN SHIT. HE COULD HAVE CHOSEN SOMETHING BETTER BUT HE CHOSE THOSE FUCKING ABOMINATIONS. I'm not expecting an entire AAA game, but I am expecting what assets ARE in there by default to be at least somewhat decent. Garry could have chosen something less hideous, he could have chosen something more realistic, or made those models entirely stylized instead of having the disturbing realistic textures, but he didn't. He chose those shitty crimes against nature as his mascot, therefore he will be judged on them. A big reason people make content for these kinds of games is the big library of high quality assets they usually come with, so since the assets in there are neither numerous nor high quality, why should I give a shit? Nothing about this shit is new either, we've had games based on user made content like this since at least as far back as Second Life. His product is not unique and therefore will not be treated as such, so he has to give me reasons to go through him instead of skipping the middle man entirely and just making my own game on say, Godot engine. I already have to code, I already have to animate, and I have to make assets that aren't dogshit too since I'm not allowed to port from other games and what is there looks like a Lovecraftian horror replaced the "horror" part with "ugly" and "punchable". Why the fuck should I bother? And before you say "it's not done!" Garry decided to fucking release this information to get hype going, so we're entitled to say "that looks worse than the original version of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie" when it looks worse than the original version of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Not only that but those fucking models aren't a technical issue, they're a core design issue. It's not something that can be fixed as the game gets closer to completion or by having a more advanced engine, again Garry COULD have chosen something better, but he chose THAT and therefore we will judge him on THAT. Yes it can theoretically be modded out, if the game draws in enough people for them to mod it out which a pretty fucking dubious proposition.
There is realistic playermodels within the game. Facepunch has made 2 of them so I'm rather interested how they'll intergrate them within the game when the time comes for it.
@Eridium77 2 questions, is Garry planning to make the game paid or free with paid assets, you know? Like how roblox and robux is. And do you think big mod creators in gmod would have the nerve or time to switch from gmod to s&box and learn how to work with source 2?
Garry hasn't mentioned exactly if the game is going to be free to play or a set price. In terms of assets right now there's a collection of assets facepunch is making so that they're free and readily available once the game officially releases for developers and modders to use. In terms of "paid" assets I'm not sure at the moment as they've talked about it but it's in the air. Otherwise it's still unknown or not "set in stone". In terms of big mod creators moving over from gmod to s&box is gonna be rough and it can depend on 1 of 3 things : The tools, general interest and payment. The biggest factor that would allow those creators to move over to s&box is if there's compensation or in other words payment for them creating their mods. And also the tools they'll be using for creating those mods actually being good and easier to create stuff on the platform. Hope this answers your question. @@scottventure820
They having full control, is gonna mean that S&Box won't have the same content as GMOD does, I hope they will be light on moderating content and not strict.
