I Was Wrong, I'm Sorry, & I Love You
it's been 20 years since i rose & cleared my throat
it's been 10 years since i stood outside the church
it's been 9 years since the ground became the sky
it's been 8 years since i found an alibi
it's been 6 years since the dogs picked up the game
it's been 4 years since i learned to love the pain
it's been 1 year since i stole life from the grave
and over all these years, just three things i've tried to say
i was wrong
i'm sorry
and i love you
i welcome everyone but give 'em nothing when they arrive
or else build a house with no way to come inside
i've learned to hide my tears, learned to hold them deep inside
and then sell my fears just to pick your pockets dry
i was wrong
i'm sorry
and i love you
i have misled you
i have misread you
i've cared too much and not enough in the same breath
you've been my hope
my stretch of rope in life and death
i was wrong
i'm sorry
and i love you
I'm sorry. I was wrong and I love you Shelby! forever!
I think it's pretty clear. He's speaking on behalf of the church, us. All of us. We have been wrong, we've hurt people. We are sorry, World and God. We love you, World and God. In verse 1, he says that he's been saying this the whole time. In verse 2, he gets a little more specific on how we as the church have messed up. The bridge is our confession, repentance, and reaffirmation that we are in need of God. If I'm wrong, I don't care.
Great song!
My first love broke my heart I send this to her and be again
I love this song... Another great offering from Derek... made me cry a little.
Then again, maybe it's because I'm getting older and more mature to realize how powerful those simple words are. That is both in the struggle to say them... and actually do.
Love this. This album is gonna be awesome.
Anyone else wish they had unopened copies of those CDs?
wow that is cool my kids loved it good job Derek
To the church. Derek feels that over the years (since She Must and Shall Go Free) that he's alienated the church from his music and message. This is an attempt to rebuild some bridges he feels have been burned.
How did this not blow up, this video is dope
Amazing! I love the first guy, and I'm no wrong about it ;)
All I can say is wow... Great job D.
Thanks! :) Derek Webb rocks.
Maybe I didn't give a good explanation. He's certainly not apologizing for the truths. He said at the She Must and Shall Go Free concert I went to a few months ago that he still believes every word of that album. He's more talking about how he pushed the boundaries in certain ways that alienated folks.
I'm certain Derek will come out before the record releases and give a WAY better explanation for this than I did.
0:14 that's me. :)
mighty fine
Maybe its just that he realizes I was Wrong, I'm Sorry, and I Love you, are the phrases that have been missing in his life, and he's saying them now.
It was crowdsourced as mentioned. I am in it and I am NOT anything close to being an "actor". I just got a coffee cup, some sticky notes, a Sharpie and a wild hair.
Chris is right, Derek Webb sent out a message to his followers on Tumblr calling for submissions.
We need a list of these actors. I feel I know the young man at 0:37 and 1:11 from a long time ago, and would love to know if it's who I think it is.
Even if he were apologizing for the truth, what would deleting his old music accomplish? How would it help either you or Derek?
Do you think this is how Jesus treats you? "Tommy sinned! I'm out!"
There's me at 0:13 !
I don't know for sure, but I'd guess the videos were crowdsourced, and are not actors.
I'm in at 3:03 :) I would like to know who all these faces are! A couple are somehow familiar...
The girl at 0:59.
Hey, James Williams. That's me at 0:37 and 1:11. What do I win?
Who is he apologizing to? I've been a fan for years but apparently I'm not a big enough fan to know what this is about.
I wish his message was a little more clear. I think I would cry and go delete all his music if he's apologizing for the truth and theology in his songs. I've been ministered and brought to repentance through his music. If he's apologizing for truth then I'm out.
I know they aren't actors. The guy I'm thinking of isn't an actor.
