Hi
I always love seeing Watts drawing and painting, he's my favorite art instructor along with Vilppu and Huston, hope hisonline programs keeps updatiing because I'm subscribed to that and to NMA. How many years have passed since he recorded the lectures for his online program though? he already looks quite different from those.
Why should we learn art anyway there is AI art now, art is dead
@@junoonvlogs1030 well what's point of learning anything because ai will eventually replace everything. That's why I stick to traditional mediums
@@somewiseguy6058 not true.
I love how there's focus on the "messy stage". So many people stop there, judge themselves and their work. You've got to push through that. You'll also learn a lot about yourself as you push through. I've been posting my process to show that messy stage.
The most crucial thing I've learned. You got to practice to the point that you don't care about the outcome.
My drawing is on a good level but my painting is definitely like learning art all over again. I really appreciate this breakdown between the two techniques. It helps a lot.
I really enjoyed seeing these two working and contrasting the results and approaches. Glad you did too!
Currently going through the Proko drawing basics course, hoping to get the confidence to start figure drawing and I would love to learn the Reilly method in the future. Adding this course to my todo-list!
Thanks for being a part of the course! Basics will definitely help you get through those fundamentals so you can know you have the tools to be confident in your next steps of drawing.
Love you showing the two mediums covering the one subject. Perfect instruction. Thank you for posting this.
I've never heard it put that way but it makes perfect sense: drawing is part what you see, part what you know and part what you'd like to see.😮
I could listen and watch Jeff all day. I'm going through his Watts drawing course so I practically do.
Wow!!!!! Sir Jeff's painting just pop out its power in the end! In just a second! Thank you for this demo.
I am always humbled to watch and listen to the master - Jeff Watts! Also Erik and Stan - they are no slouches for sure. Thanks to Stan for putting this video out!
Jeff is a true master. What a delight this was.
Oh man this is so cool. Im gonna rewatch it two more times just to focus on how Jeff and Erik work on the model’s face
This is so true. I kept losing and finding my drawing lines, likeness and colors when I tried traditional oil painting for the first time however it was worth it. Deeply satisfying.
I can't get enough of Jeff
I love learning about the fundamental techniques that become the skills needed to solve a painting. Please post more how to fundamental tools videos
excellent video, packed with information and easy to watch . Thank you!
i feel like that's the biggest problem about getting good at art.Finding your workflow and polishing up to a point where you know what you're doing every step of the way.I started doing digital art and trying to polish my drawings is nightmare,no idea what to go for but i'm on my way to learning this medium to a place where i enjoy it as much as traditional.
that was nothing short of magical
Your model is a great teacher too!
Gotta LOVE traditional mediums.
Brilliant demonstration ❤
I am watercolor artist too. I found out this is very helpful video. ❤❤❤
Very good way of a demonstration. A drawing and a painting. Very nicely done and something I will implement with in my studio day 👍
Today is my first time watching and a new subscriber 🥰 I hope you become my master one day
Listening to Stan, Jeff, and Erik is just always so enjoyable. Their videos make me feel more capable afterwards
Yes!
loved it proko
In this 40min video i learned more about art and craftsmanship than i have had learned from 2 years of studying art in Dokuz Eylul Fine Arts Faculty. Art education in countries like Turkey is practically useless and i am glad channels like Proko exists so we can actually learn smt.
Fuckin badass. Jeff and the atelier have made me start trying traditional in the last few weeks and i’m loving it. So true what he’s saying about traditional feeding into digital: drawing & painting traditionally really forces you to think ahead and pay more attention, therefore learning a lot more each session than I would with digital. I’d say do both.
thank you so much for uploading this!
This was awesome! So much good info.
This was really useful and interesting! Thanks!
Thank you. Very interesting lesson 🥰🥰🥰
This is great
took me awhile to realize that was a photo. I was like those people behind that man is really still lmao but love the video! very informative.
They were all REALLY focused on the artists lol
😂 I wouldn't have realised if it weren't for your comment
Um...no...Firstly, at the beginning of the video you see the crowd and model moving, only in later shots they've shown a still image. This is also quite obvious by the two differing perspectives of two pieces.
The model is Travis Wilson, who was a student at Watts and has now become an Instructor. He is a fantastic artist with a bright future 👍🏻
Wow they really know their stuff citing authors, books, painters, techniques… it’s definitely showing on their work
not sure if i will offened someone but i think painting is just the better version of drawing. It makes sense to draw and then paint. Its a level up. But you can still make crazy good thing with drawings ofc. And combining these 2 is godlike
**color pencils have entered the chat**

