The (Very) Basics of Pinterest. And my husband came in halfway through and made a bunch of noise.

Thanks for all of the great info! It sounds like if I have a stand alone shop and an etsy shop, I should be directing pins to my stand alone shop rather than etsy as far as Pinterest in concerned. The stand alone shop is new for me (just got accepted to goimage!). Thanks again for that great info too!

And the second after you stopped “Bob … didn’t you hear me talking / recording?”

I think it was "Dammit, now I have to see if I have to record that whole thing again because you were banging around back there."

Thanks very much for that - though if you don't use the link to the listing then you're not making the most of your "share and save" link..? I started using Pinterest way back when and it was much less convoluted!!

That's true, so you have to decide whether it's worth it or whether your pins do better if you don't let them get hijacked by the Pinterest/etsy connection. It might end up that if you get more traffic because you have better pins that go to sections, you'll get more sales overall and the 4% share and save won't matter that much, You'll have to try things out to see what works best.

I pinned a pin from an Etsy shop and then got a notification from Pinterest that the item price had dropped 19%. Does your method of creating pins yourself have this feature? Or would this only work if you pin the direct link to your Etsy listing? (Or is this covered in your course?) Somehow, Pinterest knows it's a product and not just a regular link.

That’s something new that Pinterest has been doing recently, it’s connected to rich pins, which hates when the link goes directly to a listing that they have in their Etsy catalog. It may or may not stick around, Pinterest changed things all the time.

Have been on pinterest for a month now. I pin and engage daily. I have 36k “views” but am feeling a bit discouraged bc of lack of engagement. My pins aren’t ugly and mostly direct to my blog/website. Is it too early to gauge if my strategy is working or not?

A month is too soon to tell anything if it's a new account. It can take 8-12 months of consistent pinning to get any regular traffic if the account is just starting out. One thing to ask you, though, is what do you mean by "engaging daily." There's no real reason to do any commenting or repinning of other people's content on Pinterest, it isn't social media, so that's not really needed. You might be able to save some time if that's what you're doing!

@@KaraBuntinTutorials I am doing some repinning / saving to boards but not a lot of commenting. It gets discouraging when you see people with 10k followers vs my zero. I get clicks to my website etc but it feels like a big climb to make any progress. I pin my original pins daily also. Thank you again!

Using free social platforms is the best way to do that with a small advertising budget
