Heavy
vs1
i have needs
i cannot deny them
i was made to want these things
i will stay if you can supply them
if you can't i'll trade my ring
for a father who loves me enough
to provide what he's made me to love
it's very good you said so yourself
then you put it so high on the shelf
but i can almost taste it
ch
so i try to make light of things i can't deny are so heavy
whose weight is so great that your body is crushed underneath
yet i stand on your grave and i claim i am tall and i'm steady
but tell the truth i'm bound to fall on you
vs2
it is fruit for which i am reaching
it's simple supply and demand
if it's abstinence that you're preaching
then you'll have to slap my hand
and then say that it's best for me
but tonight i just don't believe
there are some things i'll take at your word
but there are bridges i'm willing to burn
once the toll is taken
ch
i have waited long enough
i have waited long enough
ch
woah, he's singing/playing in a confessional booth. heavy.
I love it. Thank you Derek. I'm enjoying the Acoustic versions even more than the Album itself.
Thanks for leading us in prayer, Derek
We need new music Derek!!!!!!
"Derek Webb is fantastic"
Uhh...Yes, he is. That was my point.
"There's a lot of talent out there"
Again, that was my point.
I'll say it again: This guy is the gold frikkin standard.
I like Christians being real about stuff, =]
My problem with some of the comments here is that some people want to limit Webb's talent. I love his music. I'm also glad he doesn't hide behind crap. He says things the way it is. So what if he ends up being a bit of a entertainer? He's probably not into entertaining. My point is, if a doctor does well at being a hear surge and he's a Christian, is he just doing it for the money or because he was called into a life of a heart surgeon? Webb was called to play music.
Your writing is brilliant mate - really strikes a note
Beautiful song
I agree with you both.
You seriously ought to broaden your listening habits. Derek Webb is fantastic. But he's not alone and there's a lot of talent out there. Stay away from the major labels and you'll discover some real gems. :)
Any guitar guru's out there want to tell me what chord it is he's playing at 1:19ish? During the lines "For a father who loves me enough" and "It's very good you said so yourself." I can't for the life of me figure it out - looks like he's got his fingers on strings that are already fretted higher up.
I'll admit, usually the only "christian" music I really pay attention to is Gospel, and only because it so smoothly intertwines with classical. I'll be sure to look those guys up, tho. I do like seeing people with actual talent suceed.
The fact that its an "industry". Worship music was never ment to be an industry for entertainment or profet. At the core, Christian music "should" be about pointing people back to God. But sometimes it becomes more of an entertainment, and a show.
Ouch.
lol as for bubble gum Jesus music...lols
Jesus Christ was never a pop-star, and I think unfortunately that is what a lot of "Christian" music aspires to be. They try to emulate the secular music industry, and end up looking like posers often when they do. If you like Derek Webb, look up Todd Agnew, Rich Mullins, and Jason Upton. They are some of the more authentic singers I have found, in my opinion.
...Why isn't more Christian music:
Less repetitive?
On key?
Featuring people who can actually sing?
Y'know...like this guy is?
Seriously, this guy's like the gold frikkin standard for the "Christian music" genreplex, and he pretty much has to self-promote? What is wrong with your industry?