I always wonder why I never seem to see Proko use Reilly method on his demonstrations considering he came from a school focused on Reilly? or he does and it's just I didn't notice it?
From what I've studied from him he only does loomis. It's an interesting question since the Andrew Loomis method is really just a neutered Reilly method.
@@Ransome1690 I'd say only for the head, his Figure Drawing looks way more like Vilppu, and anatomy is Gottfried Bammes + Goldfinger I'd say, never seen him do Loomis mannquins.
Only realized halfway through it was a photo of the model
Wonderful to hear you're teaching the Reilly rhythm method.
* Does this course include any head anatomy?
* Do you have a website with what is & isn't included, including any additional samples?
* Does the Reilly rhythm include the elusive figure or... just the head (front, side, quarter, views)?
* Is the course available outside of Proko store?
...
Oddly, Stan/Proko, did NOT include the head in his anatomy course (which is also incomplete - yup, waiting years & some lessons are still missing material).
...
I said oddly because, it's weird the head wasn't included. I'm sure a Iot of folks, assumed the head would be included. I know I did before reading the fine print (so to speak).
...
Can you imagine buying a artist's anatomy book & it didn't include the head?!?
...
I liken the head not being included, in a artist anatomy course (video, book or otherwise), to being a kid & getting a GI Joe action figure, with all the guns, body armor & helmet but, no head.
...
Craziness!
Hi John, if you check out proko.com/watts you'll be able to see all the lessons in the course and the topics they cover. I hope that helps!
are there any free resources from Erik or Watts?

Bro, Asmongold, no way.
Omg I can’t handle that mess of painting
✍If you want ✍ to be a ✍ painter, ✍ you ✍ need ✍ to ✍ paint. ✍ Understood ✍
just saying. is aspiring to be an artist basically useless because of AI? I mean only OG art will stay right? not digital
Only time will tell for now. AI art is legally troubling and has a real artificial look to it, but it could be the choice for most companies and people who want art cuz its almost free. However, the human aspect to having people draw could be what keeps AI away. Kinda like how Vinyl records are still relevent despite their age.
Not really, AI art is near useless for concept art, comics, and animation. It's mostly affecting illustration, but even then human artists still give better results. However some clients don't care about "better", they just want "good enough", so commission sales will be affected.
@@Lessulie1 AI art steals artists' works, but I completely disagree about being "near useless". It's already being used for concept art, design, thumbnails, comics, and (soon) animation doing in-betweens and generating complete animation based on key frames. Companies will always pick cheaper and good enough. An AI never takes sick days and never complains and is significantly cheaper. Serious advantages over flesh-and-blood. It's advancing so quickly that it will put most animators, artists, and designers out of business. It's going to replace many people doing accounting, marketing, and many other jobs (AI similar to Chat GPT). In the near future, unless you're at the top of the field, you can easily be replaced with AI (plumbers and other "blue collar" trades will have more time)
@@asimian8500 it's true that AI is being used for menial work (in in-between frames has been a thing for years) in companies. Even I can't really tell the extent of its influence that clearly. All I'm saying is, with the AI's current implementation (coming fro a computer science grad who's also a self taught artist), their quality of work is nowhere close to the quality of humans. This is especially true for idea generation; current AI doesn't have the ability to think critically and reason. It's like a really bad google search; it amalgamates a bunch of things it thinks you want without really understanding anything. Of course, this may be enough for some types of work, and sadly some jobs will be replaced. But I think to achieve good results, artists need the ability to think critically and come up with good ideas that fit the client's needs, and also address feedback. That's something that AI is still far from, so all I'm saying is, if you're serious about art and want to strive to become the best, not just some "good enough" artist who can create pretty pictures, then AI shouldn't be (much) of a worry....for now lol.
@@asimian8500 i want to be an artist, backup job computerscienetist, which i guess is being replaced as well lol. what else is there that's safe
Wish Jeff wouldn't talk so much. Would be nice if Erik was given some time to explain his process too
We'll have some free videos with Erik on his process coming up soon.

Dead to you with that attitude.
@@Hadesthief life is dead...
life is dead..
You can find a million reasons NOT to do something. AI is just the one that people are blaming for why they don't make things currently.
There've always been other artists who make work "better", "faster" or for cheaper than you. AI is just another thing like that.
Make art because you want to share your vision. For the joy of making something. Or just for fun. It's not all doom and gloom just because there's another bit of competition out there.
Make art! It's a good time!
Beautiful video. Thank you proko
