I believe she is talking about the LMD law (Ley de Memoria Democratica) as well as other citizenship options all in one group. However they should be addressed separately. I gained citizenship via LMD and my daughter through me. The process can be complicated depending on where you and your parents were born. Citizenship via LMD allows dual citizenship which is an exception to the norm. My experience with my local consulate was at many times frustrating as the staff lacked customer service skills and empathy. The consulate webpage was confusing and definitely not user friendly, I am a native Spanish speaker and even then it was tough. I navigated the process (including getting the DNI) without assistance and paying attorney and other consulting fees .

Thank you Sadife and R&D team. Thank you for offering citizenship by descent as a stand alone service!
If people can qualify for citizenship by descent, they should give it a try.

With Ley de Memoria Histórica and Ley de Memoria Democrática you do not need to live in Spain or even touch Spanish soil once. It takes 1 year and a half. However, the spouce must go to Spain and apply for permanent residence and after 1 year of beign physically present there, they are eligible for citizenship.

If you live in america and your father and grandparents were born in spain but left spain in the 70s, how do you apply for citizenship if you want to move to spain? Also, would we have to give up our American citizenship to get it?

You can apply for citizenship if you can prove you are blood-related to your grandparents. You will have to lie about renouncing your American citizenship so you can have both, just make sure to ONLY use your Spanish passport when in Spain/EU.

How about if the natural Spanish citizen (grandfather) married an American and adopted her children? Does that count towards citizenship? Thank you

A random one, but my mother is eligible for Pakistani 🇵🇰 citizenship by descent. Pros and Cons would be helpful. Their website is very basic as are the forms to apply - almost look fake. 😅

Can i use that as a reason when applying ?
" Oh my grandparents passport and other documentation were confiscated so I can't prove their citizenship but they were from Spain"

Hello Sadife, if parents are naturalized Spaniard, do their adult children become eligible for Spanish citizenship?

A clear exposition but unfortunately there is no mention of the fact that under Art.33 of the Democratic Memory Law descendants of those who fought in the International Brigades against Franco during the Spanish Civil War are also eligible to apply for Spanish citizenship, if they can prove that they have 'worked continuously to spread the memory of their ancestors and defend democracy in Spain'. Furthermore, successful applicants may retain dual nationality. Hopefully Sadife will rectify this omission in another video in the near future.

I though Spanish citizenship is only good with certain countries otherwise it is illegal.
